Snobbiest places in the UK?

Following from similar threads about overrated and underrated places in the UK... where are the snobbiest places in the UK?

From the places I've been, I'd say Harrogate, Oxford, and the rest of the Cotswolds.

OP posts:
Rosehip10 · 15/05/2021 22:43

West Bridgford is snobby and has a hatred of Nottingham.

Killergigglebunnies · 15/05/2021 22:44

@PictureNest Wigmore is just another estate with detached houses. Don’t know how anyone can be snobby there, they have an Asda. Nothing to crow about.

Loopy22 · 15/05/2021 22:44

Waitrose..

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 15/05/2021 22:45

@BlowDryRat

Harpenden. I went to a baby group there once as a relatively young mum. I have never felt so judged and sneered at in my life.

Grin at Luton being snobby.

Indeed. I've always been under the impression that Luton is a place to avoid (unless you are after cheap flights to Eastern Europe or Southern Spain!)
Newstepchild · 15/05/2021 22:45

Definitely Edinburgh and as @Pink98 says, Edinburgh University is unbelievable.

tonimitchell · 15/05/2021 22:50

Bloody Booths!

My friends spends a fortune in there on gin soaked salmon ect.. you can’t tell the difference!

Apparently it was VERY civilised in lock down 😂😂

BobbidyBob · 15/05/2021 22:51

I came on to see if anyone had said Harrogate and it was in the OP Grin

Angelica789 · 15/05/2021 22:52

Bath is horrendous for snobbery. Some really rude and superior people there.

I work with big money finance types, upper middle class climbers and landed gentry and they are ALL fucking massive snobs. The old money crew just hide it better is all.

ArnottsUnderpass · 15/05/2021 23:01

South Solihull definitely. I mean I'm from a posh part of the north but it just something else.

Solihull South isn't posh. Its new money judgy fur coat no knickers area. Lots of bleach blonde fake tan look at me women, braying men. Its so fake.

North Solihull is an entirely different prospect!!

Ilovelblue · 15/05/2021 23:02

I've stayed in the Harpenden area a few times and was almost speechless when a local person, knowing we came from the north west of England, asked if everyone "in the north" was on benefits and were there any coal mines where we lived!

We managed to shut her up by telling her that the Queen had said that if she was plain old Mrs Windsor, then she would want to live in the Ribble Valley. Not a coal mine in sight...

Haha....love it! This is good insight as most of us probably don't have access to the whole spectrum of snobbery Grin

If you have time, please do elaborate on the differences between the social climbers and those who were born into it!

howsicklyarsekissy · 15/05/2021 23:04

Luton! My friend relocated to hull & loved it!

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 15/05/2021 23:05

Ok....is there a corner of Luton where all the snobs are hiding? I thought Luton was
a shit hole and have purposefully avoided going there Wink

SpiderinaWingMirror · 15/05/2021 23:07

I had a job in Tunbridge Wells. It was like a different world.

Absolutely right.
ouchmyfeet · 15/05/2021 23:09

@Talkwhilstyouwalk

Some of the towns in Cheshire are quite snobby and frequented by those with new money who like to flaunt it (cash, no dash) as opposed to old money. Hale, Wilmslow, and Alderly Edge are a few that come to mind. Lots of Chelsea tractors in these areas and examples of terrible, selfish parking.....

Having said the above, I do find that on the whole the snobs of the North West tend
to be more friendly and relatable than those of the Home Counties....

Agree with this
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/05/2021 23:11

Ha, re Solihull, we moved there (from Surrey) when I was 9 and this was a very very long time ago, but even then an estate agent told my mother, ‘You’re nothing in Solihull unless you’ve got 3 cars and a horse.’ 😂

Jumpingintosummer · 15/05/2021 23:11

^Troon - Idenitkit bungalows and over manicured lawns.
Newton Mearns - I lived there as a teen and god it was so snobby and unwelcoming and racist.^

@CatrinVennastin I second Troon and throw in Alloway!

Bloodypunkrockers · 15/05/2021 23:13

@phranes

Oh yes. I only know one person from Harpenden, but they were a monumental snob.

In Scotland, I would say Edinburgh.

Ever been to wester hailes?
LadyEggs · 15/05/2021 23:14

Hartley Wintney (but I love it)

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 15/05/2021 23:15

I knew Southwold would get a mention. Full of moneyed tourists with their expensive second homes and braying children. Lovely in the winter when they’ve all buggered off and the locals have it to themselves mostly.

Arghmyhip · 15/05/2021 23:16

Snobs are usually new money not old. So I would agree with Surrey and Crouch End.

Also, Bath and Edinburgh aren't twee - not sure the PP understands what twee means!

Arghmyhip · 15/05/2021 23:17

(Bath and Edinburgh might be snobby, but they really aren't twee. Not the same thing at all!)
