Weird injuries from food

Last night I stabbed the roof of my mouth with a Dorito. It was bleeding for a good while and is still bloody sore this morning when I eat anything! Has anyone ever done that before? It's my first time being injured by a crisp 😂

What weird food injuries have you had?

I cut my stomach while cutting an apple on the kitchen table. I was stood up and cutting towards me when the knife slipped. I needed stitches and the Dr didn't believe how I'd done it!

My friend had serious burns on her chin from eating hot pizza- the cheese and sauce slid off and she had sore blisters for weeks and still has scars.

A few years ago, I lived in a Mediterranean country. If you've lived in those sort of climates, you know about food and ants. Basically, never leave it lying around.

Put down a bag of crisps for about 10mins. Didn't realize it had been invaded. I had ant bites on lips and tongue.

@Latte40

This has happened a few times but injuring my thumb by peeling tangerines- separating the thumb nail from the nail bed slightly then getting stung by the juice. DH reckons it's a lie!!
Yes! This happened to me the other day too! Twice! I now get DH to do it, using pregnancy-induced feebleness as an excuse. Don't know what I'm going to do after giving birth. Eat apples, I suppose.

Was licking out a Cadbury's creme egg and got cramp in my tongue. Fuck that hurt.

Ate three packets of monster munch pickled onion in a row. The next day the entire lining of my mouth peeled off!

What's in them that makes that happen?!

Salt and vinegar???

Amdone123 · 19/05/2021 09:56

I started reading this thread laughing my head off.....now, am not so sure ! Some are life threatening, but I keep imagining the headlines.....
Mine's not from digesting food, but my sister always laughs at the time I remembered we had Macflurries in the freezer. I got up so fast I nearly twisted my ankle to get my grubby hands on one.

Kiffers · 19/05/2021 10:01

This isn’t quite the fault of the food but I once bit into a sandwich really enthusiastically, not realising that my finger was also in my mouth (on top of the sandwich). I don’t know how I managed it (I’ve just tried again) but it bloody hurt. It happened at work and I still feel embarrassed to this day!!

RagzReturnsRebooted · 19/05/2021 10:03

Many crisp injuries and sharp crusts under nails.
Not quite food, but I burned my hand on the fridge. The DCs still mock me for that one.

ThirtyCharacterUsernamesOnly30 · 19/05/2021 10:14

Was a bit drunk. Read something online about thinly sliced potatoes and microwaving them to make crisps. Used the thin slicer thing on the box grater to slice the potato. Got near end of potato and should have stopped slicing. Sliced tip of index finger. Omg the blood! Still have the scar now but luckily the intermittent pain in it stopped after about 3 years.

StressyMcStressFace · 19/05/2021 10:22

My injury was from a Dorito too. Didn't chew it properly and swallowed it. One of the large chunks got stuck and injured my oesophagus in several places all the way down. Subsequently the injuries got infected and I ended up with in bed with a raging temperature, weak and unable to eat for two weeks! Two courses of antibiotics sorted me out Grin

Seeline · 19/05/2021 10:23

Trying to roll back the plastic cover on a cucumber whilst still holding the knife I was using to slice it. The wrapping suddenly shifted and I managed to slice my hand - blood everywhere!

Frymetothemoon · 19/05/2021 10:25

@LaMadrilena

I cut myself on a particularly crusty baguette the other day. Not on the knife, but on the actual crust.
I've done that too!

I've done this on a crust of a particularly vicious slice of sourdough. I bled loads, like a sacrifice to the god of baked goods.

CarolandDarryl · 19/05/2021 10:26

A friend of mines sister lost her sight temporarily after trying to boil an egg in the microwave. The egg exploded in her face after she took it out. Shock

Orangesand · 19/05/2021 10:27

I love those co op salt and vinegar kettle chips but they always make me break out in a sweat!

I once got a seed from a kiwi fruit stuck in the hole of my tongue piercing... it was agony! I haven't eaten one since

poppym12 · 19/05/2021 10:28

Stabbed myself just below the navel whilst trying to get the core out of a parsnip.

Orangesand · 19/05/2021 10:29

Also once had an ice lolly stick to my lip because it was so cold. Took the skin off

Bathplug · 19/05/2021 10:32

A quorn fake chicken dipper thing put me in hospital. I even scored a ride in an ambulance on blue lights as well for the shits and giggles.

Turns out that yes, quorn allergies are a thing. Yes you are more likely to be allergic to quorn if you are allergic to penicillin (mould allergy cross reactive), and yes you can eat quorn one day and then the next day be hideously allergic to it.

Serves me right for picking at the kids leftovers.

SirenSays · 19/05/2021 10:36

Oh OP I can relate to that. I always got burnt by my Nanas awful jam tarts. Rock hard and hotter than lava.

It's surprising how many people get fish bones stuck in their throats. I've seen some whoppers removed!

As for my own injuries, I had a piece of butternut squash skin stuck underneath my nail.

Burned away my mouth after drunkenly eating pineapples. That was an unpleasant hangover.

I ripped a filling out with a drumstick lolly as a kid.

Last Christmas I accidentally sucked a candy cane into a sharp deadly weapon and sliced out a chunk from the roof of my mouth with it.

Scarby9 · 19/05/2021 10:39

Tipped the last fragments from a packet of crisps into my mouth - and got a bit in one eye. It really stung.

LindaEllen · 19/05/2021 10:41

I ate an entire bag of sharing skips the other night and it feels like there's no skin left on the roof of my mouth. Won't be doing that again (even though I had a great time!)

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 19/05/2021 10:54

@Ostryga

Took all the skin off the inside of my mouth after eating a whole bag of Co-op Chardonnay vinegar crisps.
Haha, I've done this too!! They are the best salt and vinegar crisps I have yet to find though!!
Luckingfovely · 19/05/2021 10:57

This is simultaneously the funniest and scariest thread! I'm not sure if I'm starving or on a diet now Grin

HitsAndMrs · 19/05/2021 11:10

@Gumbo

I came very close to death recently from eating a marshmallow Hmm. It got fully lodged in my throat, Heimlich didn't work, I stopped breathing and an ambulance was called. No marshmallow will ever pass my lips again!
Omg! What happened? Back blows? Chocking scares me to death.
