So tired today I barely slept last night. Worried about one of ds friends mum and feel like I need to help, but the only way I could would push her away. But then I don't know if my work clouds my judgment sometimes. Been tossing and turning all night.

ISaySteadyOn · 03/06/2021 07:56

@justasking111, hope all goes well. Flowers

smallandimperfectlyformed · 03/06/2021 08:24

Ooh LivinLaVidaLoki that sounds hard. I am not trying to pry so won't ask anything in case it is related to what you do in a professional capacity, especially as you just said you were worried your work clouds your judgement! Hope you feel more rested now. I am pissed off today, was supposed to be viewing a flat for a home exchange but the woman hasn't responded to my text that I sent yesterday so don't think it's happening. So instead at the age of 39 I will be moving back in with my mum, not exactly how I envisioned my life turning out all those years ago!

110APiccadilly · 03/06/2021 09:07

All the best @justasking111.

It's so hard @LivinLaVidaLoki when you think someone needs help but don't know how to help.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/06/2021 13:35

I just saw a headline on my BBC news app that said no countries will be added to Green list today.

I found it odd that its only reported on the BBC as "the BBC understands....." following Matt Hancock suggesting we exercise caution.

There isnt anything in the comment to suggest that no other countries will be added and literally no other news network is picking up on it. Seems really very odd.

Waiting for announcements is bad enough but the constant drip drip drip of speculation is beyond frustrating. Especially given the rampant speculation about countries being added the last few days.

If that does happen and Portugal goes Amber then TBH I suspect the whole thing is just bollocks political posturing, The EU have added us to their no travel list so we do the same to them.

All these people bleating on about waiting a bit longer.....how much longer do you think the aviation industry will last to enable them to go away when they feel ready.

MercyBooth · 03/06/2021 14:26

I think there is an element of them wanting people to stay in the UK and spend there money here.

Hello all - I lost you for a while, real life got a bit crazy (got an unexpected job, no more SAHM time for me!) and I lost track of the threads.

Hope all is well with you ADs.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 03/06/2021 18:52

Well done SirSamuelVimes hope you are enjoying your new job. Went to the funfair today which was lovely and bar signs telling us there was hand sanitizer available (normally in front of an empty bottle Grin) and social distancing markers which everyone enjoyed it was just like any other fair trip. Was naughty and shared a lift at the train station and asked the lady if she minded - she said no, we are over the worst of the pandemic and later on said she was a district nurse and had managed the whole way through. She was a lovely sensible Nigerian middle aged woman who gave me the impression she had had enough with the theatrics involved

I think there's a lot of that.

We're away in the UK as we often would be, but spending less because we CBA to pre-book and second-guess the layers of terms and conditions. The sites/ accomodations are busy albeit within affected capacity, but traffic quiet. A lot seem to just be pleased to be away from home and not motivated to do touristy stuff. We naturally do a lot of outdoors stuff, but are sticking only to that this time.

It's all going crazy on the rona board. Lockdown and school closures. We have just counted our losses and given up on our European holiday and booked uk for August .

Is this where we are heading? My anxiety can't take it.

Taswama · 04/06/2021 22:46

Congratulations on the new job @SirSamuelVimes .

Fingers crossed for you @justasking111

I very much enjoyed the 'pointless covid rules thread' recently, I think my favourite was masks on in the office, unless on a video call.

We are just back from Cornwall where we have been most May half terms for several years. I have never seen it as busy.

BogRollBOGOF · 04/06/2021 23:10

I'm not far from the big breakout in the secondary school towards a month ago. It all stayed very localised and while a small number of neighbourhoods showed high rates, they have very quickly dropped off again.

I just can't buy the fear. It's the start of summer, the healthiest time of year. People naturally do more outside and let the fresh air in. The vaccinations are working at protecting older and more vulnerable people and young people still awaiting vaccination are unlikely to suffer much more than a normal range bad cold. Rates probably will go up in the autumn and hopefully all adults will have had the opportunity to be vaccinated by then.

