Are their queues everywhere or is it pleasantly quite quiet?

@NannyAndJohn people do remember lockdowns - that's why they're taking advantage now. If it's like last year issues will arise from foreign travel not so
Much in UK with good rates of vaccination and currently low case numbers.

This has gone on for over a year now - I've learned to not put things off.

South Pembrokeshire totally rammed . Car parks full up by 11am , beaches rammed. Luckily as a local I know places to park where tourists don't so got to enjoy a lovely coastal path stroll and look at the beaches in horror from afar Grin We go for a swim at 7pm when the crowds go.

effiehabb · 02/06/2021 09:11

Lyme Regis completely rammed, more so than usual!

greensnail · 02/06/2021 09:14

South Devon, roads have been busy at times but nowhere seems too busy once you get through the traffic.

delilahbucket · 02/06/2021 09:16

We went to Saltburn yesterday as it is near where we are staying. It was busy but plenty of space on the beach and to walk around. Lots of queues for everything, but due to people spreading out the queues look for worse than they actually are.

ElephantsNest · 02/06/2021 09:17

The well known tourist destinations are rammed but the slightly off the beaten track places are fine.

CaptainCorelli · 02/06/2021 09:17

Went to London yesterday for a day trip and it was fantastically quiet. People walking around, but no queues and plenty of seats on trains/tubes/ferries. Definitely the best time to go.

SayHelloJamieLee · 02/06/2021 09:17

@ExplodingCarrots not post-related and I'm sorry for the random question but is your username in reference to a Bottom episode? 😂

ThePlantsitter · 02/06/2021 09:20

@NannyAndJohn

You'd have thought people would be more sensible now that we're in the Third Wave.

At least they'll have some nice memories to see them through the next lockdown.

I think it is sensible to grab some joy while you can. Staves off depression when you can't.

I'm in Falmouth in Cornwall and it's busy but not unpleasantly so. it's less busy than last time I was here in May half term pre-covid (possibly because of the upcoming G7, lots of the carparks are closed).

It's very pleasant, we're in a lovely, freshly refurbed cottage, local business owners I have spoken to are happy to see everyone, pubs and restaurants are freshly open. Everyone is wearing masks where required. The weather is lovely and it's amazing to see some normal life returning. I am fully vaccinated and have absolutely no qualms about taking my family here. It's a long overdue break and catch up with family.

Live in N Wales and escaped that touristy area to come to N Devon.
Site we are on is filled to capacity where usually it is 75% full.
Easier to do some things due to having to book in advance and we booked where we are eating out tomorrow weeks ago knowing it would be pants.
Ilfracombe village busy yesterday but easy to park and shops not rammed. Huge queues on the harbour for fish and chips the other day though.
Glad the family who own the camp/chalet sit could run for more of a season this year as it was obv a bug struggle for them during the lockdown.

TheSpanishApartment · 02/06/2021 09:23

We are in South Cornwall, it’s busy but not rammed. There’s been plenty of space on the beach, short queues for fish and chips and ice cream but nothing out of the ordinary.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 02/06/2021 09:29

I’m in North Devon. It’s not too bad now but the weekend was incredibly busy. And it took us 10h to get down from the northwest on Saturday. Dreading the drive back this weekend.

We’ve not eaten out much as it’s just me and DS (8) but I did prebook a restaurant last night, which was good as they were all full. We booked surf lessons and they’re now fully booked all week and we’re going to a little theme park which had very limited availability when I booked a fortnight ago.

It’s so lovely to be away though and it’s helping DS get used to being back to normality again.

Beemail1 · 02/06/2021 09:34

Very quiet here. Not many on big beaches.
Coastal paths not crowded. Campsite has spaces.
Cornwall

Lulu1919 · 02/06/2021 09:42

I'm between Bristol and Bath in the Chew Valley ...we are not with children
Not hideous at all ....farm cafe yesterday found a table easily enough
Lake car park....empty ..but cafe was closed so that might have been a reason
Going to a National Trust property today ...watch this space !!
Had a quick pop into Bath at the weekend to visit a market...parked in a supermarket car park for couple hours.
The usual tourist places might be busy though...we chose this area thinking it would be quieter than Devon and Cornwall....we live on the Dorset coast .

stuffnthings · 02/06/2021 09:51

North Dorset, generally peaceful, however the usual local attractions are busy. The A303 last weekend was horrendous, even through the night.

loulouljh · 02/06/2021 09:54

Feels very normal in the west country. Busy but as expected for half term with nice weather. Fantastic to see! People relaxed and not worried about any third wave!

Iamsodonewith2020 · 02/06/2021 09:55

Center Parcs as busy as normal. Must be almost full capacity. Everything sold out although swimming pool occupancy well controlled due to it being massively limited. Traffic not quite as bad as normal on the way here though.

LittleBearPad · 02/06/2021 09:55

Cornwall it’s busier than normal at this time but not crazy. We’ve booked stuff - no being spontaneous these days - so have had dinner out etc. Where we’ve gone there have been no walk-ins as fully booked.

TokyoSushi · 02/06/2021 09:57

We're going to Cornwall on Friday, we get a 2 weeks half term which whilst isn't unheard of is a little more unusual as not everybody has it. Hoping things might be a tiny bit quieter but the weather is set to be glorious so not holding out much hope!

Fortunately, we're accepting of crowds/general business so it won't put us off!

oooff · 02/06/2021 09:57

I'm in coastal North Devon and had a driving lesson yesterday. It was scary! Cars, caravans and motor homes everywhere. Most people were just passing through my town though as it was dead! DS said the beach town was heaving though!

hilarymantlepiece · 02/06/2021 09:58

We live in a seaside town, NW. busiest I’ve ever seen it.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/06/2021 10:02

Somerset. Very busy, but everyone is happy and enjoying themselves. Seem really happy to be having a good time and no anxiety over any third wave. People are wearing masks, but it’s feeling much more like normality is resuming.

BashfulClam · 02/06/2021 10:07

It’s fine up in Scotland mostly but we don’t have the May half term as our schools break up for summer at the end of June.

Checkingout811 · 02/06/2021 10:09

We left mablethorpe on Monday. The weekend was quite busy but not horrendously so. The beach was quieter than the arcades & rides.
Off to Southport on Thursday for 3 nights which I expect to be busy.
