Apparently, they're reopening as a coffee bar, no proper meals. I'll go somewhere else. Angry

I'm not sure how they've lost a customer. If they arent serving what you want they arent asking you to be a customer.

PurpleDaisies · 02/06/2021 12:28

Maybe they’ll attract different customers.

Nospringchickendipper · 02/06/2021 12:29

Hopefully the small independent cafes will benefit from your custom.
They probably need it more than Sainsbury’s

PintOfBovril · 02/06/2021 12:33

Well, you'll have to go elsewhere if you want a meal..... Because they won't be doing them there.

This isn't true of all Sainsbury's Café's - I think ours is opening as a Carluccio's partnership.

But then our Sainsbury's has a Starbucks, so it'd be a bit bizarre for them to reopen as a coffee shop...

Rummikub · 02/06/2021 12:41

I love Sainsburys cafe meals. They used to reserve me a meal so I could have it before my commute.
Hopefully that not happening everywhere.

LadyVymes · 02/06/2021 12:47

I used to love the brunch. Basically a full English with chips. Then they decided to not cook the mushrooms on the hot plate but to half microwave them so they weren’t cooked. I moved to Australia in disgust.

Branleuse · 02/06/2021 12:47

is that a sainsburies thing or just your branch?

EachandEveryone · 02/06/2021 12:48

I’m sat In Morrissons now and the menu has been slimmed right down. No small breakfasts or anything.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 02/06/2021 13:00

I can feel the CEO quaking in his boots as he reads this.

Well yes, because they dont offer what you want. So its entirely reasonable.
smallandimperfectlyformed · 02/06/2021 13:06

Ours reopened like this in September, basically sandwiches and coffees. Then shut in November I think and is now due to reopen on June 21st - hopefully that will be a full menu. I am lucky, I live in a very busy city with lots of options to eat out but some people don't and also some small businesses are horrible! I don't know where the op lives or anything about her but some small cafes etc have very limited menus and/or poor disabled access.

Bluntness100 · 02/06/2021 13:06

Um ok well if they don’t sell what you wish that would be the logical conclusion

[confusion]

IntermittentParps · 02/06/2021 13:09

Why are people being such twats to the OP?
Consumer power is how businesses succeed or don't.
Sure, one person on MN saying they won't be going back isn't much; but it's quite possible that many other customers might feel the same.

😂 comment of the day right there
Letsallscreamatthesistene · 02/06/2021 13:13

One person has been a twat as far as I can see. The OP hasnt given any context in the post. Just seems a bit angry that something she/he wants isnt offered anymore, which is fair but its also fair to then go elsewhere. I dont think there will be a load subsequant posters in outrage.

If the OPs social circle revolved around going to the sainsburys cafe and there is no alternative I think it'd be a bit different .

Have they got rid of the Flying Start? Shock
IliveonCoffee · 02/06/2021 13:15

Well as long as its a proper coffee bar and not a surly server with packaged sandwiches, stale cakes and buttons labeled 'latte', 'cappuccino' and 'mocha'

I've assume they've done it because the cafe isn't that profitable or popular - even if its busy, they'd likely want to attract people to go on top of their weekly shop.

Its a shame though, its nice to have a cheap and cheerful option for a proper meal.

IntermittentParps · 02/06/2021 13:24

There are multiple posters basically saying 'So what?'/'Who cares?'/'The CEO is quaking in his boots'. Just being sarky and dismissive. Maybe the OP wanted a bit of a chat about it? I was under the impression that's what generally happens on MN threads.

It’s more likely that Sainsbury’s have put a lot of analysis in to the spending habits of their customers and deduced that turning this particular cafe in to a coffee shop would be good commercial decision
Comefromaway · 02/06/2021 13:32

Our local Sainsbury's was full of people like me having a breakfast/brunch or people with kids eating a plate of chips.

Tesco tried the coffee bar thing. It didn't work and it closed.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 02/06/2021 13:35

The one I frequented before last year turned into an Argos.

Sainsburys cafe here is diabolical. I had a lasagne, it was the cheapest microwave slop you could imagine. I would be delighted if they changed.
