Present for vegan child?

WhathappenstoDD · 24/05/2021 14:15

Been invited to an old school friends DCs birthday party with my DD. SFs DC will be turning 5, my DD will be 7 by the time we go.

Invite says that they can only accept gifts which are fully vegan including toys. I was thinking maybe of getting a book? But I don’t know if books are vegan.

So any suggestions? I don’t want to offend by turning up with the wrong present.

I would think a book would be OK, unless there's something animal based in the glue used to bind them. I've never heard of books being vegan or non vegan though, and plenty of vegans read books?

CaviarAndCigarettes · 24/05/2021 14:20

Amazon gift card

WhathappenstoDD · 24/05/2021 14:21

@CaviarAndCigarettes

Amazon gift card
No plastic, they made that clear in the message inviting us.

A carrot? Grin

There are websites selling vegan clothes, that might be a goer.

Wow okay

How about this?

I like those, bit more than I wanted to spend but if it means not offending them I'll go for it.

Vegan clothes would be a good bet, I wish I was creative enough to make something but thus I am not so will search the web.

Wow strict family

I think colouring books and colouring pencils would be fine. Doubt they are made with animal glue anymore

theneverendinglaundry · 24/05/2021 14:27

You can print out the Amazon gift card, rather than get a plastic one.

I would think a book would be fine. Or how about one of those Orchard games? They are usually plastic free.

CaviarAndCigarettes · 24/05/2021 14:27

You could put some pound coins in a card.
I think the new notes are non vegan

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/05/2021 14:27

Have a look on ethicalsuperstore.com

MirroredWindows · 24/05/2021 14:28

A glass jar with some air in it?

CaviarAndCigarettes · 24/05/2021 14:29

Ooh you could do a mason jar with vegan ingredients for making their own vegan brownies

JackieTheFart · 24/05/2021 14:30

I’d give them a fiver. I don’t have time to be searching out vegan books or whatever.

Soubriquet · 24/05/2021 14:31

What about some really cool vegan bath bombs!?

lms2017 · 24/05/2021 14:31

You could sponsor an animal for them ?
Or make a donation to a vegan friendly charity ?

They do lovely bamboo dinner sets of not.
Plus Amazon vouchers you don't need a plastic card it just gives you a code on email if preferred x

lms2017 · 24/05/2021 14:34

Also vegan pick a mix is everywhere right now X

sylbunny · 24/05/2021 14:34

I had a friend like this ... she was hard work to say the least!

You need to be looking for something ethical, recycled ideally and also not animal themed. My friend wouldn't have farm animals on her babies clothes for example! No old Mac Donald there!

Green toys is a good brand. It's plastic but 100% recycled. You can buy their stuff on Amazon (which is arguably worse than buying something none vegan but local!). A lot is on sale right now.

For example:

Green Toys Seacopter https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00IL7IFMO/ref=cmswwrcppapiglttfabcN1JRMDJ3FMQCRGC1DENE

WhathappenstoDD · 24/05/2021 14:35

Thank you for the suggestions, I do want to give a present. I feel a bit sorry for the little girl tbh, she doesn't go to school as her parents say they "haven't found the right school", she seems happy enough in photos but must be lonely so hoping she'll get along with my DD so they can at least be friends.

Hence trying to get the present right.

Surely the Amazon voucher suggestion was a joke?
I know lots of eco-warrior vegan types who boycott Amazon for ethical reasons.
They usually favour secondhand stuff, too (less production, less waste).
So ideally a book or wooden toy from a charity shop.
Or good quality crayons and recycled paper.

rainbowstardrops · 24/05/2021 14:37

Blimey, they sound super strict. Poor little girl.

AnotherEmma · 24/05/2021 14:38

The parents sound a bit batshit btw...
We are not big fans of endless plastic but would never dictate presents to that extent!

sylbunny · 24/05/2021 14:38

You could also look at books by a company called little green books. Search on Amazon for the brand

Example (bit depressing but hey ho!)

The Polar Bears' Home: A Story about Global Warming (Little Green Books) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1416967877/ref=cmswwrcppapiglttfabcY7DHATZXQ76WS8VPZ80E

Undersnatch · 24/05/2021 14:40

Wow, how to lose friends and alienate people. Do they make these stipulations in a respectful way? (If there is one)
