Their bakery stuff is lovely - we love their rolls and the natas (Portuguese egg custard tarts)

mrsfeatherbottom · 22/05/2021 17:10

Oh, and they do little mini Magnum type ice creams which are lovely (I find big Magnums too big)

Egghead81 · 22/05/2021 17:10

Walk out
Usually a Waitrose nearby

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/05/2021 17:12

Big bags of nuts.

There isn't a Waitrose in my town. The nearest is 10 miles away.
IggyAce · 22/05/2021 17:15

Croissants & sourdough bread from the Bakery.

Justmuddlingalong · 22/05/2021 17:19

Their twix (better than branded twix) snickers and mars bars.

Whatwouldscullydo · 22/05/2021 17:21

Avoid the fruit , veg and meat.

cloudymaydays · 22/05/2021 17:25

I'm not a huge fan of Lidl, but I would buy their bakery croissants, mini cucumbers and peppers and chocolate!

Babyroobs · 22/05/2021 17:29

Their spreadable butter is nice in the black tub, fruit and veg usually ok, bakery items are great, particularly their pain au chocolate and brownie squares ( kids like them). I really like their seeded bloomer bread in the non bakery bread section, Dishwasher tablets are fine as are their washing capsules etc.

There isn't a waitrose anywhere near me so this is a pointless statement
whatwoulddexterdo · 22/05/2021 17:31

I buy everything from there
Their humus, salmon, casserole beef, burgers and sausages are ace loo roll , kitchen roll and dishwasher tabs ,are brilliant and very cheap

I simply don't Understand why people are so snobbish against lidl.

I find waitrose so expensive and it takes so long to get thru the tills. I simply don't have time to waste and really do not have a grandiose attitude towards where I buy my groceries.

Download the lidl app. I save £10 a month this way

dementedpixie · 22/05/2021 17:34

Just checked and my nearest waitrose is 20 miles away!

I get mini peshwari nan breads from there as the kids like them

I mean from Lidl, not waitrose
Sniffingtheair · 22/05/2021 17:39

@Egghead81 If by nearby, you mean 100 miles, yeah....

Sniffingtheair · 22/05/2021 17:41

Burgers, cheeses and bakery items are good. They often have special weeks of international foods so you can get some interesting bits. I always stock up on the multi-coloured pasta during Italian week.

Maybe they tried it and don't like it. No one pays more for for food for the fun of it.

As a supermarket ii have found it offers poor consistency, poor quality with fruit veg and meat. But MN seems to be a race to the bottom with find at times.

If you are happy there good for you.

Others want more reliability, have shitty local stores or prefer to pay pay more ethically produced meat

Having different standards ir requirements does not make one snobby.

SummerHouse · 22/05/2021 17:44

The "young Gouda" sliced cheese is really nice (in bagels with ham, mustard and mayo)...

purpleleotard · 22/05/2021 17:44

coffee, jam, cereals, nuts, bread, croissants, beer, gin, loo rolls, cheese, fish, homus, salad, fruit. veg. milk, cream,

for starters

NursieBernard · 22/05/2021 17:44

I get most of my groceries from Lidl the things that stand out the most for either price of taste are, houmous, wheat crackers, toilet roll, toiletries, tin foil, bin bags, herbs and spices, pesto, nuts, chorizo and salami.

I really don't understand the need for bragging rights when it comes to food shopping, very sad. I have shopped in Waitrose and was neither impressed nor unimpressed, it's just a place to buy ingredients for meals, surely its the meals you make with them that matter.

Snooks1971 · 22/05/2021 17:45

Face creams and the serum are rather good, especially if you have more mature or drier skin.

Crockof · 22/05/2021 17:46

Are the bakery items still open for all in massive baskets? My nearest was fine until the refit and now it's like a glasshouse, full of flies and horrid. I wish they hadn't tried to anglify their shops. So if yours isn't unhygienic, the goats cheese is good but

purpleleotard · 22/05/2021 17:46

Last time I went to a Waitrose the place was dirty and the staff inefficient. They spent too much time chatting to their friends and had little knowledge of the produce.

SummerHouse · 22/05/2021 17:48

Wow did not know you saved money with the app. £10 sounds like a significant amount too. I am off to download thank you!!

SummerHouse · 22/05/2021 17:51

I shop in Asda, Lidl, Waitrose and M and S. I love them all. For different reasons.

My head's been turned lately by a couple of nice products at Tesco but there's only so much food shopping I can do!
