How often do you have snacks, e.g. biscuits, cakes, buns, crumpets etc with coffee and tea ?

I've largely got out of the habit on account of my waistline not getting any smaller but I occasionally like a small bar of Aldi dark chocolate with mid-morning coffee. Hobnobs, pain au chocolat et al are great but I'm trying to be strict!

The 25g bars of moser Roth 85% dark chocolate have over 150 calories though.
An Asda chocolate digestive has 88.
A banana (depending on size, I’ve weighed mine) has 109.

If a smaller waist is your goal you would be better off, calorie wise, with the chocolate digestive. Health wise is a different matter!

underneaththeash · 12/05/2021 17:21

Never, I can't eat sweet things (and drink wine) and stay thin. I prefer the wine!

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 12/05/2021 17:28

That would be breakfast for me, not the chocolate but crumpets or pain au chocolat

LubaLuca · 12/05/2021 17:30

I'm not at the moment due to having become too fat.

Crumpets or pastries would be a breakfast for me anyway, not an extra snack.

imgoingtoregretthis · 12/05/2021 17:30

What do people have instead of a packet of biscuits ? I really need to make the habit as I'm pre-diabetic.

Caspianberg · 12/05/2021 17:32

I don’t really snack tbh. I would only really have biscuits, cake etc if we have guests

onemouseplace · 12/05/2021 17:33

I have something with my afternoon cup of tea and find it doesn't make much difference to my weight as long as whatever I have is small and I only have one of them. It stops me being ravenous by dinner and snacking later.

Current afternoon snack of choice is a ginger nut as they are quite flavoursome for their size.

GlutenFreeGingerCake · 12/05/2021 17:44

I can drink tea or coffee on their own but if I am having a biscuit, cake or chocolate bar I really like a cup of coffee with it.

I'm glad to see this thread has survived! When I hit 'create' I had a message saying it had been auto-deleted for some obscure reason.

I don't have the Moser Roth chocolate but the small ones that come in five-packs. Probably just as calorific! I always have plenty of bananas in which are a reasonable stop-gap before meals but not as nice with ones' High Tea.

Hardly ever. Snacking is a slippery slope. Also, as I have got older my appetite has reduced and a mid morning snack would put me off my lunch. I eat enough at mal times not to need to snack in between.

Eggbread · 12/05/2021 18:06

Never. Ever.
Thankfully don’t enjoy this time of food.

I do enjoy caramel coffee syrup though. That might help you?

Eggbread · 12/05/2021 18:07

I have very big lunches.

Sees me through until dinner

SpnBaby1967 · 12/05/2021 18:10

I ate two jam doughnuts today, amazing but I felt so fat Grin

I tend to have something most days, but I eat healthily otherwise which keeps my weight stable I suppose. I'm partial to a pink lady apple.

HelenHywater · 12/05/2021 18:10

I never have a snack with tea or coffee. I have cake in the house because I made one for my dds birthday last night and did have a slice this afternoon, but that was breaking my fast.

I don't have biscuits in the house. I find the more sweet things I have the more I crave. I'm better with none.

Wiltshire90 · 12/05/2021 18:11

This thread inspired me to go and get a biscuit Grin

SinkGirl · 12/05/2021 18:12

I don’t really have sweet snacks. Very occasionally I’ll have a biscuit but a boring digestive.

Crisps on the other hand are my weakness... sometimes lunch is just a small bag of crisps 😬

Sometimes we’ll get a treat like some Gu puddings from the supermarket but rarely have dessert. Never bother in restaurants. I got a box of chocolates for Mother’s Day and still have half left.

I do love a pain au chocolat but a really good one - there’s an amazing patisserie nearby so maybe once a month I’ll get one if passing.

Sadly despite all this restraint I am a blob. Not fair really.

YanTanTethera123 · 12/05/2021 18:14

Sometimes a digestive or a homemade flapjack, never crumpet, occasionally a bun.
Generally I drink tea or coffee in its own.
I do have a single digestive with my early morning coffee because I can’t take my medication on an empty stomach and I don’t eat breakfast.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 12/05/2021 18:16

In answer to your question op every day.

I always have a mid morning and mid afternoon snack, generally would be a cereal bar or chocolate biscuit. Occasionally will be cake!

I'm a normal weight 🤷‍♀️

burritofan · 12/05/2021 18:25

Today there were no biscuits or cakes in the house – an utter planning failure – so I ate DD’s snack pack gingerbread men, half a block of pink fondant from the baking cupboard, and a water biscuit. Would swing for a pain au chocolat or a crumpet with melty butter and runny honey. Ooh, or a drop scone. Or any scone! A small cake. Perhaps a cream bun. Wait, what was the question?

The 5 pack bars is the one I was on about. 152 calories.
roguetomato · 12/05/2021 18:39

I don't have sweet snacks during the day, but have cakes/ice cream quite regularly after dinner. I need to stop that, really.

fat13 · 12/05/2021 18:40

I’m crap at just having one, so snacks turn into a near constant eating session for me. I have stopped but only because I was too fat. If I found out I had a month to live tomorrow I’d eat crisps, biscuits, sweets and cake constantly. And enjoy it!

MaidEdithofAragon · 12/05/2021 18:42

Rich tea biscuit in the afternoon with tea. Kallo dark chocolate rice cake in the morning with coffee. Trying to keep to 1100 calories a day.

WellTidy · 12/05/2021 18:47

Every day. But only one of them. I’ve lost over a stone and a half this year (half a stone to go) and I’ve still had one of the things you’ve listed every day of that.

But if I am having a pastry, that is my breakfast, as a pastry is quite calorific. A biscuit is different - I tend to have ginger biscuits (45 calories each) so I have two of them, and that is a mid morning or mid afternoon snack.

If I’m having some chocolate, I only have a small amount, maximum amount would be a normal size bar (like from a multi pack of twirls or whatever) or two or three chocolates from a mixed box.

I also have a bag of crisps each day - the size that you get in a multi-pack. Wheat crunchies or quavers or frazzles from a multi pack are less than 100 calories a bag. I love them.

It has taken me a while to realise that I need to cut down to this level though. I could previously have eaten a family size bag of maltesers or similar, or a big grab bag of crisps, or both, and not really think about it.
