Don't say where you live but do you have a 'secret' place that only locals know about?

We have a beach that unless you lived here, you would never know about
Tourists area too

Ugh “to” not “too”! That’s just spoilt my bank holiday...

HunterAngel · 03/05/2021 20:09

@Redcherries I love country walks but DS is only 2 and I can’t get the buggy down some paths. This walk was always so nice but lately it’s just too crowded. Hopefully it’ll quiet down now the kids are back at school and the shops are open again. I’ve missed my mid week walks!

Pieceofpurplesky · 03/05/2021 20:14

A beautiful river surrounded by trees and fields with big boulders to sit on. Can spend hours and not a car goes by. Ten minutes down the road is a busy tourist attraction but nobody ever turns left!

Stichintime · 03/05/2021 20:14

A pub that only I went to. Then I realised it was actually someone's front room and the owners were just being friendly.

Dugee · 03/05/2021 20:16

Yes a public park, tucked away in a suburban area. The local volunteers have made a Japanese section and a Himalayan section. Hardly anyone goes there, it's lovely.

crazylikechocolate · 03/05/2021 20:17

(Another) we have a secret beach inaccessible by car ( or anyone that isn't a mountain goat )

Chatanooga1 · 03/05/2021 20:20

We have a secret beach too!

Local people and large black cows if it’s the same as the op’s!

polkadotpjs · 03/05/2021 20:23

I want my own skinny dipping pond! Keen on trying wild swimming rather than getting my nethers out but still. I wouldn't know where to go...

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 03/05/2021 20:23

I’m too far away from the secret beaches. But I know of some.

But there are a couple of walks round here that aren’t well known and I escape there for a bit when the weather is grotty.

You see no one. It is bloody lovely.

VaggieMight · 03/05/2021 20:25

@LaBellina is it an Elizabethan garden?

trevthecat · 03/05/2021 20:35

I went to ours this morning! It looks like a small walk through but it's actually really big. All wooded, little bridges over a stream and right now it's full of wild garlic ❤️

LaurieFairyCake · 03/05/2021 20:37

Yes. A piece of beach in London that isn't hidden at all and is accessible - but no one ever goes down

It's literally jammed on the path above, no one ever down on the beach Confused

Fountainsoftea · 03/05/2021 20:45

Used to have a woods and a castle. I grew up 10 miles away and only found out about it when I moved here.

Then it was posted all over local free papers and now you can't go near the place.

Fountainsoftea · 03/05/2021 20:46

Sorry, not local free papers- ones over the border.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 03/05/2021 20:48

On the south coast in a very touristy place. I know a car park by the beach that doesnt get full up during the peak tourist months. Very handy!

Trappedonanisland · 03/05/2021 20:53

No I wasn't born here so the locals don't let on . They are cliquey like that . I'm sure it's covered in fag ends and nitrous gas bits anyway like everywhere else down here .

FuckyouCovid21 · 03/05/2021 20:53

On the meadows @iklboo?

iklboo · 03/05/2021 20:57

That's the one @FuckyouCovid21 Wink

flippertygibbit · 03/05/2021 21:01

We used to have lots of places (we're in Scotland) but no more, everyone knows where everything is now. Been looking at woodland to buy so we can keep it woodland and just have somewhere people can't go. I know, selfish!

IAmTheDuke · 03/05/2021 21:01

A compact park but with a couple of really good, big play areas- one for younger kids with loads of equipment and then one with a zip wire, adventure trail etc for older kids. Quite enclosed too so safe to let dogs off. It’s just slightly off the town centre at the back of a housing estate and you’d never know it was there. My friend told me about it years ago but if I ever mention it to anyone else they’ve never been nor heard of it and some of them have lived round here for years. I only moved here a few years ago.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 03/05/2021 21:05

You are not the only one @flippertygibbit

MrsWombat · 03/05/2021 21:24

Not very secret locally but we live near the Thames Path and have some great spots for seal spotting. The cyclists whizz past oblivious. Also a fab nature reserve owned by a utility company.

DealWithGod · 03/05/2021 22:05

A circular walk with beautiful views of the mountains in one direction and the coast in the other. Went during a Bank Holiday and didn't see a soul (very unusual for our area); it was bliss.

sweetypop · 03/05/2021 22:15

I wonder if you're local to me
FoxyTheFox · 04/05/2021 07:33

I was about to describe the exact same scenario. Does one end of the nature reserve reach the 'lakes'? (Giant ponds, not lake district type lakes)

@MarjorieBouvier if we head inland, yes it does eventually. We're at the coastal end so tend to follow it in the other direction to the sea.
