Do you know an ‘Amanda‘ from Motherland?

I love motherland and this 3rd series has been the funniest imo 😀

Amanda and Liz are my faves, despite Amanda totally doing my head in at the same time 🤣

I wondered whether you know or knew anyone like Amanda? She seems a bit too far fetched!

Or any of the other characters?

I found the third series really funny too. GarRy Grin

Scr1bblyGum · 20/05/2021 12:27

I know one.

greyinganddecaying · 20/05/2021 12:29

I do. Not every aspect of Amanda as she's definitely an exaggerated caricature, but enough.

Does make me wonder which stereotype I fit into though... Grin

I know one. She's a bit kinder than Amanda but very much like her, in looks and personality.

TUGGY2006 · 20/05/2021 12:57

I just started motherland the other day its very funny. Only on season 2 at the minute but yes we do have an Amanda at our school, very draining individual lol. I love Liz's character and I wish I was more like her as in being able to say what I want without worrying about anyone. I feel for Julia her hubby clearly is useless and she's airways so frazzled I hope things work out for her.

wingsofsteel · 20/05/2021 13:14

I know an Amanda in every way but looks. I once heard her explain to a 'friend' struggling as a newly single and skint mum that actually she ('Amanda') had it harder since she has higher standards. So 'friend' might be worrying about making ends meet but she didn't have to worry herself about the difficulties of finding organic food locally, finding a good cleaner etc

I also feel for Julia. I thought in this series it's so obvious that she just wants someone to show her a bit of care and attention.
redfairy · 20/05/2021 13:32

Julia will be fine when her in laws arrive to help out Grin

Hoppinggreen · 20/05/2021 13:34

I know someone who seems as perfect as Amanda and I really really wanted to hate her bit she’s a lovely kind woman who would do anything for you and probably rescues kittens in her spare time while helping orphans to read.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 20/05/2021 16:29

is this one of those questions where the answer is that if you don't know one that's because it's you?🤣

MrsVeryTired · 20/05/2021 16:33

I definitely know an Amanda, although not nearly as slim or pretty (miaow!). I'm definitely more of a Liz Grin

MrsVeryTired · 20/05/2021 16:36

To rephrase I appear like Liz but am then plagued with guilt about offending people so a mix maybe of Liz and Kevin!

MsMeNz · 20/05/2021 16:39

I'm basically Julia I think lol Harried corporate working mum. However I don't interact with any parents at school gates only if I must to org a play date usally via text. I don't know an Amanda per se but I know her type in the past and they were generally vacated of me as I didn't take their passive aggressive comments I'd just call them out or give them a raised eyebrow or eye roll. I have not play that game.

It has pissed me off that none of them have called her out on it

I'm often quite worried I'm a Julia. Saying things that make it obvious how self-centred I am. I'm not awful to my mum though!

Meg was an interesting new character last series - a mum who's down to earth, switched on, has all the same worries/responsibilities as the others yet... has her shit together, just does it and is fine, successful and manages it all well? (I mean obviously there are health issues in s3 - haven't watched more than 2 eps yet though)

In loads of ways that's reflective of loads of real-life people yet seems odd and weird in a sitcom!

Oh dear, that's classic Amanda!
Lalliebelle · 20/05/2021 17:09

If you don't know an Amanda, you are the Amanda! Yes, I know one although she's outwardly kinder.

Bigbluebuttons · 20/05/2021 17:13

Ugh I know an Amanda. Right down to the online boutique. She looked me up and down and immediately pegged me as not the right sort as I don’t have her level of grooming. We pointedly blank each other. Even her walk annoys me.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 20/05/2021 17:15

The Amanda I know is actually a genuinely lovely person - but slim, gorgeous, young-looking, very fit and athletic, wealthy, beautiful house, enviable lifestyle, great kids, devoted husband, beautiful home that she keep pristine - she kind of has to be a lovely person, or we'd all hate her!

Selkie1961 · 20/05/2021 17:17

I thought it was exaggerated but spot on. The QB at my dc's school was honestly so fond herself and so blessed!

Im liz the single mother. But i tried a bit harder to fit in :-/

I want to be a Meg Grin

Summercocktailsinthesnow · 20/05/2021 18:36

Is anyone going to own up????

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 20/05/2021 18:59

🤣

I think the problem with an Amanda is that she lacks self-awareness and would not realise she is an Amanda.

I'm sticking to being a mixture of Lynette & Susan...

Not answering the question sorry OP but regards character consistency, why does the northern mum ( I forget her name)have expensive lip fillers and possible nose job if she's always complaining about being skint? Love her no f*s given attitude tho
