Truthfully, how often do you change your bedsheets?

  1. When you were a child?
  2. As a university student (or equivalent) ?
  3. Now?

Any difference between being single/ sharing a bed with a partner?

@flapjackfairy

Do people only have one set of bedding then ? I change mine every two weeks or so but I swap to another set so I don't have to think about remaking the bed later in the day because it's a job I hate. So no need to stress about washing and drying it the same day !
I have teo per bed but prefer to put the same back on so I don't need to fold them.

As a child, no idea. I would say every 2 months, maybe longer. There were loads of us and my mum won't have had the time.
As a student maybe every 3 weeks or fortnight - I had more time.
Now, every 3 weeks. Maybe slightly more often (every fortnight) if it's really hot in summer. Maybe slightly less (every four weeks) if I'm really busy in winter or have been away a lot.

LudoBear · 04/05/2021 20:14

No idea as a child.

Never went to uni etc but live on my own, never lived with anybody as an adult and I change maybe once every 2 months or so.

feathersandferns · 04/05/2021 20:20

As a child I have no idea.

As a student it was probably about every six weeks. Having to go to the laundry was a pain in the ass.

These days I intend to do it fortnightly. In reality it's once every three or four weeks. Almost every time 😂

I accept that this is not great 😁

Egghead81 · 04/05/2021 20:22

@LaceyBetty

I love that no one remembers when they were a child. Hopefully my children won't remember their dad and me as hideous housekeepers.
But you miss out on that lovely warm fuzzy feeling of your children being bathed, hair wash, clean pjs and them getting in to clean sheets.

They may not give a flying fig, but I like knowing!

FijiCavanaugh · 04/05/2021 20:23

No idea as a child.

At uni maybe every 3-4 weeks perhaps.

Now I do it weekly if DP has stayed over and either weekly or fortnightly if on my own depending on how warm its been.

IhaveMyMoments · 04/05/2021 20:27

Child once a week.
Didn't go to uni but wojdknt of done any different as moved out at 16 still did

Now. Once a week. Sometimes more if hot or otherwise haha

Baby's cot sheet most days he's a dribbler.

Girls bunks once a week. Even though Dsd isn't here eow I still do because they match :/.. Don't judge haha

Teen he does every Fri before going to his dad's. If his room hasn't been aired or just a typical teen smell I make him do mid week too

The only night I sleep well is the night the beds have been done. I'm odd.

IhaveMyMoments · 04/05/2021 20:30

We have too many sets too it's a weakness!
Teen has I think 5 sets?
Girls have 4 each both matching
And about 14 single bottom sheets
Baby has about 8 sheets (lots hand me downs from dd) 3 gro bags diff togs and he has 2 duvet sets ready when needed.

For our bed 6 sets, 4 bottom sheets.

DH often laughs when I come home with another 'needed' bedset. I have a clear out each winter and they get new sets to put on over Xmas

LemonViolet · 04/05/2021 20:30

OP if it’s the getting the dirty washing turned around that’s bothering you, do you have a launderette nearby that does service washes? When I lived in a flat with no dryer I had 5 sets of bedding, so could still change them weeklyish, and once I had 3-4 sets of dirty bedding waiting I’d take them for a service wash, about £10-14 and pick them up clean and dry a few hours later. Well worth it to avoid sheets hanging over doors etc. I’d combine it with going to the market and then pub lunch, drop them off on the way out, pick them up on the way home.

IhaveMyMoments · 04/05/2021 20:32

I'm. Lucky as I tumble it all or dry on the highline if not raining. Even if cold I put out then finish in dryer.

maddiemookins16mum · 04/05/2021 20:44

Now, weekly.
Houseshare/bedsit land yonks ago - over 2 weeks, maybe 3.
As a child, no idea.

DastardlytheFriendlyMutt · 04/05/2021 20:45
  1. Twice a week in boarding school/weekly at home
  2. Weekly to fortnightly
  3. Twice a week/ Weekly without fail
blowinahoolie · 04/05/2021 20:48

Monthly.

Foodisascience · 04/05/2021 20:50

Two sets each bed

Every 2 occasionally 3 weeks

There was poster on here ages ago, I can’t remember her name who said she changed sheets every day.

DenisetheMenace · 04/05/2021 20:52

Kids: as they were needed
As a student: no idea, one big blur, sorry
Now: weekly (unless very hot, sweaty night)

hiredandsqueak · 04/05/2021 20:52

Dm was a clean freak so beds would be stripped every couple of days.

I strip the beds weekly and sometimes more often in summer.

imsoinmyhead · 04/05/2021 20:53

No idea as a child but my mum probably did it every week or two

At uni - rarely

Now - every week or so

hippidyhiphip · 04/05/2021 20:53

Do ours fortnightly. And the kids on the weeks we don't do ours. So effectively I am washing some bedding every week!
When I was at uni it was probably every couple of months.
I house shared with my friend at uni and she didn't change her bed sheets for the entire year! She just febreezed them instead!

KittyMcKitty · 04/05/2021 20:55

Every Monday - kids every Tuesday.

imsorryihaventaclue · 04/05/2021 20:55

Once a week... getting into a bed with clean bedding is one of life’s simple pleasures. Shame it only lasts one night!

whenwillthemadnessend · 04/05/2021 20:56

Week one kids x2
Week two my bed
Week three week off GrinBlush
I do wash pillow cases in between tho if they get dirty or it's particularly hot.

TheVampiresWife · 04/05/2021 20:58

Yesterday we had the 'how often do you shower' thread, today it's the 'how often do you change your sheets' thread so tomorrow it must be time for 'do you wash your towels'

transformandriseup · 04/05/2021 21:00

When I remember but 3 weeks is probably the max.

EarringsandLipstick · 04/05/2021 21:00

@TheVampiresWife

And then 'do you keep your shoes on indoors?' 😂

Exactly!

It's the bi-monthly separate the scruffs from the pious exercise Grin
