What's your favourite horror film?

DH and I love horrors but seem to have exhausted Netflix etc - what's your favourite? Any hidden gems we might not have seen?

I don't do well with the Paranormal Activity style films but might be brave / give DH a laugh while I scream.

I think The Others is really good, not OTT and no gore, I think only a 12 certificate but I found it so spooky!

vampirethriller · 08/05/2021 18:07

Oh, I watched Hereditary the other night and that's very disturbing. Netflix.
Return of the Living Dead is a good one.

I also ‘enjoyed’ (if that’s the right word) Saint Maude. The final scene quite traumatised me.

@maryjosephandtheweedonkey the Others really scared me! I had to get a housemate to turn my bedroom light off and I was 27 when I watched it!

Eli on Netflix is good

Kate3150 · 08/05/2021 18:14

Jeepers Creepers, where’d ya get those peepers

AuntMasha · 08/05/2021 18:14

I quite liked ‘Vivarium’ and ‘His House’, two British horrors. They both take the horror genre in a slightly different direction.

VettiyaIruken · 08/05/2021 18:16

I love Japanese and Korean horror films. Imo they are far superior to anything Hollywood is putting out.

PhoenixandtheRug · 08/05/2021 18:37

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Hands down the best horror ever. My favourite film of all time.

Salem's Lot with David Soul is pretty scary too, surprisingly for a mini series. Race With the Devil is an underrated gem

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 08/05/2021 18:43

Antebellum
Ghost Stories

Heartofglass12345 · 08/05/2021 19:31

I recently watched a film called Freaky with Vince Vaughan. It's a cross between freaky Friday and a slasher film. It was so funny and gory, perfect lol
There is a film called Matriarch which I hadn't heard of until I saw it, that was really good!

AuntMasha · 08/05/2021 19:33

Love Japanese as well as Korean horror, but not sure I could watch ‘Audition’ again - I found it excruciatingly harrowing in places and I’m pretty much a hard bastard when it comes to horror films.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 08/05/2021 19:36

Silent Hill.. but if you know a good horror you'll have already seen that! 😉

Chatanooga1 · 08/05/2021 19:55

Wonderful film -

The Changeling 1980

Chatanooga1 · 08/05/2021 19:56

Fantastic film although it’s Sc Fi as well as horror

The Thing 1982

Chatanooga1 · 08/05/2021 19:58

One of my favourites

The Wicker man 1973

lolacola77 · 08/05/2021 20:03

What are the good independent ones on Prime? I'd recommend Savageland, Kill List, Banshee Chapter and Borderlands

PeskyRooks · 08/05/2021 20:19

Oh yes Ghost Stories is brilliant DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat!
