Anyone else seen the news?? Another baby on the way, relationship on the rocks, or good old fashioned age gap love?

He can get married in a RC church because his first two marriages and divorces are not recgnised by the RC church

Serpenta · 30/05/2021 19:03

Protestant marriages are recognised by the Catholic church.

Serpenta · 30/05/2021 19:04

Strings were pulled for him.

the80sweregreat · 30/05/2021 19:08

Ok, I should t have used Jeremy Corbyn as an example of a three times married person.
Fair enough point.
It's just politicians private lives can be a bit colorful sometimes, even though he isn't anything to do with Boris and Carrie Johnson of course.

@IndecentCakes

I demand Pope Francis does a MN live chat to explain.

I'm nearly sure that I recall Jerry Hall said dear old Mick wanted the house back once she reached pension age and the kids were no longer minors. Not a lot to choose between the two MrJs it seems.

Serpenta · 30/05/2021 19:24

Mick Jagger really is an old tightwad. Definitely re-uses teabags.

Vinomummyinlockdown · 30/05/2021 19:29

Nice way to detract from the Cummings shit show and covid ……..

Being Catholic is not a disqualification from being PM. That was changed in the 19th century. Apart from a Catholic not being able to be monarch, I think the last office from which Catholics were barred was Lord Chancellor, and that was changed in 1974.

There is no legal requirement that any PM must be legal, decent, honest and truthful.

It still looks odd that Boris, nominally a Catholic, should be allowed a 3rd marriage in the Catholic church, on the somewhat questionable pretext that his previous marriages weren't Catholic, and therefore don't count. Isn't the corollary to this approach that all his prior children are (in Catholic eyes) illegitimate?

midsomermurderess · 30/05/2021 19:40

Derxa, who said that? There are people on here who would have arguments in empty rooms. Who would hands down win the Projection Olympics.

CatAndHisKit · 30/05/2021 19:45

It must have been the Service of Blessing re church, not the full wedding service of course.

angela99999 · 30/05/2021 19:49

She's a practising Catholic and neither have had Catholic marriages before so, in the eyes of the church they are having their first marriage

Serpenta · 30/05/2021 19:51

Why do people keep saying that? The Catholic church recognises weddings that took place in another Christian church.

Serpenta · 30/05/2021 19:51

They can discount a civil wedding but not one that took place in an Anglican church.

Paralithic · 30/05/2021 19:54

@Sweetslumber

derxa - Johnson was quite reasonable looking as a young man.

Nope! I don’t see it!

Me neither.

It was on the news tonight. I was surprised too, but it is the case

Eek! What did I say?
Imissmoominmama · 30/05/2021 20:09

Engagement, pregnancy, rescue dog, COVID-19, birth, marriage (apologies if they’re in the wrong order).

All happened when he was being questioned over his ethics/behaviour/morality/legality.

Hmm.

Buttercup1954 · 30/05/2021 20:13

Some happy news for a change. Congratulations to the happy couple!!

Bravesoul · 30/05/2021 20:18

If a Baptised Catholic gets married in the Anglican church they need to seek the approval of the Catholic Bishop for it to be recognised by the Catholic Church

OhHarry · 30/05/2021 20:39

I wonder which children had to give the wedding a miss to get under the 30 people limit?

@Galdos
" Isn't the corollary to this approach that all his prior children are (in Catholic eyes) illegitimate?"
I am interested in this question too.
I was baptised Catholic (but am lapsed).
I married a man (in the Scottish Episcopalian church) who was also baptised Catholic. He'd had a prior wedding in the Catholic church but was then legally divorced (but, wierdly, couldn't tell our SE priest if he'd had an annulment or not (not sure how I'd find out???..).
We had 2 children, are now separated and I am seeking a divorce.
A friend who claims to be an authority on Catholicism tells me that I was never married in the eyes of the Catholic church as a. H still married to his first wife (as his first wife is still alive) and b. my ceremony was SEchurch not Catholic. but also c. that my children are 'illegitimate' in the eyes of the CC. Is this so I wonder?

Bravesoul · 30/05/2021 21:26

When a marriage is annulled the children are still legitimate

Bravesoul · 30/05/2021 21:28

Your children are seen as legitimate as your was a legal marriage
