Do you have a cooked dinner every day?

Just that really.

We have sandwiches or salad for lunch, then a cooked dinner in the evening, meat, veg or pasta, etc.

Someone has just told me that they often just have a bowl of cereal for dinner. I know this isn’t a financial decision for them, but I guess maybe they sometimes just don’t feel like cooking.

Pretty much. Dh does the cooking here.
If he’s out I’ll make something for the kids, usually rustle up some pasta and a sauce but cba to feed myself. I’m not a good cook but the dc will tolerate my offerings Grin

SocraticJunkieWannabe · 05/05/2021 23:33

Yes, now I have DC and am old. But when I was younger and childfree I may well have had cereal or toast for dinner, or alcohol and pub snacks for dinner (those were the days...)

worriedatthemoment · 05/05/2021 23:35

yes because dh and ds want one
If I lived on my own I would prob opt for cereal or a sandwich some days of the week

I find cooking such a chore, if I make something from scratch I make enough to last a few days. So we’ll have that for one meal and I’ll rustle something easy up for the other meal x

dottiedaisee · 05/05/2021 23:45

Prefer late lunch ...I really cannot eat a big meal in the evenings. If I am not working I cook or husband prepares a meal for himself and son .

BackforGood · 05/05/2021 23:45

Yes, in the broadest sense - so I'd count a jacket potato and chees and beans as a "hot meal" but I'm sure some MNers would be horrified Wink

QueenPaw · 05/05/2021 23:49

No. Sometimes I skip it totally, sometimes have a salad or an apple, sometimes porridge

Pickledpenguin · 05/05/2021 23:52

Most nights but tonight I worked late and had college so I produced wraps for dinner followed by easter egg for dessert and yes I know how far past easter it is lol

Shergill15 · 06/05/2021 00:16

Most nights - mainly as a way of getting decent food and some vegetables into DD who'd quite happily eat sandwiches every day. But if she's been fed at after school club or whatever I often can't be bothered cooking a full meal just for me so might have toast/eggs/generally graze from the fridge

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 06/05/2021 00:20

When Dds at her dad's and its just me I might not cook a proper meal if I've had a proper breakfast and lunch. I'll have cheese on toast or hot cross bun/tea cake or even cheese and crackers. If I'm having a proper meal it's something very quick like a stir fry.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 06/05/2021 00:46

No I live alone now and often have a bowl of granola for dinner.I don't have much of an appetite anymore( post meno maybe?)

Susannahmoody · 06/05/2021 00:53

Hot dinner here too.

This thread is like something from the 50s! GrinCake

MouseholeCat · 06/05/2021 01:15

I mean, in summer we'll have salads and sometimes they might have cheese as the protein so I guess that's not cooked?! But definitely never cereal for dinner.

Notthatmuchroyalist · 06/05/2021 01:29

I might have ocassionally had an extra bowl of cereal but I can't get away with missing meals now, I feel like death the next day.

AutumnLeafDance · 06/05/2021 01:29

We have a cooked dinner every night, but the second night is always leftovers from the night before plus a few extra veg if needed. This is how we manage to have nutritious, home cooked meals without having to start from scratch and mess up the kitchen every single day. Looking back, I don't know how my mum managed to cook a separate meal every night of the year. I enjoy cooking, but too much and it becomes a chore.

Ladywinesalot · 06/05/2021 01:30

Before dc id have cereal for dinner if not that hungry.
Now I can’t control my hunger

Lurak · 06/05/2021 03:53

Always have a cooked breakfast or dinner and then tend to have a light easy tea, sandwich, salad or leftovers.

HelenHywater · 06/05/2021 06:36

Yes if the children are at home. but if they're with their dad I don't often bother. I don't particularly like cooking, but I do like sitting down for a family meal.

when they leave home (in 10 years time!), I'll have to motivate myself to cook for myself, otherwise I'll just be living on toast.

badlydrawnbear · 06/05/2021 07:06

Yes, except when it is boiling hot and we have salads instead (except I don't when I am at work because I don't leave until about 9pm and can't be cooking dinner at the time I get home, DH cooks for DC though). I agree with others that I probably wouldn't bother if I lived alone though, because I often just don't want to be bothered with cooking dinner but have to feed DC.

justanotherneighinparadise · 06/05/2021 07:08

If I didn’t have children I wouldn’t cook. I’m far happier just picking at stuff over the week and cooking something delicious at the weekend.

Starstruck2021 · 06/05/2021 07:08

No, sometimes I have a bowl of cereal, porridge, toast and banana or a ham sandwich and a cup of tea and I am perfectly happy.

MinnieMountain · 06/05/2021 08:54

Normally I do.

Now DH has hockey on Thursdays and DS eats at MIL’s I’m looking forward to easy things like cheese and biscuits. Never cereal for supper though.

Morgan12 · 06/05/2021 09:05

We always have a cooked dinner but that's mostly because DH wouldn't have an alternative. I'd happily have sandwiches etc some nights but he wouldn't.

coogee · 06/05/2021 09:12

Normally, yes. My husband cooks during the week and it's usually something quite light. A stir fry or similar.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 06/05/2021 09:13

Yes. I have primary aged children who take packed lunches.

At the weekend we sometimes have brunch and dinner around 4pm (BBQ for example).

When the children were in infants and had hot lunch, and DH got a cooked lunch at work, my lunches werent always proper cooked meals. (We then had sandwiches etc I the evening)
