Where are my keys?!

This morning I was rushing and got in the car didn't have the keys but our car has push start button so as long as the keys are in the vehicle it'll start.

Dropped off and returned home fine, went to nip out again and the keys no where to be seen. I've turned the car upside down. If I'd of dropped the keys after drop off the car would alert me that I was driving without the fob in the car.

I am stumped.

Dashboard?

AwFeebs · 27/05/2021 18:38

If the key was in the car it would start that's what confusing me.

I haven't touched the key today. 🙈

I really need to be more careful.

Key was in your jacket pocket - jacket is now in the house. So car won't start.

PixellatedPixie · 27/05/2021 18:41

They might be Under the seat somewhere but have moved around when you were driving and so are now blocked by metal and so won’t work. The signal is now blocked by where they’ve moved to. Metal prevents the signal getting through. You can prevent car theft by storing the keys in a metal box and being under the metal but of the seat would also block the signal.

I’ve left my keys in the back seat with the kids and the car still starts but when I once left them in the boot with the dog it didn’t start.

I've checked all my coat pockets. Completely empty even checked my bra in case I'd shoved it in there. Grin

I've stripped the car down, emptied boot completely and removed boot tray. Lifted back seats up to check they've not gone underneath.

Under front seats pushed back and then pushed right up to the front. Checked between the handbrake and seats. Checked seat rails, dash, glove box.

My friend did something similar. Started her car, dropped stuff off at her mums with teens in the car so she didn't switch off. Drive ten miles and realised when she arrived that the keys were in the bag she'd left at her mums. She had to get a taxi back Grin

Check the bin.

AwFeebs · 27/05/2021 18:48

I've rung the doctors as that's the car park we're allowed to use for drop off and nothings been handed in. Confused

Do you have a sunglasses holder in the roof of your car?

AwFeebs · 27/05/2021 18:58

@ConfusedAdultFemale yeah we do, checked them too..

Is it possible that the keys were somewhere near the door (eg because slid out of drivers pocket) and that when the door was opened, they fell out and are now in gutter / parking space where door last opened? If you kept the engine running then the car would get you home but refuse to start once it had been turned off.

AwFeebs · 27/05/2021 19:35

I did wonder that @Skysblue but if I drive without the fob in the car it sets off an alarm on the dash. Really has stumped me!

Do you have seat covers, could they be underneath? My keys were once in the liner of the baby car seat, pulled the liner off and they were there, had slipped down as I strapped the baby in.

WeAreTheHeroes · 27/05/2021 19:43

Were they in a skirt/trouser/dress pocket and they've dropped out in the house somewhere, e.g. in the loo or bathroom? Did you have a bag with you?

AwFeebs · 27/05/2021 20:24

Didn't have anything with pockets aside from coat which I've checked.

No seat covers either 🙈

Are you wearing the same clothes and carrying the same stuff as when it started this morning?

AwFeebs · 27/05/2021 20:54

Yeah same everything.

Is there a hole in the lining of your handbag?

MiddleClassMother · 27/05/2021 21:17

I'm always losing the keys to my car, I normally leave them in my bag, but sometimes they fall out, or I don't take my bad to work so chuck it somewhere on my person. Last week, it was under the cover of the boot, where the spare tyre is. My car is a Range Rover, and the keys work in the boot, but my friends volvo doesn't, even in the back seat it doesn't work!

AwFeebs · 28/05/2021 08:00

@Palavah no I've checked the lining of my bag and coat.

@MiddleClassMother I'm investing in a key finder fob.

If the house keys are with the car key check the front door.

TheoMeo · 28/05/2021 08:39

Somewhere in the door. behind the pull handle on the door?