I've heard the boy/ government cry wolf so many times, but a flurry of neighourhoods leaping exponentially from 2 to 4 to 8 cases and a general flatlining really doesn't warrant half of the hysteria out there.

The higher rates of Bolton, Leicester etc are proof that lockdown doesn't work. They're areas with structural issues that spread the virus despite all the restrictions and having additional restrictions last summer didn't solve the problem. The government need to stop flagellating all of us and look at areas that have worked in a targeted, community based way and respond to what the issues are in those areas and work with people. Not bully them. Not insult them. Make support accessible and listen to them.

It's been bloody good having a few days away. I've stuck my nose in briefly but jave swerved that board. I've told DH to turn off the news at the point of a Long Covid Sad Face Story. Very sad for her, but why should we all be forced to live like we have Long Covid? We're already in a much better place than we were on the winter. We need to live again. Properly live. (With faces)

Thanks for all the good wishes guys xxx.

Busy half term, our council said the litter collection over the bank holiday was 23 tonnes. 3 X the normal litter collection. The A55 main road into N Wales was gridlocked Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday it has been crazily busy with visitors because of the good weather. Getting them out and home this weekend will be a nightmare, we have had a fair few pile ups and road closures this week.

We are in the news, covid variant hotspot, been told to get tested even if we feel well, opened mass testing centres. One set of neighbours went off to Scotland and phoned us here to tell us to get tested wtf. We have all had both jabs in the cul de sac one neighbour actually went and it was closed. It was closed because everyone is refusing to go because we have all decided it is bloody silly. Anyway OH said to neighbour if the unreliable test says positive you are locked away for ten days then. That made him rethink it and decide to avoid too

It has not put the tourists off that is for certain.

SirSamuelVimes · 05/06/2021 08:51

Thanks all.

We're not going abroad at the moment (as in, last several years Sad ) just down to cost but I am so gutted and furious for people who have booked holidays this summer. Like you say, Bog, it's the best time of year health wise and the vulnerable (and most of the non vulnerable as well!) are vaccinated! How can then justify closing so much off still??

justasking111 · 05/06/2021 08:58

What's irritating me is the sport football matches abroad which appear to bugger it up for everyone. They're obsessed with getting sports again thousands of folk cheek by jowl yet face masks, social distancing in place in the real world. Can't help but think it's about money 💰💰 rather than mental health

Stuffin · 05/06/2021 09:24

You would have thought they would have learnt from last year when they were so painfully slow in opening up over the hot summer months when most things are outside and everyone has windows and doors open. But no here we are again postponing it and ruining the best time to relax before autumn hits.

I was getting to the simmering with anger stage this time last year. The cameraderie feeling in the first few weeks had died, the streets had emptied of people walking. Hope fading of the DCs getting back to school. Some people busying around with no time to meet, and others too afraid. It was fucking lonely and bloody peopled out.

The bit where I'm feeling better is that people have more appetite to get out and do what they can and there's far less sanctimony. The order of restrictions easing has become a little bit more logical such as getting outdoor sport back earlier.

With the vaccination (and Europe seems to have got into gear now) and the testing, I can't see how it's so much more hazardous this year to last year. Many of the cases we know of are assymptomatic and would have been under the radar. It would be interesting if data recorded by test only and test + symptoms.

I was getting to the simmering with anger stage this time last year.

My DH used to watch the daily briefings and I was so angry each day that they just didn't open anything up but just regurgitated the figures.

I really feel for the people and industries that are going to be screwed over again if they keep delaying things.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 05/06/2021 12:03

Haven't posted for a while but just jumping in with a random thought. For a while now we keep being told that being vaccinated doesn't necessarily stop someone spreading the virus. If the next goal is to get 12-15 year olds vaccinated then the only reason for that is to stop it spreading in schools as that age group aren't significantly affected themselves. So does that mean we will now be told it does stop the spread? And what will that mean?
