In the freezer section buy the stuffed potato croquettes with sun dried tomato and basil inside.. literally the best.

schofieldsunderpants · 22/05/2021 17:52

The piri piri spatchcock chicken is popular with DH and our sons.

Greek yogurts - plain and strawberry

Bakery - Portuguese Natas are beautiful

We like trying whatever is the special of the week - often it's something like Greek week etc and you can try some unusual stuff

I was eyeing these very beauts up last time I was there! I will get them next time.

Which brings me to my only criticism. They do stuff, you buy it, you flipping LOVE it, then you never see it again.

QueenPaw · 22/05/2021 18:01

This cheese is really nice, it's a strong cheddar with the salt crystals
Potato wedges (frozen) also good and about 90p for a giant bag

These? Yes they are lovely! I think they are from Italian week a few weeks ago and so I need to stock up!

Nothing is worth the queue at the under-staffed tills or the stench of cheap, greasy food from the bakery section.

QueenPaw · 22/05/2021 18:37

@katy1213 they're not all the same
Mine has self checkout, rarely any queues unless you go Saturday at peak times and it's a brand new store. Lovely staff and products
The only thing I don't like is the bagged salad as it doesn't last at all

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 22/05/2021 18:38

Hortus gin, fresh sourdough and Danish pastries (in fact, most the freshly baked stuff), Tropicana orange juice dupe, fresh smoothies, Lurpak dupe, cheese, coffee pods, jam. Avoid the cereal dupes except the muesli.

SimonJT · 22/05/2021 18:41

The little snacking cucumbers and tomato selection is lovely.

Their own brand dairy free icecream etc is really good.

purplecorkheart · 22/05/2021 18:48

Ireland based so we may not have the same items. I like the fried rice style ready meal with ham and leeks. I like the snack/lunch houmous. I like the salmon gravadlax. Also a lot of the bakery items (that I now buy that they are wrapped rather than before Covid). There is a New Zealand White Wine Marlbourgh that is excellent for the price. Also buy flowers there for hall table.

murbblurb · 22/05/2021 18:51

If any of the Greek stuff is left, stock up on that. I visit lidl twice a year for this - otherwise our Aldi is cheaper, better and quieter.

ReviewingTheSituation · 22/05/2021 18:55

The Greek yogurt (it's proper Greek, not Greek-style), the scottish salmon (deluxe range) knocks spots off all other supermarket salmon, tomatoes- loads of lovely varieties and grown in Britain, all their staples/basics. I love it!

PamDenick · 22/05/2021 18:56

A paddleboard

rollerskates

sewing machine and/or overlocker

NailsNeedDoing · 22/05/2021 18:59

Ground coffee.

Apart from that you can’t know what you want to buy from Lidl until you get to the middle magical mystery aisle and discover what things you desperately need.

GuyFawkesDay · 22/05/2021 19:05

The cheddar posted by PP is as good as the M&S Cornish cruncher. Its yummy.
The dried fruit and nuts are fantastic.
Also like the snacking cucumbers etc.
Buy salmon from there to make en croute. Exactly same as Sainsbury's but cheaper.

gelert5619 · 22/05/2021 19:07

Check the website on Sundays and Thursdays. I get regular emails so I don't miss out. Tommorow, 23rd there are travel goods which include Anti-Theft shoulder bags, bum bags and backpacks. They look very similar to the grey shoulder bag I got from Travelon which was not cheap. Lots of security features. I've also got lots of garden things which have been well made and much cheaper than elsewhere. Enjoy and take a shopping trolley with you!!

DDiva · 22/05/2021 19:10

Their bakery is great.

Their chilled section for picnic/bbq sides pasta salad, coleslaw, hummus. Plus ham, cheese, pate.

Jam plus their delux sharing crisps.

Nuggetnugget · 22/05/2021 19:12

Absoultely love lidl. The kawol (or kavol) vodka is my favourite.
I buy all our fruit and veg - great selection of salads hummus falafel.
Ham joints salmon. Breaded fish.
Butter yoghuts. Smoothie drinks.
Jams. Marmalade. The deluxe tea bags.
Honey. Crackers.
The purple washing powder. Deluxe candles. Frozen gratin potatoes (4 pack minis)
Steak and steak burgers.
Lunch stuff for the kids.toilet roll
Limescale remover is absolutely brilliant

Can you tell I like lidl Envy

Nuggetnugget · 22/05/2021 19:13

That was meant to be a happy emoji

Heyha · 22/05/2021 19:15

I'm normally a big advocate for Lidl but my main draw was always the bakery and they have still got everything loose in baskets so I can't face buying it which is a shame as the prepackaged bakery range is pretty pants.

Still great for cheese and cold meats etc and just basic stuff, and a look at the specials and the middle. I don't think I could ship exclusively there but it's definitely good enough to do three weeks out of four with a big shop somewhere with a wider range for cupboard stuff etc.

madaboutrunning · 22/05/2021 19:15

I love Lidl and do most of my shopping there. It's cheap, quick (as there's no faffing about to choose between brands) and there are no large stacks of chocolate, crisps and other such stuff in your face. The things I love the most are

Big tubs of Greek yogurt
Stuffed chillis and olives from the fridge cabinet
Big bowls of hummus
All the cheeses
Nuts and seeds
Jars of pickled beetroot, cornichons, olives etc
Jam
Salmon en croute from the freezer
Random bits from the theme weeks
Random bits from the middle of Lidl

FleetwoodRaincoat · 22/05/2021 19:17

Their premium range of cheeses is very good.

Premium peanut butter ditto.

Nuts and seeds are good value.

The Elvis Juice copy is only 99p a can and is nice.

Eggs, flour and baking staples.

Canned cherry tomatoes, mushy peas, sweetcorn, tuna all fine.

Lanesra1886 · 22/05/2021 19:20

The croissants as you walk in are the best! I bought two earlier Grin

The four pack of sausage rolls £1.79 also very good and coleslaw/cheese coleslaw 85p

There's a very good scampi too

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 22/05/2021 19:22

Am in denmark so dont know if you have the same stuff but the mini chocolate brioche buns are dds favourite.
Mini magnums.
Hot chocolate.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 22/05/2021 19:22

Their frozen foods are quite good I find.
