I just ate a Belgian bun

I went to the shop to buy some spinach.
They didn't have any. So I bought a Belgian bun.

For various reasons the last few weeks have been quite tough. I don't usually eat cakes or biscuits, but the Belgian bun just jumped out at me.

So I've made a nice coffee and just eaten it.
Totally unnecessary.

But gosh it was delicious!

Belgium buns are my absolute favourites. Now you mention it I don't think I've had one since Covid began. Was it soft or firm? Did the cheey stay on when you bit into it?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 13/05/2021 09:37

What’s a Belgian bun? Does it involve chocolate??

My favourite is Pret’s danish.

Metheven · 13/05/2021 09:38

Good for you, we all need a treat now and then. Much nicer than spinach,

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 13/05/2021 09:39

But is definitely an acceptable substitution for spinach. I would even dream of complaining If Ocado did that.

AmandaHoldensLips · 13/05/2021 09:39

Admit it... your Gwyneth Paltrow aren't you?

ShinySquirrel · 13/05/2021 09:39

Oooh, lovely!

I ate an M&S custard-filler choux bun in bed last night. The pastry went everywhere but I felt so decadent (and itchy).

Aprilwasverywet · 13/05/2021 09:39

Feel no guilt op.. After all it's easier on the eye stuck in your teeth unlike spinach!!

BabyMoonPie · 13/05/2021 09:42

A round fruited dough bun, thick white icing and a cherry on top. Yum.
Mydogisagentleman · 13/05/2021 09:50

The best bun.
Greggs sell a particularly pleasant fresh cream one

LienD · 13/05/2021 09:53

I'm belgian, live in Belgium and I have no idea what a belgian bun is! Pls help!

4PawsGood · 13/05/2021 09:54

Is a Belgian bun the same as a Chelsea bun?

UCOinanOCG · 13/05/2021 09:57

I am addicted to M&S iced buns. They are so delicious.

I should not have clicked on this. Now I'll be craving a Belgian bun all day!

What the hell? That's not even something that's sold here at the bakery 😂

What kind of dough is it made of?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 13/05/2021 10:05

A round fruited dough bun, thick white icing and a cherry on top. Yum.

I’ll need to buy one for research. Not very keen on icing, but that can be fixed.

Noshowlomo · 13/05/2021 10:07

So in the absence of spinach you bought a Belgian bun? You are my kind of people

poshme · 13/05/2021 10:08

There is a second one.

(I'm not Gwyneth Paltrow)

I just ate a Belgian bun

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/05/2021 10:08

I’m sure it’s better for your wellbeing than spinach.

poshme · 13/05/2021 10:09

@LienD it's sweet squishy dough with raisins (not too many which is good)

MindtheBelleek · 13/05/2021 10:09

I never knew those were called Belgian buns.

Incidentally, I recently reread The Nun's Story (which is about a Belgian nun) and hence keep misreading your title as 'I ate a Belgian nun.' Which is actually even more fun as a substitution for spinach. Grin

Stichintime · 13/05/2021 10:09

Sometimes they have cinnamon in as well. The one in the picture is a bit high!

poshme · 13/05/2021 10:09

Yes.

Though I now have to rethink dinner as that involved spinach.
Not sure the kids will be happy with 1/4 of a Belgian bun instead of spanakopita.

OP posts:
averythinline · 13/05/2021 10:17

Don't waste the bun on the kids....can they not just have cheese spanikopita? Impressed your making that am scared of filo!
