I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Welcome back, @SimonJT, fellow fruit picker. I think you're on exactly the right thread.

Um no, @SimonJT, you do indeed seem to be on EXACTLY the right thread. Grin

Assembled my new Hemmnes chest of drawers earlier without having to take any of it apart because I hadn't followed the instructions correctly. Feeling pretty damn smug about that, tbh. Now I need to go and redistribute my stuff to fill it up.

Spudlet · 12/06/2021 20:19

@Sunbird24 That’s a lot to process in one day, hope you’re ok.

@Squirrel26 Dogs are odd creatures. What more can you say?

Spuddog has put some weight on, which is good. Unfortunately we know this because we were back at the vets again today, as he went hopping lame last night, with what turns out to be cellulitis. He is feeling very sad, but is improving already with an injection and some medication. He’s still hobbling around on three legs, but he is eating and drinking, starting to try and dot his poorly paw down, got himself up onto the sofa earlier, and was quite annoyed that DH went for a walk without him this evening 🙄 So I’m hopeful that we haven’t quite seen the last of him yet. He’s currently asleep in the squashy but filthy basket that usually lives in the car, as opposed to the tasteful wicker one that usually lives in the living room, as it’s easier for him to get in and out of on three legs.

Honestly, we’ve gone from barely ever seeing the vet to being regulars in the space of a month!

Just been reading the thread about non-fiction books, which has made me want to re-read Cider with Rosie. My favourite ever book by a mile.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/06/2021 20:59

DD just beat me at Qwirkle. She always thinks three steps ahead of me.

It's really windy here - I had to move my little Gingko trees to a more sheltered place.

MissConductUS · 12/06/2021 21:11

The BBC News hour is on my NPR station and I'm listening to an item about a Danish football player who became ill during a match with Finland, which they lost. I find this exquisitely dull. I am, however, having an excellent cup of coffee.

I've had a lovely two hour nap and the men are making mac and cheese.

I'm sorry to hear about Spuddog having another medical challenge. We all become medical frequent flyers at some point. I ran without a problem for over 40 years and now have seen three orthopedists in the last few months.

I think my neighbours believe fences have some kind of sound proofing quality, it’s like living next door to a club 18-30 hotel

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/06/2021 21:37

Miss I remember very fondly the day I was standing at the ironing board ironing my DF's shirts listening to a football commentary on BFBS and suddenly realising that I fully understood what they were saying Smile

HelenaJustina · 13/06/2021 10:16

@MissConductUS thank you for the hat tip! Not sure I deserve it but very welcome all the same. As one of 9 children myself, 4 still seems a bit light weight, I certainly don’t get any sympathy from my DMum if I claim to be busy!

Squirrel26 · 13/06/2021 10:22

I find watching football quite soothing, in the same way I find watching fish swimming around in a fish tank quite soothing. Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/06/2021 11:35

Squirrel
I remember a NL-ger world cup match, where I had to leave the flat and walk around the block to calm down and I yell at the TV - so nothing soothing about football for me - unlike snooker, which I find calming.

Muddydoor · 13/06/2021 13:12

I just had a really nice meal. Home-made oven chips, two fish fingers (also oven cooked) and microwave steamed vegetables.

MissConductUS · 13/06/2021 13:57

I'm about to head off to in person church services for the first time since March 2020. We'll have to wear masks inside and capacity will be limited to 50%, which shouldn't be a problem.

I'm oddly excited to be going back for real.

I have finally caught up with the thread.

@Spudlet, I am sorry poor spud dog has so many health issues.
@Sunbird24 congratulations on your award which, I am sure was richly deserved and I’m so sorry about your former colleague.
@MissConductUS, good to see some progress on your forthcoming op. Those strawberries look lovely!

I have the house to myself night now for the first time in about a year and don’t know what to do. I think I will catch up on gardeners world episodes.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/06/2021 19:20

Nydj I hope you enjoyed your day on your own and did not waste it on hosework!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/06/2021 19:24

housework - (would hosework have to do with gardening or tights?)

Squirrel26 · 13/06/2021 20:39

I've heard a lot recently about my parent's new 100 foot hose.

I think they are doing hosework.

MissConductUS · 13/06/2021 21:20

I think we have 100 foot hoses too, but it's a two acre property. Smile DH used the one we keep on the deck today to help clean out the gutter over the deck, which was clogged with those stringy things the trees drop this time of year. He's now walking without the cane, but I thought cleaning out the gutter was pushing it.

Church this morning was great, so good to be back in person with music and everything. Our lovely priest cried during her sermon because she was so happy to see us all. I think she was afraid no one would return after over a year on Zoom. We all chatted outside afterward without masks on. There were lots of hugs. Smile

The men are making BBQ pork ribs for dinner with leftover mac & cheese, so food of the gods tonight.

I'm glad to see you're caught up, @Nydj, and the strawberries are delicious.

I went to the nursery and bought some new plants for the deck with DS, so pictures will follow at some point.

Parents absolutely do not have a 2 acre property. They wanted to be able to run the hose from the back garden tap, through the house and water the front garden. I feel they may have over-hosed themselves.

I also feel like my entire family was absolutely made for this thread.

Nydj · 13/06/2021 22:01

I didn’t do any housework or any hosework while I had the house to myself Grin. Although I have did do some hosework later on as my plants were very thirsty.
I am glad to see that your DH has started making some progress on the papers @Prokupatuscrakedatus - time to celebrate!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/06/2021 22:05

@Nydj - I do have the table back and the clothes airer, but he has managed to fill a sofa, a bench, 2 of those Lack tables and the steps to the terasse with the papers he did not shred.
Luckily none of them things I use, so ....

Nydj · 13/06/2021 22:35

Silver linings, Prok, silver linings

theDudesmummy · 13/06/2021 22:47

I have also had a nice meal, DH's homemade makanek sausages (a Lebanese lamb sausage which I persuaded him to make although he doesn't like them, he had a different type of, also his own homemade, sausage). He cooked them on a wood barbeque and I had mine with salad and sheep milk yoghurt.

mathanxiety · 14/06/2021 00:03

I got my car back from the repair shop yesterday afternoon - I ended up calling them, and the teenager they had left on duty said, 'Oh yeah, it's ready', as if it had been sitting there ready for hours. Good thing I called. I had to walk to get it during the mother and father of a thunderstorm but the tree cover is so dense here that I didn't get too wet. I drove around for a bit to test out the brakes and they were fine. The total bill came to exactly what the estimate was, which was a relief.

Did some potting after buying some sun loving annuals at Walmart this afternoon. The previous annuals I bought were struggling in the sunlight so I moved them to a shadier spot.

The archdiocese here has thrown all caution to the wind as of Friday, so no masks required at Mass today, but I was among the dozen or so wearing one all the same. The Delta variant has appeared here.

Star to Spuddog.
