It's a lovely day here so I am taking another day of annual leave. I've just paid some bills and will do some gardening while it's still cool. There's an artsy village a bit north of us with some interesting shops so we'll probably go up there for lunch and a walk around. DH has taken the day off as well and needs to stay mobile.

I'm having some second thoughts about the internship DS has been offered. They want it to carry on in the fall after he's back at uni, but he'll have a full plate. Being a residence assistant takes time, then his courses, he'll be rowing crew, and it's his last year so we want him to have fun. While the money would be nice he doesn't really need it. I've advised him to tell them that when he's back at uni that will have to come first and he won't always be available. I think he agrees. We'll see what they say.

Sodding came home smelling of perfume this afternoon. Hmm DS1’s bedroom overlooks the gardens at the back. He says several of our neighbours call him over for a chat and stroke when he’s doing his rounds.

The Japanese restaurant had a table this evening so we went out instead of ordering a delivery in. The waitress I usually speak to on the ‘phone said it was fun to see who eats what, as our order rarely changes.

MissConductUS · 18/06/2021 23:22

We had our visit to the village. It's Beacon, NY if anyone wants to give it a google. It's a beautiful drive along the Hudson River, with the mountains in view.

We had a lovely lunch in a cafe, of which there are many, then did some shopping. The place has kind of a hipster vibe with shops selling natural soaps, soy candles and bespoke petfood. There were lots of people with small dogs. We visited a glass studio that has some lovely things but didn't buy anything.

The men are making pizza. I noticed that my cacti are starting to flower. They really look good this year. They're at least 15 years old.

Sodding, any guesses on how he picked up the perfume smell?

Helena, how did the blood draw go? Is this a regular test?

soddingkitten why the little..! Obviously has been out carousing with ladies. You'll find lipstick on his cat collar next.

MissC that looks so beautiful and tranquil. But nooooo don't mention blood tests, I'm about a month overdue for my regular one, hope Helena not in the same boat! I just feel a bit grumpy about it all, it's like failing an exam

soddingkitten · 18/06/2021 23:45

Lovely Neighbour gives him cuddles sometimes, so possible transfer there MissC. It’s also possible he’s comfortable enough with our neighbours on the other side or 2 doors down now that the women or daughters there can pick him up. He was a bit shy at first due to being a lockdown kitten, but he has blossomed socially since this spring with more regular visitors to our garden and street WhatsApp group notoriety. Many of our neighbours tell me he visits them.

Silkiecats · 19/06/2021 00:33

I've just woken up. DH had lots of work to do today and I'm guessing he is now crashed out with Silkiecat as its completely silent. Both kids fell asleep as soon as school was over but then woke up for Chinese and went back to sleep.

DD has a haircut tomorrow and will then meet friends in London. It's Father's Day here on Sunday but the forecast is rain and DH said he didn't want to go out in rain and to go out another day. So I've ordered lots of lovely afternoon tea and cakes in.

Silkiecats · 19/06/2021 02:06

DH just woke up and said I'm coming to bed with you now. Then Silkiecat woke up and told him off. So guess who he is back with now?

I'm just having lemon squash and fizzy water. Will now watch more PenguinTown on Netflix.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/06/2021 08:26

Hot day here - I've just finished with the flowers and I've put an air matress out for me to lie down on in the shade.

DD's uni sent a mail announcing additional vacc. slots.

We will have salad and köfte today.

HelenaJustina · 19/06/2021 09:33

@MissConductUS she is having some investigations for an ongoing hip problem. Due to the presentation, they have to rule out anything really nasty (like leukaemia) the last time they did that was 6 months ago so the paediatrician asked for the tests to be repeated. DC2 was very brave, and as this was done at a Children’s outpatient clinic rather than gp surgery, it was a much better experience than last time.

Frownette · 19/06/2021 12:14

Father's day always makes me sad now. Loads of tea sounds good.

I need to decide a youngster's next hair colour, he says I've got until the end of the month to make up my mind. He naturally has hair same colour as Boris. I think perhaps a burnt orange.

