Who is responsible for removing tissues from pockets before washing clothes?

The tissue user who puts them into the pocket or the person loading the washing machine?

Ps I will only be sharing this thread with DH if everyone agrees with me Wink

Really? We're odd to do our own washing? Why on earth would that be odd?!

You've obviously missed the multiple threads where this gets discussed ( lucky you!!)

Apparently each individual adult doing their own washing is either

  • Terrible for the environment as we much are doing multiple small loads ( although people do explain we just wait until we have a full load)

Or

  • mean spirited

It's strange 🤷🏼‍♀️

Although it should be the owner of the clothes if you don’t want white snow stuck to your washed items then check anyway. It’s really easy to think you have checked all pockets and miss one squashed up tissue.

Under 5 years old, the person doing the washing. Over 5 years old, the wearer .

Personally, I have encouraged my DC to put dirty tissues in the bin. DH would never put them in his pocket, we all believe this is gross!
I have to agree. Why would you put your own expelled bodily fluids back in your pocket? And you can hardly reuse a tissue full of cold snot. Just put it in the bin!

oohmyback · 29/05/2021 09:28

I never check pockets. I've washed my husbands cycling garmin twice we can't afford to replace it but he can fuck off if he thinks I'm checking his sweaty pockets!

Thankfully (for him, I couldn't give a shit) it's as waterproof as it says it is!

I'd check my 7 year olds pockets but not the older kids (12 and 14) I have enough to do!

SquigglePigs · 29/05/2021 09:30

The tissue user if the clothes are in the wash basket. The person putting the wash on if they round up clothes from random dumped places. Also the person putting the wash on if the user is under about age 10 ish (age a bit variable - I have a toddler so am guessing at when I'd expect her to be responsible).

Adults and teens should empty their own pockets.

But I do check pockets of my younger dc before I put their clothes in the machine.

Landedmydreamjob · 29/05/2021 09:37

Haven’t read the whole thread but if you have a tumble dryer pop the tissued clothes in the dryer and the tissue comes off into the filter.

Clothes wearer should check pockets.

My dcs were taught from a young age to check their pockets before putting dirty clothes in the wash bin. One lost a pair of ipod earphones because he didn't check and the other, a piece of paper with important information (important to an 11 year old, so not earth-shattering in the scheme of things). They both learned very quickly to che k their pockets in future. DH is the main culprit, now there are just the two of us at home. He's getting better though because although I load the machine and turn it on, he is the one who has to sort out the washed stuff to hang out etc. It only took a couple of times having to pick the white fluff off the dark clothes for him to learn his lesson.

The person putting the wash on if they round up clothes from random dumped places.

I would never do this. Isn't in the basket? Doesn't get washed.

Livpool · 29/05/2021 14:22

Whoever wore the clothes

LaBellina · 29/05/2021 14:25

Person wearing the clothes.

My DM literally did some money laundering once because DF had a big stash of bank notes in his pockets and completely forgot them so the money was laundered and then hung out to dry on the washing line!

Figgyboa · 29/05/2021 14:30

In my house it's the person doing the washing. That's me and it doesn't bother me in the slightest

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 29/05/2021 14:32

In our house the rule is the wearer checks the pockets and is responsible. In reality the washer, that would be me, also checks!

Returnoftheowl · 29/05/2021 14:50

Absolutely the wear of the clothes checks their own pockets!

I agree, but some of us do keep clean tissues in our pockets! Especially if we have sniffly/grubby children, and don’t want to take a full handbag of stuff out with us.
