So it seems breastfeeding and needing IVF previously means nothing..

Very shaky right now, need a hand hold please!

DS is 16 months, took 3.5 years to make with the help of ICSI for male factor infertility. He is breastfed and a boob monster, feeding day and night still. I haven't had a period for over two years now, not even a sniff of one bar a bit of cramping for the past few weeks. DH and I dont often find the time to have sex but here I am, having taken a pregnancy test because I've been feeling a bit strange ( struggling to sleep, bloated ). I bought a two pack of cheap ones from sainburys and have obviously done both and and say the same.

Never in a million years after being told we would never conceive naturally did I expect this - I don't think I believe it. We'd discussed doing a Frozen Embryo Transfer at the end of the year after DS turned two.

I've peed on enough of these things in the last few years but still I'm doubting it's real and will be getting a fancier test this morning.

Yikes.

Whingey · 10/05/2021 07:39

Congratulations. Women often get pregnant after IVF or even adoption

StoneColdBitch · 10/05/2021 07:41

I get the sense this is a happy surprise? Congratulations if so.

Breastfeeding is only a form of contraception (the lactational amenorrhoea method) in the first 6 months after birth, and only if certain conditions are met. So that bit doesn't surprise me. But it must be a lovely surprise to have conceived without ICSI this time around! Smile

Whereland · 10/05/2021 07:42

Oh amazing!
It took us two years and two rounds of ivf to have first baby. When he was 6 months old my period came back. Had sex once that month- pregnant 😂

Nightmanagerfan · 10/05/2021 07:43

Congratulations- you must still be in shock! The first scan will tel you how far along you are - do you have an idea? All being well I guess that’s a just over two year age gap. Best of luck

alabaster11 · 10/05/2021 07:44

Congratulations!!

3 years + 2 rounds of IVF to conceive DD1... 5 months later got pregnant naturally with DD2 😬 ending up with a 13 month age gap.

Missmonkeypenny · 10/05/2021 07:46

Oh absolutely I know women can get pregnant after IVF as pregnancy and birth can kick-start things sometimes but I've had numerous medical professionals tell me that male fertility can't be kickstarted, hence the shock. DH wasn't a little bit infertile but very infertile so my mind is blown. I am shocked but cautiously excited. I think after what we went through to get DS it's hard to be excited because I know just how often things can go wrong. Hoping it will feel more real after another test.

I havent told DH yet either!

I genuinely have no idea how far along I might be, if it was the last time we had sex maybe about 5/6 weeks but I'll need a scan for sure Confused

Congratulations! This happened to a lovely couple in our NCT group. They ended up with a smaller age gap than planned but have a lovely, happy family. For them too it was the DH sperm which had caused the issues with conceiving the first time round.

Dohrehmee · 10/05/2021 08:31

So nice to hear such lovely uplifting news. I’m overjoyed for you x

Missmonkeypenny · 10/05/2021 08:54

Thank you for all of your congratulations- I'm just off to the pharmacy now to get a ' real test ' AKA one in a plastic case
