Has anyone ever won a prize on the postcode lottery?

Apparently postcodes are selected via random draws using software which has been certified by a Gambling Commision - approved testing house.
It just doesn't feel transparent enough for me - what does anyone else think?

I don't do it but I have a friend who won a couple of thousand.

Beccatheboo · 03/06/2021 13:16

Just won my second tenner. Won on my first draw and then nothing for ages.

ilovebagpuss · 03/06/2021 13:17

I’ve won two tenners Grin I think I’m going to stop and do the lotto occasionally

LepusLepus · 03/06/2021 13:25

A tenner is nothing like the 30grand they keep shouting about though is it - though I'm pleased you had a win!

And what about the £150000.00 prizes they keep advertising?

I've seen a couple of ads this morning and I know for a fact that one of the 'winners' who 'won' this amount is an actress.

It just seems a bit 'off' to me.

A few small amounts and my Mum and 6 neighbours won £30,000 each one double that

FelicityPike · 03/06/2021 13:33

My cousin won £30,000.
People in a nearby village each won about £30k too.

MrsJackRackham · 03/06/2021 13:34

I know someone who one £65k a few years ago and my friend won £1k last week.

Akire · 03/06/2021 13:34

To be fair if I won £30k the very last thing I would be doing would be to advertise it or get in the local press. I’ve won 8x£10 over last donkey years.

Horehound · 03/06/2021 13:42

Yes we won £1k! Actually annoying because I cancelled my ticket the month before so we'd have won £2k if i let it run one more month!!

chesirecat99 · 03/06/2021 13:43

I haven't but my postcode won the top prize. The top prize was just over £500k divided between all the ticket holders.

BasicallyBookish · 03/06/2021 13:44

Some people in our town won. I don’t know any of the winners but my DM does.

Are you suggesting it's a con?

JorisBonson · 03/06/2021 13:49

A hairy bikers cookbook 🤦🏻‍♀️

HelloCanYouHearMe · 03/06/2021 13:52

I've won a tenner and a few books.

A friend purchased a ticket but had done so after the cut off for the next draw... Yup, his postcode was chosen and he missed out on over 100k

No, I just think it's the lack of transparency as to how the postcodes are selected. Though I suppose it's the same with the 1001 charity lotteries that we're bombarded with now.

I'm really pleased to hear from everyone who has won prizes. Congratulations all. It does give me more faith in it.

I have won ten pounds quite a few times, but nothing more.

PurpleSunrise · 03/06/2021 14:00

Eh, how would you think they could be more fairly selected than using a software which selects them randomly?

For everyone else, do you just sign up to the emails or do you have to pay for tickets each week?

Roselilly36 · 03/06/2021 14:01

Lots of £10 & £20’s, still waiting for that elusive big win!

Choccyp1g · 03/06/2021 14:01

I won £10 and another time a choice from a list of books worth about £20 each

Alfiemoon1 · 03/06/2021 14:01

I’ve won a few £10 or £20 friends won £4K

BarbaraofSeville · 03/06/2021 14:45

About half a dozen people in a street in my city won a big prize a few years ago, about £200k each I believe. Was in the local papers.

I think it's rather more that I'm a visual kind of person. So watching the National lottery balls roll out on a Saturday night was real iyswim.

A random software draw not so much - not for me anyway.

But thank you everyone, I think you have all, more than any of the postcode ads, have convinced me.

Enjoy your winnings.

I used to do it. I was AB1 1 and AB1 2 won, which was metres from me and where I worked. They each won £3,000 and two people won much more - can’t remember how much but it was 6 figures I think? I won a couple of £10.

I stopped doing it when I need to cut back on spending, I would consider doing it again but feel my postcode area has had it luck!

lilyboleyn · 03/06/2021 15:22

I got an email today saying I’d won a prize. It linked to about 10 options (all pound-shop type shite) and you have to choose one, which they’ll then post to you for free. 🙄
