What's your favourite horror film?

DH and I love horrors but seem to have exhausted Netflix etc - what's your favourite? Any hidden gems we might not have seen?

I don't do well with the Paranormal Activity style films but might be brave / give DH a laugh while I scream.

Candyman.

The Shining.

The Fog.

Poltergeist.

The Omen.

The originals of all of those, not the remakes.

Astronaut8 · 08/05/2021 17:33

I have no suggestions as I’m a total wimp but when I watched Paranormal Activity I screamed my head off. It gave me sleep paralysis 😂😂

Hereditary is good.

The exorcist is my all time favourite.
The first Saw film is very good and I think Sinister is on Netflix, which is another favourite.

It Stains the Sand Red, zombies, it's on Amazon prime. I love the Romero zombie films as well.

IHaveBrilloHair · 08/05/2021 17:47

All of the Nightmare on Elm Street films, the first and third in particular.
No idea if they're available anywhere though.

KurtWilde · 08/05/2021 17:50

If you've got prime there's some excellent independent horror films on there.

AuntMasha · 08/05/2021 17:54

Probably in a minority, but I liked ‘Midsommar’. It’s both a horror and a break-up movie.

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 08/05/2021 17:55

Let the right one in (Swedish version).

NerrSnerr · 08/05/2021 17:55

Misery
Pet Semetary (I know the remake is on Netflix- I haven't seen it though).
The Scream movies

JorisBonson · 08/05/2021 18:01

I'm such a geek that I've seen pretty much all of these 🤦🏻‍♀️ keep em coming tho.

Get Out is amazing, one of the best films I've seen in years

The Cabin in the Woods is funny and quite cleverly done.

If you like gory movies - The Descent, Hostel, Saw.

Dunairbeanat · 08/05/2021 18:05

30 days of night
From dusk til dawn
Near dark

I think there's a vampire theme going on.

JorisBonson · 08/05/2021 18:06

@Dunairbeanat not seen 30 days of night, will put it on the list! Dusk Til Dawn is brilliant.
