Don't say where you live but do you have a 'secret' place that only locals know about?

I live near a national park and a bunch of forestry sites and know where to park for free.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 03/05/2021 16:58

We have a secret beach. It’s inaccessible by car which helps.

LaBellina · 03/05/2021 17:01

Yes - a beautiful public garden that is tucked away near a residential area. It’s usually quiet and very peaceful there.

The local teens have a small beach where there go during tourist season when the main beaches are packed. If you didnt know how to get there , then you would never find it. We also have a beautiful woods near an old village that was abandon during the famine , its right on the cliffs and it has stunning views but visitors would never find it as its so far out. We actually have loads of hidden gems like these.

SymphonyofShadows · 03/05/2021 17:06

No, we are too close to London and everywhere has aerial shots thanks to Google. My town has got enormously popular in the last few years so everywhere is packed in normal times.

Crockof · 03/05/2021 17:08

Facebook has completely ruined things like this. I'm fucking sick of posters asking for 'hidden gems' it brings out the rage, then Facebook is full of people complaining that the local areas are full.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 03/05/2021 17:08

I'm in Maine so I have a favourite lobster shack. I'd tell you about it but then I'd have to kill you.

Susannahmoody · 03/05/2021 17:09

I know a secret ice rink and it's on a lake Grin

Yes we live abroad

Susannahmoody · 03/05/2021 17:10

I also know zz's lobster shack

isthismylifenow · 03/05/2021 17:12

I know of a secret nudist beach.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 03/05/2021 17:13

Yes, several secret beaches.

DramaAlpaca · 03/05/2021 17:13

Yes, it's a walking route. It used to be really quiet and you'd rarely see another soul there, but more people have discovered it during lockdown unfortunately. They are locals though, tourists wouldn't be aware of it.

iklboo · 03/05/2021 17:14

A beach. In the middle of the town. We're not near the coast.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 03/05/2021 17:15

We have a path off of our local beach that you can walk out on at low tide and if you get the timing right and follow the tide out you can reach a sandbank and spend a few hours sunbathing and swimming in a shallow channel. The main beach could be packed out but there will be barely another person on the sandbank. We love it when we get the magic combination if good weather and favourable tide times so that we can get up early and head out there.

Yes, but that's what makes it amazing, people can get the fast train to us, to the big beach but don't, because they don't know it exists You must have something near you?

Yes. A secret beach and swimming spot in a river running through a woods. We spent most days last year down there, kids making slides down the river bank. Its beautiful.

shallIswim · 03/05/2021 17:17

Several beaches. Loads more circular walks. Many unknown to locals too. I really am frequently staggered but grateful for people's lack of imagination and sense of adventure!

Teabaghag · 03/05/2021 17:18

Yes, a micropub in a tiny village.

Theworldisfullofgs · 03/05/2021 17:21

Yes. A beautiful fen. Although its on a Website its hard to find. But we're not touristy here which is lovely.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/05/2021 17:22

An amazing bar. Sadly closed at the moment as there's no outdoor space, but hopefully will be able to reopen soon. D P and I also have a favourite secret-ish city walk, where we've seen nesting jays and a pair of buzzards.

Yes. There is a nature reserve and visitors go straight to the obvious bit with the entrance gate and the car park but if they were to cross the road and go into the residential street alongside they'd find the other side of the nature reserve which is usually only used by residents, is much quieter, and (in the opinion if everyone who lives here) much nicer.

Tangledtresses · 03/05/2021 17:32

Yes lots of beautiful woodlands with streams you'd only know about if you lived here

UseOfWeapons · 03/05/2021 17:33

Yes, a remote patch of woodland, abutting fields on a sunny south-facing slope. I watch hares there. The jack will stamp about in the fields, and the jill with her leverets flop out in the sunshine.
