Are their queues everywhere or is it pleasantly quite quiet?

Somerset-
Clary’s village was busy at the weekend but quiet when it got hotter. The river areas have been busy with lots of sups and kayaks. It’s nice.

Devon - busy in touristy bits (nice beach off an A road with parking and cafe ran out of spaces by 1.00) but fine the day after when we used a top of cliff car park that is down several lanes and walked a mile to the beach.

The issue is that people are parking in the passing places. Especially on the A road, which creates queues and makes visibility very poor. As a lifelong city dweller, I know not to do this and would head home if I couldn’t find an alternative parking spot.

@NannyAndJohn

You'd have thought people would be more sensible now that we're in the Third Wave.

At least they'll have some nice memories to see them through the next lockdown.

Oh FFS! It’s been well documented that sitting on a beach does not increase your chance of catching Covid. Even the pack beach situations during lockdown last year have been scrutinised by scientists who’ve said in hindsight it was fine. And I’m fairly sure you are not going to catch Covid sitting in their car in a traffic jam.

News about a potential third wave only started coming out about 2-3 days ago. (And even that possibility has been acknowledged as being very different to the first and second waves due to the fact that nearly 80% of British adults have now had at least one vaccination.) Should the people already on holiday have just come straight back home on hearing the news that we might be entering a third wave part way through their holiday?

South Wales. We've mostly chosen quite places to go to as we like walks and nature rather than busy places anyway. But we did brave Barry Island which was the busiest I have ever seen any place ever. We had to queue for over half an hour to get into the station and on the train back 😂 thankfully we were happy to walk to the quieter bit of beach so it was a really lovely day,but oh my gosh I have genuinely never seen that many people in one place before!!

Some women think being single is a fate worse than death
I've loved being single at different points in my life , including now as a single parent .
I don't care if I don't meet anyone when dd grows up, I'm going on an old person's gap year then ! ( presuming we will be allowed to travel by then haha )

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 03/06/2021 08:26

Ds not dd . There's no dd !

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 03/06/2021 08:27

Omg wrong thread !

I live in Norfolk and the roads were gridlocked from Friday to Sunday, at which point I got in the car and buggered off to v rural Scotland. It's exceedingly quiet here but I'm in the middle of nowhere. Friends in Norfolk confirm that it has remained extremely busy at home.

HollyHocks13 · 03/06/2021 08:33

I'm in Devon and it's rammed. I've never seen the seaside towns so busy. We popped to a local town the other day to walk the dog on the beach and despite driving round for half a hour couldn't find a single place to park so we just went home!

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 03/06/2021 08:40

Northumberland coast. It’s not that bad, same level of busy as a normal half term that turned out sunny.

oprahwindfuryy · 03/06/2021 08:43

North Wales for the bank hols. Was absolutely horrible. Usually 3/4 hours drive. Was 5.5 on Saturday early a:m

You miserable so and so, dear lord Hmm

Zenithbear · 03/06/2021 08:47

At least half of the people we know have been away over the last week at some point. The weather is great at last so people are making the most of it. We were east coast until yesterday and it was pretty busy. Beaches were huge so not looking packed.

I'm expecting "the Billy no mates furlough make lock down last forever" varient to pop up any second to fuck up everyone's lives up yet again.

JedRambosteen · 03/06/2021 08:50

We’re in the Lake District near Windermere. It was rammed at the weekend. It is marginally quieter now the bank holiday weekenders have left but there are queues everywhere and we are avoiding the packed restaurants and cafes. We’ve had our first vaccines but they’re only 33% effective against the new variant and no one is social distancing properly here.

BertieBob · 03/06/2021 08:54

I went to visit family in Bridlington and I swear it was the busiest I've known it. Everywhere was rammed.

trevthecat · 03/06/2021 08:59

Blackpool was insane. I tried to drive from home to supermarket, usually about 5 mins. Took me 40. We have come away to Edinburgh and it's busy here but not mental. The locals ha e said it's quiet actually

Turmerictolly · 03/06/2021 09:01

In North Norfolk - Wells-next-Sea was rammed yesterday. All pubs had signs saying fully booked. We drove out to other coastal places which were also busy but a bit more room to breathe.

We tried going to Wells a couple of years ago at ht and it was the same story. We couldnt even park so ended up driving somewhere else.

Georgieporgie29 · 03/06/2021 09:20

Blackpool was crazy busy on Tuesday. The queue for McDonald’s was insane!

poppym12 · 03/06/2021 09:22

Somerset coast here. Main beach and town very busy. Good to see people enjoying the sunshine and outdoor space. Not great that I can't drive anywhere at the moment as my driveway is off the beach parking area so it would take ages to get back. Fortunately I can walk everywhere I need to go at the moment.

West Wittering chocca despite car park pre-booking

We are just on our way home from a few days in Dorset.

Managed to do loads of tourist bits but found it difficult to get in anywhere for dinner. Everywhere was fully booked. Made getting lunch a bit more difficult too.

Traffic and roads haven't been too bad either. Which considering the amazing weather we've had, is quite surprising!

We're a few miles along the coast and it's so far quite quiet.

garlictwist · 03/06/2021 11:56

Just got back from the Cheviots - very quiet but it usually is there. I had half decided to go to the Lakes and visit my parents who live there but I knew it would be hell on earth so avoided it.
