Weird injuries from food

Last night I stabbed the roof of my mouth with a Dorito. It was bleeding for a good while and is still bloody sore this morning when I eat anything! Has anyone ever done that before? It's my first time being injured by a crisp 😂

What weird food injuries have you had?

Cracked a tooth eating almonds - dentist said whole almonds are one of the worst things for damaging teeth but it keeps him in a job! He said almonds should ONLY be eaten crushed or flaked but NEVER whole!

ottermadness · 19/05/2021 19:58

Cheese and tomato toastie sandwiches that you make with the machine that closes and seals them. Tomatoes like lava, minor burns every time!

Galaxyinmypocket · 19/05/2021 20:01

Scolded myself whilst mixing gravy and almost blinded myself by touching my eye after chopping chillis.

@MumofSpud I think choking is particularly distressing for people having to witness it. Oddly, with me being the person doing the choking it wasn't as bad probably because I don't remember lots of it - including vomiting on the poor neighbour who saved me

I quickly slurped an overflowing, boiling, boiling hot latte at soft play one time and seriously scalded my entire mouth, lips and tongue. It hurt so, so much- I immediately downed both my kids' entire slush puppies to ease it, which surprisingly really helped.

Fuck, it was so embarrassing too. The reason I slurped it was to stop it sloshing out and burning a kid, without thinking it may burn my mouth.

Sorry, I also hate the word slurp, but that is exactly what I did 😆

sausagepastapot · 19/05/2021 20:16

And yes latte is not food, but my burnt chin pizza incident was taken upthread, and I want to join in the fun 😝

FrangipaniBlue · 19/05/2021 20:19

I have partially erupted wisdom teeth. Had to have one removed after I got an abscess from a bit of peanut stuck between the tooth and flap of gum.

I don't each nuts very often anymore 😂

FrangipaniBlue · 19/05/2021 20:21

@CarolandDarryl

A friend of mines sister lost her sight temporarily after trying to boil an egg in the microwave. The egg exploded in her face after she took it out. Shock
I did exactly this but burned my arm!!!
onlyhereforthefood · 19/05/2021 20:37

Burnt my boob by dropping piping hot porridge down my vest top

NorthernChinchilla · 19/05/2021 20:53

Gashed my thumb, then a few days later my hand, on a particularly vicious ice cube.

FuckyouCovid21 · 19/05/2021 20:58

Massive cut on my thumb from peeling a hard boiled egg, got infected too

Lemonlady22 · 19/05/2021 21:02

Picked some wasabi from a buffet on holiday one year, thought it was guacamole...it was really hot, ran to drinks machine and swallowed a great big gulp of water....which in fact was cleaning fluid, now that helped!

utterflapdoodle · 19/05/2021 21:32

My Dad swallowed a bit of meat bone my Mum had inadvertently left in a homemade soup. It came out...um... sideways and did some serious damage.

He had to go to A&E to be stitched up then the district nurse had to come and change his dressing down below every few days. Shock Blush

WithIcePlease · 19/05/2021 21:37

I bit through my tongue once on a curry
I was so hungry! It swelled and bled so much that I had to go home from work as couldn't speak properly.
I felt such a fool. I told work I'd done it falling upstairs as felt silly saying my own fault
I felt the teeth meet inside my tongue. It was horrible

WithIcePlease · 19/05/2021 21:39

Just remembered- my hairdresser told me of her friend who had been boiling something in microwave and steam burnt her face shortly before her wedding. I can't remember if wedding cancelled but properly burnt with blisters and peeling etc

DrWankincense · 19/05/2021 21:45

Chipped front tooth eating sugared almonds.
Burnt my hand so many times with oil or touching food to see how hot it is...brain connecting to hand way too slowly.
Took the skin on top of my finger off cutting cheese. That was quite bloody.
Choked on a glass of OJ which then came out my nose. Unpleasant.

Fiercestcalm · 19/05/2021 21:54

Eating pizza and molten cheese came off and flopped onto my chin, leaving a very very nasty burn on my chin a day before an important interview....

MozzchopsThirty · 19/05/2021 21:56

I did similar with a crisp, it slit the back of my throat which then caused a haematoma that occluded my airway
I kept swallowing to breathe and it burst and I swallowed all the blood
It was hideous

It happens quite a lot to me with crisps, particularly walkers Thai sweet chilli
I try to eat softer crisps like chipsticks or bacon crispies now so I don't die Shock

Pinkflipflop85 · 19/05/2021 21:58

I got a rather large splinter in my hand from peeling a red onion. It really hurt and took a fair bit of prodding and digging to get it back out.

SpringLoadedJizz · 19/05/2021 22:03

The first time I tried to shuck oysters I managed to get a sharp splinter of oyster shell stuck into my finger right under my thumb nail. Was so painful and took me until the next day before I could get it out.

Badabingbadabum · 19/05/2021 22:06

Half a Hula Hoop has caused some bleeding gums. I also had a terrible incident where I tried not to sneeze while eating and managed to inhale a load of peas up my nose. Extremely unpleasant.

JellyBabiesFan · 19/05/2021 22:14

One winter at college I split my lip open trying to eat a Wispa bar. It was already cracked due to the cold and opening my mouth made it open right up. It was bleeding for a good 10 minutes.

Bloody chocolate addiction.

Recorditnow · 19/05/2021 22:28

I've got a permanent scar on my thumb after sneezing while peeling potatoes. Ouch.

sueelleker · 20/05/2021 10:01

I've also got a permanent scar on my thumb-from opening a corned beef can with the key. I use a can opener now.

Amdone123 · 20/05/2021 10:21

@sueelleker, yeah, those tins of corned beef should come with a government health warning. I buy sliced corned beef now.
