DH and I

I've name changed for this Grin

I've recently noticed an increase in the incorrect usage of "and I" on mumsnet.
To know which one to use, always take the other person out of the sentence and see if it makes sense.

DH and me went to the shops = Me went to the shops. Wrong.
DH and I went to the shops = I went to the shops. Right.

I bought some cake for DH and I = I bought some cake for I. Wrong.
I bought some cake for DH and me = I bought some cake for me. Right!

My 8 year old is currently learning this at school so I thought I'd share.

Sorry. As you were.

DH and I

Oh God, it’s so annoying! My boss was terrible for this and I’d just cringe for her. She’d say things like ‘can you send the emails to Bob and I’ 😡😡😡

PixelatedLunchbox · 03/06/2021 22:16

"I bought some cake for DH and I = I bought some cake for I. Wrong.
I bought some cake for DH and me = I bought some cake for me. Right!"

Bare with me: but should it of bean "DH and myself" Grin

JSL52 · 03/06/2021 22:18

Oh god my sister does this all the time, I think it makes her feel 'posh'.

OnlyToWin · 03/06/2021 22:50

Can anyone borrow me a book on grammar so I can get teached more about it?

Lysianthus · 03/06/2021 22:57

This is brilliant.

SantaSue · 03/06/2021 22:59

Added apostrophes are the worst, like "It's DH and I's anniversary next week".
Just no! It does not make you sound posh!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 03/06/2021 23:12

that will learn them!

RedRec · 03/06/2021 23:23

Agree with you, OP.
I discreetly rubbed out a rogue apostrophe on a pub chalk board last week.

YouLookSoCool · 03/06/2021 23:38

That's very helpfull and I've saved the screenshot so I don't loose it.

YouLookSoCool · 03/06/2021 23:39

@JSL52

Definately 😬
I think you mean defiantly
Checkingout811 · 03/06/2021 23:41

@OnlyToWin I don’t have no books on it but I’ll learn you?
