How often do you have snacks, e.g. biscuits, cakes, buns, crumpets etc with coffee and tea ?

I've largely got out of the habit on account of my waistline not getting any smaller but I occasionally like a small bar of Aldi dark chocolate with mid-morning coffee. Hobnobs, pain au chocolat et al are great but I'm trying to be strict!

With tea or coffee? Never (I dont drink tea or coffee).
I've had (birthday) cake this evening before dinner with the kids.
I generally have fruit about 11am. Something sweet after dinner. This is a massive decrease on my lockdown snacking!

MrsDThomas · 12/05/2021 18:51

I don’t really drink tea/coffee for this reason. Gave up snacking about 20 yrs ago. If i do, its rice cakes or fruit. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth.

bugaboo218 · 12/05/2021 18:51

I try and stick to Saturdays only for eating junk/sweet treats.

Saturday is the day I may have 5 choc hobnobs with my mid morning brew.

A baguette slathered in mayo with tuna, salad and a muffin/crisps cake for lunch.

A take away most definitely for dinner, followed by cheese cake or such like for pud, washed down with a diet coke and the odd glass of wine.

In the week I do my own version of graze boxes for snack, have fruit or plain frozen yoghurt bark with frozen fruit or berries.

It is difficult. If I had junk in the house during the week. I would be eating cakes, crisps, choc each day.

PickAChew · 12/05/2021 18:55

Never.

I'm another who would rather have wine and savoury snacks. Every now and again Christmas the sweet tooth returns and I pile on weight and end up feeling crap. Physically, not mentally.

PickAChew · 12/05/2021 18:56

@imgoingtoregretthis

What do people have instead of a packet of biscuits ? I really need to make the habit as I'm pre-diabetic.
Just the tea. On its own.
Alarae · 12/05/2021 19:10

Well I don't drink tea or coffee, so technically... never?

Serious reply though I have a mid-morning snack and a late afternoon snack. These tend to be a Lidl/Aldi version of the chocolate fibre brownies (80 cals) and chopped strawberries (60-70 cals).

I'm so happy Aldi/Lidl came out with their versions of the Fibre One brownies as they feel like an actual sneaky cake but without the calories (and now the price tag!).

I'm trying to get out of the choc protein nut bar habit. I actually think its the oral stimulus more than anything. So celery would probs work. But celery or choc Confused

fruitpastille · 12/05/2021 19:29

I get those 5 packs of chocolate bars but I don't usually eat a whole one - just a few squares or maybe half. The hazelnut ones are 250 cals each. I usually have fruit in the morning and cup of tea separately. Maybe a biscuit or piece of choc with my cuppa after lunch or dinner. The lotus caramelized biscuits are nice if you just want a little something sweet. So basically I have something every day but a small amount. My weight is ok but could do with losing half a stone. I'm also terrible for crisps/ crackers with wine.

Roystonv · 12/05/2021 19:32

Never snack but do have something sweet with a coffee after evening meal. Am still huge and feel it's very unfair too!

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/05/2021 19:32

Never during the day.
I sometimes snack in the evening, generally savoury food like crisps and dip, or cheese, but sometimes cream cakes, I love eclairs and custard tarts.

Kyph · 12/05/2021 19:35

Much as I would love a biscuit with my coffee I never do. I never snack morning or afternoon. As someone else posted I like a glass of wine on an evening and couldn't do both.
When I was a teenager I did, but as I reached 20 I noticed a slight weight gain so the biscuits went. I still weigh the same 40 years later.

delilahbucket · 12/05/2021 19:38

I wouldn't make a tea or coffee and have a snack with it, just the drink. I don't have breakfast, but three coffees across the course of the morning. I have a high protein lunch and then tend not to eat until tea. I do have a little something sweet after tea, snack size chocolate bar or similar. I can't snack often, my waistline doesn't like it.

Surroundedbytime · 12/05/2021 19:43

I usually have something with a cup of tea at lunchtime. Today I had a kitkat. I can’t buy a packet of biscuits as I am the type of person to eat the lot. Last night I had a cup of tea and a crumpet before bed.

I don’t drink wine or eat crisps or snacks in the evenings though.

Juanbablo · 12/05/2021 19:48

I have a cinnamon swirl for a Sunday breakfast treat. A biscuit or something most days at some point. It might be mid afternoon or it might be after dinner.

PattyPan · 12/05/2021 19:49

Never, I’ve never got into the habit of it. I suppose I might if I went out for coffee somewhere but I very rarely do that. Crumpets are a food I sometimes have for breakfast though.

newtolineofduty · 12/05/2021 19:49

If I'm hungry at work I usually have a go ahead mid morning x I'm worse for snacking at night! Try to stick to lower fat things though like rich tea x

Nothing. Like PickAChew I just drink tea on its own. Snacking is just a habit, and like a habit it can be broken.
Bugbeau · 12/05/2021 19:59

I’m a teacher, I almost always have a cup of tea and one biscuit/small Kit Kat etc from whatever we have brought in for the biscuit tin that week at morning break time. I will occasionally have another tea & biscuit in the afternoon. I eat a low calorie lunch and the little break/caffeine/chat/treat is a nice part of the day.

Laufeythejust · 12/05/2021 20:06

If I’m in the office I’ll probably have a handful of sports mix or whatever sweet/ biscuit is on offer. Otherwise I always save 150 calories for something in the evening with a cup of tea. It’s normally something savoury though like popcorn or popchips or something.

WildRosie · 12/05/2021 20:09

There are some admirable examples of restraint on here. Ironic considering people's favourite biscuits is often discussed on this forum. I'm quite picky about the kind of freshly-baked things I see in the baker's shop. For example, I'll happily plump for a half-chocolate flapjack or one of their big toffee choux buns, but I'll steer clear of vanilla slices and custard tarts. Likewise, I avoid digestive and rich tea biccies but go for Biscoff and Hobnobs. None of them too often.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 12/05/2021 20:13

I don’t have them because I’m an ‘all or nothing’ person. I don’t want one, I want 5 or 6, so 99% of the time I don’t bother in the first place.

cupsofcoffee · 12/05/2021 20:18

Rarely, if ever, though I have just added a double pack of chocolate hobnobs to the food shop Grin

MaizeBlouse · 12/05/2021 20:21

Yikes I came on and expected everyone to say they had this every day. Cos I do! I'm a normal weight though so probs would cut down if I felt it was making me gain weight.

tootiredtospeak · 12/05/2021 20:22

Always and I have just lost a stone but this is not something I can do. I have to have something 5 matchmakers 70 calories

LemonRoses · 12/05/2021 20:27

I drink lots of tea and coffee but don’t often snack.
I’d pop a few scones in the oven if someone drops by for a coffee, or maybe a cake if I meet a friend out at a cafe