I've just spritzed the room with Caribbean vetiver and sandalwood so it smells nice

MissConductUS · 19/06/2021 13:13

Helena, have they done any type of imaging study, like an MRI or CAT scan?

Tomorrow is Father's day here too. I lost my dad about six years ago. We have cards and some gifts for DH.

Frownette, how did you become the hair color consultant?

Rugby done for the day for my rugby tots, my son and me, as an extra bonus the delivery time on the correct size oven is only two weeks and they were willing to refund the difference which was nice of them and a bit of a relief.

Frownette · 19/06/2021 14:44

@MissConductUS we're just fond of each other in our young/middle aged way. So he says I have to choose. I like him best in pink to be frank.

I really have to get home soon. Only thing I have on me is trifle and that is not substantial.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/06/2021 15:03

There's a Turkish wedding vis à vis and the bride is just danced and played out of the house - another thing I missed.

MissConductUS · 19/06/2021 16:36

I've just watered the plants on the deck as it's going to be pretty hot here today. DH and DS have done out to do a shop at Whole Foods.

Simon, was the stove you ordered too wide or too narrow? Good news that the appliance dealer will take it back for full credit.

We have some appliance news too. In years past we've been able to rent a small fridge/microwave appliance for DS at uni. They put it in the room over the summer then pick it up at the end of the academic year. The service doesn't seem to be available for this coming fall. I don't know if it's because of the appliance shortage or if they don't want people in the dorms delivering them because of covid. Our current fallback plan is to order him a small fridge from Amazon, which they'll ship to him. It's a bit more bother because he'll have to get it from the mail room to his dorm and then get rid of it somehow at the end of the year. He really wants one though to keep drinks and snacks in. I have one at uni too.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus, that sounds lovely.

It was a nice day here for a walk - not too hot or tipping down with rain.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/06/2021 17:41

36°C in the shade here
DD went out and bought a fan and ice cream

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/06/2021 18:01

@Nydj it is and happened often pre-plague! I never understand how the brides manage to enter the cars with those dresses!
I had a 'Wohnzimmertrauung' - a surprise for my DMIl for her 75th birthday.

mathanxiety · 19/06/2021 18:24

I have a small fridge currently parked in DD4's room, along with a small microwave, which is tucked under her bed. They were both DS's in his undergrad days, and DD3 used them when her university was in-person. There's no word yet on whether she'll be returning to campus or doing online classes for the upcoming semester and she's hoping to do a semester abroad in 2022 so she won't need them then anyway. In other words, DD4 may have to put up with the fridge for a while longer.

DD4 has been mightily annoyed about the use of her room for fridge storage, but there's nowhere else it could go.

We have hot but not especially humid weather here (90F+), with storms expected on Sunday, followed by a week of much milder weather.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/06/2021 18:30

It started rumbling and the wind has picked up.

MissConductUS · 19/06/2021 18:44

Prok, it's only about 33 degrees C here today, it's quite unusual for Berlin to be hotter than New York.

Math, what we liked about the rental service was that the fridge just appeared and disappeared. If we have to spend $150 to buy one on Amazon he'll just have to deal with it next year. I'll call the residence life office on Monday to see if they have any advice. Since he's going to be an RA he should be getting an extra large room. He had his own bathroom last year.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/06/2021 18:51

Miss depends where in Berlin you are. I'm in the center, built up area with the underground running beneath so warmer than at the outskirts where there are lakes and forests.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/06/2021 18:58

.... and it started to rain

SimonJT · 19/06/2021 19:07

@MissConductUS It was too wide, I ordered the 110cm one rather than 100cm.

Silkiecats · 19/06/2021 19:15

We got new scales, tried them on carpet and I weighed 38.5kgs and DH weighed 55kgs so very wrong. DH has tried himself on the kitchen floor as that has tiles and is flat and he says its right but he is not revealing his weight.

Its 15C and overcast here but I like it that temperature. DH is just off to get DD from London, Silkiecat will not be happy though she's had him all day and all night for cuddles.
