Do you know an ‘Amanda‘ from Motherland?

I love motherland and this 3rd series has been the funniest imo 😀

Amanda and Liz are my faves, despite Amanda totally doing my head in at the same time 🤣

I wondered whether you know or knew anyone like Amanda? She seems a bit too far fetched!

Or any of the other characters?

I meant Liz sorry

whatsthestory123 · 20/05/2021 19:18

im a liz with my run away mouth
tbh i just would not bother with an Amanda
agree that Julia just wants some support and a big hug

ive now watched all three series twice bloody great

Xmasbaby11 · 20/05/2021 19:18

No. That's the only character that doesn't ring true to me. I can't think of anyone who is that type irl though it's portrayed a lot on tv / in books.

And I'm definitely not Amanda - more like Julia.

Yes, we had an Amanda at DC's primary school - she was sooooo perky! She even had an Ann!! I was a combination of Julia and Liz (but have found zJulia more selfish in the last series!)
Jahebejrjr · 20/05/2021 19:26

I’m Liz. Northern and liable to roll my eyes at school assemblies. Also don’t give a shite about what other people think of me.
I know an Amanda. Head permanently cocked to one side while feeling sorry for everyone else for not being as fucking perfect as her.

13579db · 20/05/2021 19:28

I reckon Ann will shock them all soon with something amazing happening in her life that will propel her to great success or something - they all look down on her sooo much yet she used to be global head of product at a pharma company didn't she?
Go Ann that's what I say. Hope she finds some confidence soon.

Plenty of Amanda's round here, but they aren't SAHM, they juggle everything but have au pairs and ugly husbands but really make you accountable for any slight oversight towards their child at a birthday party you host or at a school event you have tried to sort out

Tiresome alpha female mentality really exhausts me

picturesandpickles · 20/05/2021 19:47

Yes, there was a Amanda-ish person at our last primary. She would make the catty comments, in a sickly sweet voice with the tilted head. She was always worried about other people's children and talked about how difficult things were for other people.

picturesandpickles · 20/05/2021 19:48

And once invited me to a party and said 'don't worry, only the nice people will be there'. I sent apologies as I am not nice Grin

@MsMeNz

I'm basically Julia I think lol Harried corporate working mum. However I don't interact with any parents at school gates only if I must to org a play date usally via text. I don't know an Amanda per se but I know her type in the past and they were generally vacated of me as I didn't take their passive aggressive comments I'd just call them out or give them a raised eyebrow or eye roll. I have not play that game.
I'm sure you dress better!
Gymsmile21 · 20/05/2021 19:58

I don’t mix with school parents, in and out to collect my kids- is there one on there like that?

Everyone is talking about this, kids back at school and partner at work in 3 weeks so I think I’m going to binge watch this.

Winkywonkydonkey · 20/05/2021 19:58

Yes we have an Amanda. She holds up the single file queue to the classroom so she can talk to the teacher EVERY DAY about setting extra work for her DD to make sure she's 'extended' Hmm she makes sure she's the centre of the ptfa events and usually gets her way - if she wants her DD moved desk, the DD gets moved etc. And it's usually my DD who gets moved as a result to the freezing wind swept desk next to the open door.

ncgy · 20/05/2021 19:58

Well they are all very exaggerated but I know an Amanda type. I'm quite like Liz I've been told (not sure that's a good thing).

ncgy · 20/05/2021 19:59

What was nice in this series is that they showed you a more human/nicer side of Amanda & Julia.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/05/2021 19:59

I don't know an entire Amanda, but I recognise aspects of her in people I know.

I'm not like any of the characters in Motherhood, because I have a bog standard 9-5 public sector job that doesn't require any fabulousness or drama on my part. For a state school, they all seem very affluent!

ncgy · 20/05/2021 20:03

The Amanda I know is actually a genuinely lovely person - but slim, gorgeous, young-looking, very fit and athletic, wealthy, beautiful house, enviable lifestyle, great kids, devoted husband, beautiful home that she keep pristine - she kind of has to be a lovely person, or we'd all hate her!

Being an Amanda is not because you have a perfect life. You have to have the perfect life that's a facade & look down on everyone, etc. Or at least that's my interpretation.

picturesandpickles · 20/05/2021 20:04

Julia is monstrous I think, she is so selfish. Meg is the most annoying because she is happy Grin.

picturesandpickles · 20/05/2021 20:04

For a state school, they all seem very affluent! yes massive houses!

AnxiousFTMFriendlyAdvicePlease · 20/05/2021 20:09

Ann is awesome and should usurp Amanda if there is another series!

Twinkie01 · 20/05/2021 20:32

One of my friends looks like Amanda but is prettier, she does say things sometimes that you think 🙄 but it's not meant with any malice and she can have a good laugh at herself.

ChesterDraws4Sale · 20/05/2021 20:34

There’s an Amanda at our school. She only speaks to people who look a certain way or have the right connections. She’s not very nice at all, but is all tinkly laugh when her minions are around her.

MissConductUS · 20/05/2021 20:40

Motherland was recommended to me on another thread, as I love British TV programming. I'm in the US and I can watch it on Amazon Prime for a small fee. Based on these comments I'm starting to think that it's worth it.

I just want to shake her and tell her to get a grip!... She is awesome!
