If you have gone away for a uk half term holiday, how busy is it where you are?

Are their queues everywhere or is it pleasantly quite quiet?

@AliMonkey

We are on holiday in Kent. Was busy but not completely rammed at the weekend, now plenty of quiet spots as long as you avoid the most touristy places such as Canterbury (and even that was busy rather than lengthy queues).
I live in Kent and in a very touristy, pretty village. It hasn't been too bad so far.

I hope that Canterbury doesn't get too busy. People were asked to stay away on our local news yesterday as they are a hot spot for the Indian variant.

Thefaceofboe · 02/06/2021 10:34

I haven’t gone away but the traffic in Bristol is insane. I had an appointment yesterday 7miles away and took me 45 minutes of queueing behind caravans and cars with bike racks Grin

Crunchymum · 02/06/2021 10:40

Kent coast.

Monday was insane (and unpleasant to be honest) but we've found a less busy beach and done dome coastal walks etc.

I managed to book a few restaurants before we came but there is no way we'd have got in anywhere as a "walk-in"

Seems to be day trippers more than people away (we are here for the full week)

It works. But not well enough to stop the Indian Variant.
It looks as if the Delta variant (new name for Indian variant) may be more transmissible, but less serious. The vaccines have been very good at stopping serious illness and hospitalisation, which is the crux of the issue. But why let that get in the way of making snippy posts about people going places?
UmamiMammy · 02/06/2021 10:44

We are on holiday in a quiet part of Pembrokeshire, we are deliberately avoiding the busy resorts of Tenby and Saundersfoot. There is a lot of traffic on the roads, we went to Oakwood theme park yesterday and it was very busy there.

Onceuponatime1818 · 02/06/2021 10:47

Bournmouth is rammed!’ But lush

DelBocaVista · 02/06/2021 10:50

We've come to north Norfolk and it's heaving - queues everywhere.
The weather is gorgeous though

UserAtRandom · 02/06/2021 11:04

My parents live in coastal Dorset. We were there at the weekend. The traffic was absolutely awful - it (for example) took 10 minutes just to turn off into the main road from where they lived. The roads to get there were jam packed as well.

It's always like this in holiday season though; not sure it was any worse than normal.

@NannyAndJohn

You'd have thought people would be more sensible now that we're in the Third Wave.

At least they'll have some nice memories to see them through the next lockdown.

I've seen you on a few other threads saying this. What are you going to do when this is all over and you have nothing to be so negative about? You do seem to enjoy jumping into threads to spread a bit of doom.

Very.

Impatientwino · 02/06/2021 11:49

We are at Bainland Country Park (lodges) and although it's apparently full it's lovely and quiet. Came to the beach today at Anderby Creek in Lincolnshire and it is quiet and so beautiful!

Kids are having such a wonderful time - it's so nice to see them playing and enjoying!

Live next to Stonehenge. Car park has been full everyday. A303 is horrendous but then usually is. Harder to book a pub lunch.

Floralnomad · 02/06/2021 11:57

One of my sisters lives on the Kent coast and she said ‘dont bother’ when I muted the idea of taking my dog for a paddle . I shall wait for next week when the schools are back .

limefizz · 02/06/2021 12:05

South coast was horrendous yesterday. Was a relief to be able to leave.

celiamary · 02/06/2021 12:08

A few places in Swanage, difficult to get past Wareham, plenty of room at Norden carpark . Railway and Corfe Castle in walking distance.

SummerWillow · 02/06/2021 12:44

Scottish island - lovely and empty! Journey here was horrific though

At least there might be a chance of some hospitality venues staying in business.

I really think some people just want us to stay in perpetual lockdown.

lljkk · 03/06/2021 03:04

I am enjoying the completely opposite things people are saying about Cornwall.

I'm willing to bet nowhere is as busy as 'normal' for May half-term week.

I was in Minsmere area yesterday. Plenty of people about but not "crowded". Only horrendous traffic I saw en route was in well-known commuter hotspots.

Damnloginpopup · 03/06/2021 05:14

Beach has been really busy at Lowestoft. The river from beccles to geldeston was filled with paddleboarders and lots of kayakers (never seen it like this before) parking was tricky in beccles and the lock Inn had around 200 people outside: a car show at thurton was heaving and Lowestoft in general is busy. It's been a fantastic bank holiday weekend and half term so far and people are making the most of it.

zoemum2006 · 03/06/2021 06:01

Alton Towers was fantastic on Sunday. We got on 14 rides!

Blackpool Pleasure Beach on Tuesday was horrific. We left at noon without going on one ride - it was rammed and there was zero social distancing. It felt awful.

Silkiecats · 03/06/2021 06:27

We went to Norfolk but just for the day - first place was very busy so drove on a few miles to a thatched cottage pub by the river and not too bad at all, could get a table outside and well spaced out. Then went canoeing and just people booked so fine. Traffic was fine both ways but we weren't at the coast.

vickyq1983 · 03/06/2021 06:29

We've been to visit my husbands family in Devon and the roads were rammed. As were the beaches, touristy areas. Busier than a normal non pandemic half term.

Endofether · 03/06/2021 06:32

@TheChosenTwo

It’s strange here (Cornwall), the beach is quiet but the roads are rammed, restaurants all booked up, streets are busy. I just expected the beach to be much busier considering the amount of people that are around!
I’m in Cornwall and the beaches are rammed . Hopefully people will be off again soon
Jumpingintosummer · 03/06/2021 06:56

West coast of Scotland here and beach as crowded as any holiday weekend. Lots of tourists in town and our local restaurant/beer garden is back to having a two tier reservations system for locals and tourists. They reserve 30% capacity until 48hrs before for locals.

alloalloallo · 03/06/2021 07:07

I live on the Isle of Wight and it’s much busier here than it usually is for May half term week

Traffic is horrendous.

Dunno what the beaches are like during the day, but still really busy when I go down to walk the dog in the evenings.
