Apparently, they're reopening as a coffee bar, no proper meals. I'll go somewhere else.

The one I frequented before last year turned into an Argos.

We are lucky. Argos is downstairs and cafe is upstairs. My family used the cafe a lot pre covid. I'd meet ds there after school and buy him chips whilst I had a drink and a cake. Or we'd meet the in laws for breakfast/brunch. Or sometimes the kids would meet their friends there.

You’re allowed to be a bit disappointed OP. I liked the Sainsbury’s cafe local to me too. Hope you’re able to find a suitable alternative nearby.

I hope they don't do that everywhere, as we always stop for a meal, and wouldn't stop just for coffee, so I see where you are coming from.

Ours was rubbish, long wait and mediocre food at best in an over air conditioned space.

I dunno how I feel about that. DD (then 2) and I used to have a Sainsbury's lunch together after nursery once a week. A lot of the hot food options were really dire imo, but it served a kind of social function for mums/CMs with young kids, pensioners having rounds of tea after shopping and a few crabby bus drivers from the local depot. I once left DD for 30 seconds to go get a spoon from the counter and found her reciting Cat in the Hat to a random passing granny .

We already have an Argos so I doubt they'll shove a second one in there. Hmm.

Maybe proper meals weren't popular, and your custom wasn't enough to make profit.

The last time I went to a Sainsbury's cafe and ordered food was about 14 years ago. I ordered a free-range omelet with salad and was served something akin to a rubber dog toy...........the omelet was microwaved from frozen..........yuk!!!

I assume it's cheaper to offer cake and coffee. Profit margins are higher. Question will be if theres enough demand for it.

However, the OP is allowed to be disappointed by the change and she’s allowed to discuss it without being the subject of digs.

Never been in a Sainsbury's cafe but the cafe in Tesco near me is Fab, just saying.

I’m not sure, you know? I’d say over half the menu was microwaved from frozen, and of the rest a lot of options were paninis and similar.

Our Sainsbury’s serves toasted sandwiches panini’s & delicious toasted tea cakes. No main meals.

I hope ours stays the same when it reopens. It always has people in and I often take the dc after swimming lessons.
The Asda by my parents closed their cafe and now it’s a Costa, it’s such a shame as it was a. cheap place for families and elderly people to have something to eat and Asda cafe also did the free meals for kids durinn holidays.

Mine isn’t reopening until the end of June. Hopefully as it was before as we’ve used it for 20 years and have missed seeing the staff.

And no, there aren't any small independent cafés in this area. There are a McDonald's and a Caffè Nero. The Sainsbury's café was somewhere to get lovely healthy meals, now we're left with nowhere.

I know how you feel, we don’t even have McDonalds(closed years ago) or a Cafe Nero. We have a couple of takeaway type places and a Wetherspoons and Costa(but it closes early. That’s in a decent sized town.

Oh no! Hope ours doesn't go the same way.
Bit of a digress but our Asda cafe has gone rubbish since they reopened. Was so disappointed.
