RealhousewifeofStoke · 28/05/2021 21:10

The tissue user who puts them into the pocket or the person loading the washing machine?

Ps I will only be sharing this thread with DH if everyone agrees with me Wink

Each adult could do their own washing so any fluff left only affects them?

bakingdemon · 28/05/2021 21:59

Tissue user who put them in the pocket

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 28/05/2021 22:12

@NaturalStudy, ah no, there must be two of them. Mine doesn't have pen knifes. Stanley blades though are also a common occurance, so no way am I sticking my hands in those pockets!

AtLeastPretendToCare · 28/05/2021 22:16

The wearer. Provided that they had put them into the washing basket. If the washer took them from where you leave half worn clothes and proactively decided to wash then they should check.

AuntieStella · 28/05/2021 22:16

Both.

The wearer shouid empty pockets before putting in laundry basket, and the launderer should double check

Mrbob · 28/05/2021 22:20

Clothes wearer. Do they check their pockets when THEY do their washing? Or is it an acopic man who can’t use the machine

Donitta · 28/05/2021 22:31

The wearer needs to check the pockets before putting the clothes in the basket. No way am I touching someone else’s dirty tissues! I will check the pockets of primary school DC but that’s my limit. If it’s in the basket it goes in the wash. Tissues, money, electronics - it goes in the wash. Belts that are still attached to trousers and chucked in the basket go in the wash. Lapel pins that have been left on jackets go in the wash. White shirts that have been left inside a jumper go in the wash with the jumper. And if the shirt isn’t unbuttoned then it gets hung up the exact same way I found it. If the machine breaks then the person who left stuff in their pocket has to pay for the repair out of their own personal funds.

Clothes wearer/snotter. In this house the clothes wearer IS the person doing the washing, so we avoid this issue (but a good chunk of Mumsnet thinks we’re odd).

paralysedbyinertia · 28/05/2021 22:34

The owner of the clothes, obviously.

But in our house, that would be the same as the person putting the washing on anyway. We all do our own laundry.

Really? We're odd to do our own washing? Why on earth would that be odd?!Confused
YellowFish12 · 28/05/2021 22:39

Whoever put clothes in the washing basket with tissues in the pocket, of course

aiwblam · 28/05/2021 22:41

Both must check. That way if one forgets or misses it, the other should find it.

thriftyhen · 28/05/2021 22:44

Get everyone to use hankies and not tissues and then you won't have a problem as the handkerchief get washed in the pocket! Tissues are a just a waste of money.

getyourfreakon · 28/05/2021 23:02

The person who was wearing the clothes. This is how I ended up washing two passports that weren't mine. Check the pockets of the clothes you've worn and dumped before expecting them to be laundered by someone else! Found my given back engagement ring the same way (arsehole).

PASStheCAKEandCHOC · 28/05/2021 23:04

The person who's clothes they are. If they don't and that tissue (always in a bloody dark loads) ends up disintegrated over the clothes. That person has to pick all the bits off by hand... Always the same culprits here. Dh and Dsd lol they haven't learned yet

motogogo · 28/05/2021 23:04

Person wearing the clothes of over 8 or so

Arbadacarba · 28/05/2021 23:05

The wearer of clothes - unless they hadn't put them in the laundry basket (or whatever the equivalent signal is in your house for 'I'd like this to be washed').

EL8888 · 28/05/2021 23:06

Tissue user / clothes owner as it’s grim. Plus it’s not a full service launderette. I have a full time job and other stuff to do

newtolineofduty · 28/05/2021 23:07

Without a doubt the person who wore the clothes! X it's also their responsibility to open up their socks etc before putting them in the washing basket so they're not washed in a little ball and therefore not washed properly!! Grrrr x

Howzaboutye · 28/05/2021 23:08

Cor Donitta no messing around in your house!

Changechangychange · 28/05/2021 23:10

Whoever put them in the laundry basket.

It’s fine to leave tissues in trousers that you plan to re-wear. But once you decide to put them in the basket, you are marking them as ready to be washed, in my book. Not my fault if they weren’t.

You should not put delicate dry-clean only clothes in there all tangled up with a load of T-shirts and pants either. Or if you do, don’t blame me if I don’t notice them and separate them out (we have a net bag for delicates).

SteveArnottsWaistcoat · 28/05/2021 23:10

Well, this has its upside. If I’m having to empty the pockets of shite, any money gets kept! Those be the roles.

My teenage son now does his own washing 😁

Yubaba · 28/05/2021 23:13

The person who’s clothes they are, I never check pockets. If you leave something in a pocket and it gets washed it’s your fault and you should have been more careful.
DS1 is terrible for leaving things in his pockets and I’ve washed his Fitbit twice Angry but I refuse to check. It’s his responsibility and he needs to be more careful.

jmh740 · 28/05/2021 23:15

Anyone over primary school age should check their own pockets, any money found in the machine belongs to the person emptying the machine (which is usually me! I put it all into a money box that counts the total for me so far this year I'm up to £27 worth of lose change)

Donitta · 28/05/2021 23:19

Honestly I don’t have time for messing around. If I start taking tissues out of pockets then that will be seen as permission to continue not removing tissues. One fluffy tissue wash that leaves clothes unwearable means it won’t happen again! Ditto belts and all the other stuff.
