Do you have a cooked dinner every day?

Just that really.

We have sandwiches or salad for lunch, then a cooked dinner in the evening, meat, veg or pasta, etc.

Someone has just told me that they often just have a bowl of cereal for dinner. I know this isn’t a financial decision for them, but I guess maybe they sometimes just don’t feel like cooking.

Yes, not always a full on dinner, sometimes I do an omelette with salad & bread or a jacket potato, never sandwich or cereal until we've had a big lunch out.

Palavah · 05/05/2021 20:35

No.

Yes. Sometimes in the summer i eat a lot of salads

WrongWayApricot · 05/05/2021 20:37

Most days we have something hot but not always. Can easily have a sandwich or toasties for dinner. Also in the summer I don't always want something hot, might have a cold quiche or pasta salad sorts of things. It's been a long time since I had cereal for dinner but it is nice occasionally and feels cosy for some reason.

Pinkbrush · 05/05/2021 20:38

Always

RedLem0ns · 05/05/2021 20:40

Not always. Sometimes go for a “tea” of sandwiches, boiled egg, fruit because I honestly find making daily dinners the most gigantic pain in the hole. It’s the worst bit of being an adult.

I used to love a bowl of cereal for dinner but don’t go that far now that I have DC to —try to stuff greenery into— think about.

RedLem0ns · 05/05/2021 20:41

Sigh. Strike through fail.

Aprilshowersandhail · 05/05/2021 20:42

Dh cooks a proper meal every meal. Minimum of 5 of us. Sometimes 7..9 on Sundays!

Justlovedogs · 05/05/2021 20:44

We're a bit late eating tonight as I've been out, so it's a bacon & egg sandwich for dinner here. Will have dessert if still hungry after...

Reinventinganna · 05/05/2021 20:44

Dc have a cooked dinner but I’ll often have something small and snacky as I’m not hungry after work (12 hour shifts, get in at 8:30). Tonight is a cheese toastie.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 05/05/2021 20:44

Assuming the people having a bowl of cereal were single? No parent I know would willingly just serve themselves or their family cereal as a meal.

I do a hot dinner for the children every evening, and then one for myself after I've cooked theirs because I eat a different diet than they do.

Marguerite2000 · 05/05/2021 20:46

Not if I'm on my own. I don't like dinners much. When my kids leave I will have things like sandwiches or cheese and crackers, with soup or salad and fruit for the 5 a day. Cereal is good as well.

VaggieMight · 05/05/2021 20:46

I don't need a hot meal every evening, I find it a bit boring, the routine of it. I'll have salads instead or ryvita and cottage cheese, something snacky.

irregularegular · 05/05/2021 20:47

Yes. But I might not if I lived alone. I certainly didn't as a student. Sometimes I ate porridge all day if I ran out of money!

dottiedodah · 05/05/2021 20:48

Always have had a hot dinner.Just cant feel full on Salad or snacks .Will often indulge in a bowl of Crunchy Nut before bed though !(Supper is a whole other meal!) also Toast /cheese and bics as well

museumum · 05/05/2021 20:48

In my 20s I’d often do this if I got in late from work / gym.
I hate cooking and eating late. But I’d probably choose toast over cereal.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/05/2021 20:49

Yes. I'd be too hungry if I just had cereal, I always want a proper meal!

mamaduckbone · 05/05/2021 20:49

Yes, every night, unless we've had a big cooked lunch (usually Sunday lunch or if we've been out)
I think the last time I had cereal for dinner I was probably a student.

DenisetheMenace · 05/05/2021 20:50

Yes. Probably won’t so often when our youngest is at university next year.

Cereal is the devil’s work at any time of the day.

LemonRoses · 05/05/2021 20:53

Generally but not always. Sometimes cheese and pickles, sometimes a bowl of porridge if it’s cold, sometimes something simple like beans on toast or poached eggs.

GreenEyedDevil · 05/05/2021 20:53

Yes, every night

Egghead81 · 05/05/2021 20:53

Sometimes just a huge bowl of steamed veg (left to go to room temp - for some reason I love cold cooked broccoli) drizzled with soy sauce. Followed but a couple of kiwi fruits.

Absolutely love it.

katy1213 · 05/05/2021 20:54

I might have cereal while I was waiting for dinner to cook.

Shelddd · 05/05/2021 20:54

I do cook every day but might not be what you consider a proper meal. Quite often it's just a piece of fish in the oven and a salad. Takes just a couple minutes to make. I only put effort into a meal like once a week.
