So it seems breastfeeding and needing IVF previously means nothing..

Very shaky right now, need a hand hold please!

DS is 16 months, took 3.5 years to make with the help of ICSI for male factor infertility. He is breastfed and a boob monster, feeding day and night still. I haven't had a period for over two years now, not even a sniff of one bar a bit of cramping for the past few weeks. DH and I dont often find the time to have sex but here I am, having taken a pregnancy test because I've been feeling a bit strange ( struggling to sleep, bloated ). I bought a two pack of cheap ones from sainburys and have obviously done both and and say the same.

Never in a million years after being told we would never conceive naturally did I expect this - I don't think I believe it. We'd discussed doing a Frozen Embryo Transfer at the end of the year after DS turned two.

I've peed on enough of these things in the last few years but still I'm doubting it's real and will be getting a fancier test this morning.

Yikes.

I suppose that's that confirmed then!

Goodness me, I am sat in utter disbelief.

@MyDcAreMarvel

congratulations and a great age gap too.
Thank you! All I can think is how small DS still is and wondering how I manage a toddler and a newborn!

Cyw2018 · 10/05/2021 11:50

Congratulations on the pregnancy.... What you going to spend the money you've saved on the embryo transfer.... HOLIDAY!!

JustFedUpOfThis · 10/05/2021 11:53

A similar thing happened to me. It’s a wonderful, wonderful feeling and your post has reminded me of how amazing it was. Congratulations!

Sixsillysausagessizzlinginapan · 10/05/2021 11:56

You don't need another test. Those cheapos are the best going. Picked up my last pregnancy on day 14 of my cycle! I'd have only been a week pregnant. Good strong line too. Just ring the GP to arrange 8 week check x

GameSetMatch · 10/05/2021 11:57

What a wonderful post!
Congratulations!
Wishing you all the luck in the world.

That age gap will be fantastic, they will play with each other and have similar interests.

This happened to a girl I worked with in Abu Dhabi. After 15 years of infertility, IVF twins (who she sadly miscarried in the 6th month due to an incompetent cervix) and finally adopting a girl from India, her biological DD was conceived completely out of the blue when her adopted DD was 5 years old.

Good luck OP!

Jesusmaryjosephandthecamel · 10/05/2021 11:59

Don’t bother with a fancy test. They’re no more accurate. Huge congratulations too💐

CaraherEIL · 10/05/2021 12:00

Hurray, hurray!!! That’s amazing so lovely. All the years of previous tests, checks, stress and supervision and then just quietly a little miracle happened. Congratulations OP, great news.

SmednotaSmoo · 10/05/2021 12:02

Thank you for sharing your news, it’s lovely to have a smile today :)

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 10/05/2021 12:02

Congratulations. Absolutely amazing for you both. Don't worry about the age gap, you will make it work

ItWasLikeThatWhenIGotHere · 10/05/2021 12:03

Congratulations.

We were also told by the doctors that we had serious male factor infertility which would require ICSI, but after I had my tubes flushed for my side of the investigations I had two babies in the space of four menstrual cycles.

Indoorcamping · 10/05/2021 12:04

Congratulations!!

2klightyears · 10/05/2021 12:08

That is fantastic news :) My SIL has first child via IVF (after many years of trying to conceive, I don't know the exact issue), and the 2nd child just over 2 years later. It was a wonderful wonderful surprise for them. Fingers crossed for you!!

AfternoonToffee · 10/05/2021 12:13

Congratulations.

I had a similar age gap with my first two, it worked out fine.

sashh · 10/05/2021 12:14

Congratulations.

Bells3032 · 10/05/2021 12:15

congrats. We have extreme male factor and having ivf but doctors told us we have a 5% chance of conceiving natural. not a lot but its possible.

My best friend and i recently had a chat whether i would use contraception between kids (I had the coil before meeting DH and took it out to TTC). i said no as it's unlikely. she said what would happen if you got pregnant naturally before you were ready. said i'd be thrilled and use the money saved for IVF 2 to hire a night nurse!

Triffid1 · 10/05/2021 12:18

A much less extreme version of this happened to me - years of trying and eventually Clomid with DS then DD just happened! Mostly, I remember the absolute and complete shock when I took that test (I spent the entire day in a complete daze, which was tricky as I was in London doing a series of client meetings!) so I think I have a pretty good idea of what you're feeling right now! Grin Congratulations.
