Are their queues everywhere or is it pleasantly quite quiet?

Don’t think I’ve ever read the word ‘rammed’ so often!

Sanguinesuzy · 03/06/2021 13:00

I live near a local beauty spot in the north west but not actually that well known even to locals. Since the first lockdown there are constantly multiple cars blocking the narrow windy roads, parking in passing areas, double parking, barbecues in an area that was absolutely ravaged by peat fires 3 years ago, people wandering in the middle of the road oblivious to traffic, litter, condoms Shock

I live in Kent and it seems quiet everywhere
They all went to The West Country

Also in Kent/Sussex. Only busy ish. Have managed to do all we wanted and not .any crowds. Fair number of people on the beach but very well spaced. Queue for the cafes only.

SymphonyofShadows · 03/06/2021 13:22

Conwy. Rebooked from last year. We are staying in a rental but here to visit family. Drove through Llandudno Monday and it was totally heaving. No distancing whatsoever on the beach, pier or in queues. Every eating place everywhere is fully booked. Luckily we’ve had bookings, but people are being turned away in droves. It’s got slightly less busy as the week has progressed though. Won’t be taking the A55 back in the morning.

AledsiPad · 03/06/2021 13:26

We live near Portsmouth, which isn’t a typical destination IMO but we do get tourists as we have beaches etc.

It’s fucking rammed! We’re hiding at home.

In Northumberland and its fine, been to berwick and were able book meals and have drinks. Beach quiet but it was v windy! Alnwick garden was great, was only allowing 50% capacity in. Queued for barter books, parked just off high Street easily. We are at a holiday park and it's close to full occupancy but only 50% spaces for entertainment and activities which is causing a stink. Currently on the lawn beside our caravan having a bbq and have plenty of space.

CallmeHendricks · 03/06/2021 13:42

What are we supposed to do though? We can't fly abroad to the usual places, so the only thing left is to take a break in the UK. Or stay at home, but we're all sick to death of that.

Didiplanthis · 03/06/2021 13:46

I wonder if center parcs are varied ? We are at one and it is quieter than usual. There are definitely groups of lodges that haven't been made available as its been fully booked out for weeks and there are quite a few empty ones so not at full capacity. Everything needs to be pre booked and is booked up but the restaurants are very spaced out and not crammed in like usual. The swimming pool and changing areas are far less crowded and actually pleasant to use. I'm really enjoying the slower pace, there are a few busy areas but on the whole it is quieter and less frantic than usual.

I guess the secret is to look for places which normally get a lot of foreign visitors so have spare capacity, or places like Northumbria and the wilder stretches of Scotland which are big enough to soak up additional demand.

Rainbowsew · 03/06/2021 13:55

Cornwall was horrendous on the roads and some beaches but other beaches and the museum we went to was quiet, they ran out of fish and chips on bank holiday Monday!

ilovebagpuss · 03/06/2021 14:02

We went to South Wales it was quiet where we stayed but the obvious spots like Saundersfoot and Tenby were very busy. Nothing was stationary though and it wasn’t unbearable.
Pubs and restaurants were busy so we booked ahead we heard a lot were struggling to find staff.
I live in a popular little town and it’s a bit busier than usual but not unpleasant. I didn’t see any horror stories everyone was friendly especially the locals it was a very nice break.

LaurieFairyCake · 03/06/2021 20:30

There are 120,000 extra visitors in Cornwall Grin

Some places busy - Mawgan Porth was really busy on Monday but other beaches I've done this week have been lovely

Wadebridge was busy today - went and did a bit of shopping - bought a great wet suit

The roads are going to be AWFUL back to London tomorrow

SayHelloJamieLee · 04/06/2021 08:37

Wondering whether to buy a wetsuit. Do they make a big difference?

Sorry to butt in - they made my two much happier to stay in chilly water. Definitely worth it.
