Hi there, we are getting a beautiful hound type female dog in the next two weeks, and we need a name for her.
Because she looks so noble, I don't really want a cutesy scruffy name, I want a noble name, but one we can yell across the park without sounding like knobs. We have met her and her parents twice now, and they are such lovely calm and gentle dogs I don't need anything that sounds too vigorous either.
I know I am overthinking this, but I've been wanting a dog for 10 years now, but haven't been in the right circumstances to be at home for her. I want to
This is the list:
Romily (Romy)
Dulcie
Amber
Sadie
Lana
The only one I really like is Dulcie, but the others have been suggested by DD and DH. Can you suggest some other lovely names?
Others that have been nixed by my pesky family:
Sienna,
Honey
Juno
Eden

Thanks in advance!

Sadie is really nice and works for a dog I think (I like dogs so no offence to any Sadies!)

Enough4me · 29/05/2021 19:01

Cleo
Clara
Luna
Hera

RoSEbuds6 · 29/05/2021 19:01

I like Sadie too, but to me it's quite a hipsterish trendy girls name rather than a dog's name. It is the current favourite though, so I will probably be overruled!

Ooh Hera is lovely but I will be yelling "Here Hera", it might be confusing.
Cleo is a goodie though, will add it to the list!
Thanks :) @Sheeeeeep @Enough4me

Queenie

Isabella

Lady

RoSEbuds6 · 29/05/2021 19:04

Thank you @AdaColeman I like Queenie, and had an auntie Queenie when I was little. I'll add that too.

Dulcie is lovely. I like Juno too, but I see your family members don’t.
Liberty?

Blondiney · 29/05/2021 19:07

I know a pretty little Whippet called Sadie. Not sure it suits her to be honest.

AdaColeman · 29/05/2021 19:12

Some more thoughts
Duchess

Artemis

Gaia

Topaz (if it fits with the colour, I noticed you had Amber already)

RoSEbuds6 · 29/05/2021 19:12

Yes, they are Philistines @Saucery. I did think of Liberty, but then could only think of the Nan from Catherine Tate saying "fackin Liberty!".
Ruined it for me tbh!

Ooh @AdaColeman Topaz would be nice, but I would imagine DH would baulk at it a bit.

Grin Yes, I suppose it would be difficult not to lapse into Gran when calling her across a park! The Liberty I knew was a beautiful, elegant girl so that’s why it sprung to mind.
oneboy3girls · 29/05/2021 19:20

Alice

CastAColdEye · 29/05/2021 19:27

We have a Lurcher called Lyra.

SunlessSea · 29/05/2021 19:31

We have a GSD called Star (from The Lost Boys)

RoSEbuds6 · 29/05/2021 19:32

@oneboy3girls and @CastAColdEye Alice was one of the names we had for DD - lovely. And I did think of Lyra too - it's very nice too. I'll put it on the list :)

LolaNova · 29/05/2021 19:32

Marcie
Martha
Thea
Piper
Hettie

I really want a greyhound called Linda for no real reason 😂

VetOnCall · 29/05/2021 19:33

Jura
Lara
Elsa
Cora
Callie
Portia
Darcy
Stella
Willow/Willa

I also like Juno.

TheDogsMother · 29/05/2021 19:33

I like Audrey as in Audrey Hepburn. Not so much noble but very sophisticated.

RoSEbuds6 · 29/05/2021 19:34

That's a lovely name @SunlessSea, I could try for Stella (but it might sound like we named her after a larger!)

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 29/05/2021 19:38

Ours is called Phoebe Smile

Enough4me · 29/05/2021 19:41

Pippa

RoSEbuds6 · 29/05/2021 19:45

Jura is a goodie - @VetOnCall - I tried for Cromarty but got laughed at. Portia and Darcy were also on one of my previous lists, but refused.
Audrey = tres chic but not sure if it's us @TheDogsMother
Thea is nice @LolaNova and could be a goer.

@JesusInTheCabbageVanPhoebe is lovely and could be known as Fleabag too! If it's good enough for her on the telly, it could be good enough for us :)

Portia?
