What time will DH and DD be back?

Next door are having a party, it's quite funny to listen to

Frownette · 19/06/2021 20:51

They're playing the pina colada song and singing badly. Think it may be an end of term party!

Frownette · 19/06/2021 23:38

Oh no the pina colada song is on again. Earlier someone was screaming Charlie, Charlieeeee where's my towel? I don't think I'll get masses of sleep tonight

Silkiecats · 19/06/2021 23:43

They are back now and we had a KFC.

Silkiecat has been playing the piano again. She is just having a rest here.

Beautiful little Silkiecat

MissConductUS · 20/06/2021 00:25

Silkiecat is looking lovely as usual. She and our Dgirlcat could be littermates.

The men managed to get the burgers off the grill just minutes before it starting pouring rain, so dinner was saved.

Frownette, I am probably spoiled by the quiet of living in the woods, but listening to the pina colada song and drunken singing until all hours would make me a bit cross.

Since it is now after midnight in the UK, I'd like to wish a happy Father's Day to all (looking at you, @SimonJT) dads who might be reading this thread or to their lovely wives who put up with them. Honestly, DH has always been a brilliant father and so utterly reliable and there for the kids that we are lucky to have him.

I realized that it's been a while since I updated you all on my British TV watching obsession. I'm currently watching season three of Unforgotten and am in awe of Nicola Walker as DCI Cassie Stuart. Sanjeev Bhaskar as DI Sunny Kahn is really good too. One thing that's nice about it not being a period drama is that it gives me a better sense for life now in the UK.

We had drinks outdoors with friends in their garden earlier this evening, desperately trying not to get rained on. We each ended up with individual umbrellas as well as the large umbrella over the table as our backs were getting wet. My friend took pictures for her COVID album. She is documenting mad experiences like tonight’s for future generations.

Sodding came to me for an excellent pre-bedtime cuddle, but disappeared off to put himself to bed just after midnight. I had too much caffeine today, so am only just feeling tired.

Sainsburys did not deliver any oven chips with our grocery delivery. I will have to go out for some tomorrow (later today?).

Silkiecats · 20/06/2021 01:30

DH started Father's Day with a bite from Silkiecat who was cross he had stroked her too much. Then he came to bed with me. Then Silkiecat howled at him to come back for more cuddles so off he's gone. Grin

Just worked out tomorrow we will have 15 cakes between us 4 though there are worse problems to have - we have chelsea buns, macarons, scones with jam and cream, fresh fruit tarts and chocolate brownies and smoked salmon sandwiches and cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches.

Am watching single wives on Netflix and very glad I don't have to date. Hope everyone who is celebrating tomorrow has a good Father's Day. We are very lucky to have DH apart from Silkiecat who says DH is very lucky to have me. DH agrees with her.

Frownette · 20/06/2021 03:45

Silkie amongst your menagerie I am absolutely sure you are the leading lady.

I have now bought one white shirt (Thomas Pink), 2 silk bras, and some levis. Time to stop shopping. The students have gone to bed but it'll take a while to get the pina colada song out of my head

Silkiecats · 20/06/2021 05:38

I think Silkiecat is the leading lady here but that's fine with me Grin

That sounds very glamourous Frownette Hope you managed to get some sleep or joined them in dancing.

We have very quiet neighbours.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/06/2021 06:46

To those who celebrate Father's day - have a great day!
To those who don't - have a great day anyway.
Silkiecat is lovely as usual.

Woke up at 6 to 26°C, spent an hour checking the plants and will now have my usual breakfast of two big mugs of coffee - black with real sugar. No food at this unearthly hour.

HelenaJustina · 20/06/2021 07:16

I woke up at 5am thinking I’d had a lovely lie-in, until I checked the time! Got up at 6.30am and have messaged my Dad. Waiting for some children to surface so we can celebrate with DH before Mass. DH lost his Dad when he was in his 20s, he has definitely found the day easier since we had our own DC.
@MissConductUS they have x-rayed it. They have prescribed prescription strength anti-inflammatories and we have a physio referral, just waiting for the appointment to come through.

IWanderedLonely · 20/06/2021 08:32

Miss they filmed an episode of Unforgotten where I live - not sure which one though as I've never watched it.

IWanderedLonely · 20/06/2021 08:34

DH has gone for a run. I may go later if I can summon up any motivation. I think my running days are coming to an end.

Portlandia · 20/06/2021 08:40

I've let the cat out twice and she's sitting on my bed for the third time this morning purring (I'm also back in bed for the third time this morning....).

Champagneforeveryone · 20/06/2021 08:43

iwanderedlonely , I had a prolapsed disc last summer and have been unable to run since. Instead I've taken up walking, something which I did anyway as we have dogs but I actually make a point of going different places and setting time aside for it now.

The biggest change I can see is that my knees are happier and there are more pub lunches involved Wink

Frownette · 20/06/2021 08:52

@Portlandia oh yeah me too, I've had several unsuccessful attempts to get up but then slink back off to bed

MissConductUS · 20/06/2021 09:42

I woke up ungodly early and can't go back to sleep, so I've fed the cats and am doing a bit of web surfing before I get on the stationary bike.

I don't know if I'll ever run again. I'll have to see how things are after my surgery in a few weeks. I miss it, but I rather like the stationary bike and weight lifting. I don't have to worry about the weather, I can watch TV on my Kindle while I ride and I have more upper body strength than I used to. From a medical perspective, as long as I get 150 minutes per week of vigorous exercise I'll get the same reduction in all-cause mortality. It's possible that 45 years of running was my limit.

I like it when the house is this quiet.

Silkiecats · 20/06/2021 09:51

DH and Silkiecat are still fast asleep.

Silkiecats · 20/06/2021 13:22

DH and Silkiecat woke up at 11am. Now have the afternoon teas but the cake shop forgot the big cake order so we have 9 small cakes instead or a big cake made up of 7 small cakes. So now we have 17 cakes.

DS was very happy before when I joked he would need to eat 13 cakes by himself. He said wabbit would help.

Frownette · 20/06/2021 13:48

Please stop mathematical cakes my head hurts.

I may do @Sunbird24 virgin pina colada (still got the song in my head). All I'd need is a tin of pineapple and coconut milk and some ice.

Someone was trying to tell me earlier that they'd been told my mother was my mother. I sort of muttered good luck with that. He was quite enthused though and said "but I speak to her regularly! I didn't know!" I wasn't quite as happy and just said keep her busy then

IWanderedLonely · 20/06/2021 14:37

I went for a run. My problem isn't injury, it's lack of time. For various reasons my caring duties have increased significantly over the last 10 months ( elderly relative and grandchildren) so I can't run as regularly as I used to, then when I do go I struggle and get frustrated - viscious circle.
In happier dull news the grandchildren are watching Ghostbusters & loving it.

Squirrel26 · 20/06/2021 20:56

My parents are having trouble with their 100ft hose. (They bought an 100ft hose so they could use the back garden tap to water the front garden.) Apparently the end has fallen off and they have to send it back. Surely an 100ft hose is REALLY heavy to have delivered? I thought they had gone to the garden centre to buy it (they are ALWAYS going to the garden centre). Apparently not.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/06/2021 21:13

That is a 30 m hose - they weight of ours times 3 - not that heavy but difficult to handle. What kind of end has fallen off?

Squirrel26 · 20/06/2021 21:21

I'm not really sure. I assumed the bit that connects it to the tap but I might be wrong.

My mum said 'all the plants will die'. I asked why she couldn't use a watering can? She said it was too heavy but maybe she could manage a half full one (the garden is probably 5m by 10m; we're not talking vast expanses of lawn here).
