Are their queues everywhere or is it pleasantly quite quiet?

@CaptainCorelli

Went to London yesterday for a day trip and it was fantastically quiet. People walking around, but no queues and plenty of seats on trains/tubes/ferries. Definitely the best time to go.
We live in London and the centre is eerily quiet, which is lovely in social distancing terms but doesn't bode well for businesses surviving.

I drove from Oxford to Nottingham on Tuesday and the M1 was weirdly empty.

MiloAndEddie · 03/06/2021 07:36

North Norfolk is busy but not horrendously so. Can still get a table in cafes/pubs. Beach is busy but again not packed.

LarsErickssong · 03/06/2021 07:36

I live in a tourist town in the NW and it is horrendously busy (this is not a complaint as I'm thankful for tourists helping our economy get going again)

@NannyAndJohn

You'd have thought people would be more sensible now that we're in the Third Wave.

At least they'll have some nice memories to see them through the next lockdown.

If we get a third wave and another lockdown, I for one will be grateful that people, especially children, have some nice memories to see them through!

I live on Anglesey.
On Sunday I couldn't get down to my late DMs house (Passed away last year) to check on it, because the car park for the beach was full and everyone had parked like actual arseholes.

August last year it was the same- when she was on the morphine drip. Alarm was going off that it was about to run out and the district nurse couldn't get through.
It is great for local businesses, and people need jobs etc, but I am bitter and irrational because of that day.

GoofyIsACow · 03/06/2021 07:45

Not on holiday but live very close to the Lakes and it’s absolute chaos, cars abandoned everywhere and emergency services haven’t been able to get to various incidents this week.

GerardWay123 · 03/06/2021 07:48

I live in Bournemouth. It's a nightmare to get in or out of the area. The same with The New Forest. Luckily I live 5 minutes drive from the river and small woods so my dogs still have fun.

FlyingFlamingo · 03/06/2021 07:48

I’m in the Lakes, it’s the first time I have visited so I have nothing to compare it to. It’s fine as long as we leave the apartment by about 9:30, and park by 10:30ish, but we’ve found that once we are parked there is no chance of parking anywhere else so we have just been staying put. The M6 was busy coming up, and we have had to drive through Ambleside a few times to get back to the accommodation and the traffic at 4/5ish through there has been busy. It wouldn’t put me off coming back though, and we have managed to find quiet spots. We have had to be more organised at booking in advance for meals out and NT properties but I quite like that, knowing that numbers are limited but that I have guaranteed entry.

I live in a touristy place and no one on here has mentioned it yet, I would be interested to know how people have found it back home as well!

I was in the West Cotswolds over the bank holiday weekend and it really wasn't that bad. Lots of people at beauty spots like Coaley Peak but not overcrowded. It was beautiful.

Flowers Ravon.

Standrewsschool · 03/06/2021 07:52

Whistable - busy but okay on Sunday morning. However, as we left just after lunch, it was getting noticeably busy and there were long queues on the motorway heading that direction.

Hotcuppatea · 03/06/2021 07:54

I was camping in the Cotswolds and the campsite was packed full. Nice atmosphere though. We had a pub lunch in a very nice pub and luckily had booked in advance or wouldn't have got a table.

YesThisIsMe · 03/06/2021 07:56

We did a minibreak to York which was really busy but not so much so as to make it unpleasant. All the attractions needed booking a couple of days in advance so if you hadn’t planned carefully you were out of luck, but wandering around and shopping is still nice. Noticeable queues outside the most popular restaurants.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 03/06/2021 07:59

We are from East Sussex, went to Dorset.
Went on Sunday to avoid traffic. Still jams everywhere. Once there (Portesham) ditched the car and did buses everywhere.
Pub we stayed in with huge pub garden was busy all day and evening..
Rest of it as you would expect.
Meanwhile, back at home it has been pleasantly busy by all accounts!

haveaday · 03/06/2021 08:02

My part of South Devon has been busy but not totally rammed. Took the kids to the beach the other day and it was very busy but went out for a meal last night and it was not busy at all.

Blessex · 03/06/2021 08:07

In Cornwall and just so happy for the local businesses. Of course it will be busy - but if you live in a well known tourist area not sure that this is any surprise and should be welcome. All this ‘oh why don’t they go home’ is just shortsighted when so many in these tourist places rely on....tourism! The roads were busy getting here and meals need to be booked but apart from that it’s easy. Roads moving normally. Beaches have plenty of space to space out. Coastal paths - was surprised how empty. The G7 next week potential to be a nightmare as then roads and carparks will be closed.

NOTANUM · 03/06/2021 08:09

Come to London! Lots of space, pleasant public transport, all the shops and cafes are open and waiting Grin

CoffeeWithCheese · 03/06/2021 08:10

We were at CenterParcs a couple of weeks ago and it was busy but not rammed as they were running reduced occupancy and the pool was still closed (therefore reduced so we could afford it).

Judging by my social media the entire Midlands has headed to Cornwall though.

MargaretThatcherMilkSnatcher · 03/06/2021 08:11

@Onceuponatime1818

Bournmouth is rammed!’ But lush
Whereabouts? I live in Bournemouth, a stone's throw from the sea, and it's not rammed at all. Quieter than I've ever seen it during half-term week. Nobody is blocking my drive, and the roads and shops are quiet. It's bliss.

Are you in the town centre by the pier? You need to go a few miles east or west!

So do I, and I haven't seen this at all. The beach near my house is not full at all, the roads are clear, and it's only taking me 15 minutes to get to my favourite dog-walking spot in the New Forest. Is it the town centre that's a nightmare?
AlohaMolly · 03/06/2021 08:13

I live in snowdonia and work on Anglesey. I’d say it was busy but not busier than usual, with the caveat that the parking is much worse! Every year I think it can’t get worse and every year people prove me wrong. Last year, on Anglesey, people were lining both sides of a National speed limit, windy road up the cliffs just so they could get to the beach. You had to inch your way down the middle of the road and hope that there was no one coming towards you because you couldn’t see round the bloody bend!

HeronLanyon · 03/06/2021 08:13

Central london - tourists have increased very noticeably over the last week.

2anddone · 03/06/2021 08:15

I live in west Norfolk and only a 15 mile drive from Hunstanton etc the roads have been totally gridlocked all week and when we went for tea at Hunstanton Monday night queues for all food outlets were longer than I have ever seen them! Great to have people back Smile

Raspberrysins · 03/06/2021 08:20

Reading with interest as we didn’t book anything and I’ve got massive FOMO seeing everyone’s beach photos whist sitting in my garden 👀
