One of the things I dislike about getting older is...

My increasing awareness of my shins. As in knowing that if I bump them, there'll be consequences

What's yours?

It's just such a bastard.

Men look good ageing we have to do all this.

GenderApostate19 · 25/04/2021 20:26

Waking at 4am 🤬 even though i’m up at 6.30 Mon-Fri to go and look after my 18 mo Grandson, I’m really looking forward to him going to Nursery two days a week from September. At the moment I’m counting days to half term and the big summer holiday (DD is a teacher).
Feeling knackered all the time, aching hands and hips.
I’m nearly 54.
I need to lose a couple of stones but it’s sooo hard.

FizzyPink · 25/04/2021 20:30

Weight gain

Having to consider what I have to do the next day when having a few drinks in the evening because I can no longer tolerate hangovers. A few years ago I’d be out all night, pop home for a shower and change of clothes and go straight into work the next day with no problems at all.

Lollypop701 · 25/04/2021 20:31

Hmmm... facial hair currently ok. However I have the odd stray hair from my nipple, I’m getting jowly which may be because I’m a stone overweight and my eyesight is shot. Good Botox is re recommended!

Loveistheonlyway · 25/04/2021 20:32

Jowly I hate it

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 25/04/2021 20:40

Wouldn't even know where to start but def not being able to lose weight by giving up cards for a couple of days is up there!

fairyannie · 25/04/2021 20:55

I stiffen up when I stop - really hurts to get going again.

I get out of breath really easily.

I can't bring words to mind - sometimes sound like a blithering idiot.

I think I'm starting to stammer.

I'm hairless down one half of legs and like a werewolf down other half of legs.

I've forgotten important appointments. (Including a wedding.)

I can't concentrate like I used to.

I have two frozen shoulders and as a result, I'm not sleeping much.

My hips lock after a good amount of walking.

I feel old.

I'm 54.

KillingMeDeftly · 25/04/2021 21:03

A lot of the issues mentioned here could be menopause-related. Has anyone found that HRT helps?

Darklane · 25/04/2021 21:07

Old age isn’t for wimps Confused

Chin hair definitely

Wonky hips makes going upstairs a marathon ditto putting socks on.

Get down on the floor & a bugger to try & get up again.

Trips to the loo every night & a quick dash there as soon as get home from even a short shopping trip.

Why is it when I eat only a quarter of what I used to eat I still put weight on
All my clothes have shrunk.

CockneyCutie · 25/04/2021 21:08

@PyjamaFan

I think you’ve got it spot-on when you said “losing your prettiness”

It’s definitely a ‘thing’... it takes so much bloody effort to look half decent once you get older, that being pretty doesn’t even come into it!! Nobody describes ladies of a certain age as being pretty - that’s a young persons description!
Since lockdown, even the thought of going out for the evening somewhere makes me feel a bit 😱
Choosing what to wear, buggering round with my hair, which shoes can I wear that don’t make me look like Thora Hird but also don’t cripple me, to drink or not to drink... can I cope with a hangover? Hoping the food is decent... and then the real game-changer.... Whats the earliest we can go home without looking rude?🤣🤣

DenisetheMenace · 25/04/2021 21:11

I’m vigorous and energetic but have knobbly, arthritic, witchy hands. Also can’t quite accept that I really need to take reading glasses with me when I shop: it’s bloody embarrassing to have to ask a shop assistant how much salt is in a product (young grandchild) because I vainly forgot them again and can’t read the label, even at arm’s length.

CockneyCutie · 25/04/2021 21:13

@KillingMeDeftly

Yes! HRT really helps me, it’s been a godsend. Made me feel a bit more like ‘me’ if you can understand that.
Gave me back my libido, stopped my hot flushes and hideous sweating.
Sadly, it didn’t take away the aches and pains and the tiredness, nor give me back my much-missed waistline (though my boobs got bigger to compensate🤷‍♀️)
It’s not a cure-all, but I’d fight you in the car park if you tried to take it off me!😂

peaceanddove · 25/04/2021 21:22

Actually I don't agree. My Auntie was a model back in the Sixties, so obviously was genetically blessed to begin with. But now she is mid 70s and is still definitely very pretty. She is quite heavily lined now, but has a heart shaped face, big eyes and amazing cheekbones. Visually, she is still far more striking and attractive than an average looking woman who might be 30 years younger.

PyjamaFan · 25/04/2021 21:43

Lucky her!

I, on the other hand, used to be pretty but now I'm not.

When I was in a pub in my 20s a random man handed me a balloon and said "my mates told me to give this balloon to the prettiest girl in the pub, so it's for you".

There's not a chance in hell that would happen now, aged mid 40s!

B1rdflyinghigh · 25/04/2021 21:44

Hairy big toes
Making the "ahhh" sound when I sit down. Shock

TheCanyon · 25/04/2021 21:48

When you go to the gp as a young one, EVERYTHING is pee on the stick first, you MUST be pregnant. I'm 34, clearly past my prime as I have dc, everything's now just cause I'm a tired stressed mum instead.

caringcarer · 25/04/2021 21:55

Tiredness and lower sex drive.

ServeTheServants · 25/04/2021 22:04

Some of the things mentioned here have had me laughing out loud, so thank you.

I’ve found I’m grateful for the early morning waking, as it takes a good 45 minutes for me to come round of a morning before I actually need to get up. On the rare occasion I’m woken by my alarm, I feel like I’ve been hit in the face (and look like it too...)

user1471423151 · 25/04/2021 22:07

Eyesight mainly. Had 20 20 vision for most of my life, now have readers stashed away in every room as I can’t read anything without them. When driving our cars or riding my motorbikes I can see the important stuff - speed, revs, but time, temperature, driver / rider aid settings are a mere blur. God it pisses me off.

coronafiona · 25/04/2021 22:08

Take zinc and magnesium supplements for sleep it really helps.

Sloth66 · 25/04/2021 22:11

Tired and yawning away by 9:30. I now go to bed at the time I used to start an evening out.
All I’m lacking is the ovaltine and slippers.

5128gap · 26/04/2021 12:14

It's just such a bastard.

Men look good ageing we have to do all this.

I would have to disagree with that. The older women I know all look and act at least ten years younger than the middle aged men. Men think they age better, and perpetuate the myth, but in my experience most of them don't fare that well at all.
adrianmolesmole · 26/04/2021 13:43

Agree with so many of these!

Achey knees - osteoarthritis
Short sightedness
Hair keeps going through thin phases and thick phases and with every thin phase I never know if it'll grow back again
And yes, the fartingBlushGrin

user1471538283 · 26/04/2021 15:35

Looking good in photographs. I always took a great photo. Now I look old or if i am lucky a bit mad.

I also had a good neck until recently. Now I've got a middle aged neck.

There is always something giving me gyp. It was one of my thighs last night. For no reason.

I feel horrendous if I have a late night, so not in bed reading by 9pm. If I have alcohol it takes days to recover.

torquewench · 26/04/2021 15:39

I had a bottle of wine on Saturday night and Im still feeling lethargic and dehydrated. The backs of my hands are crepey. I can feel thick chin hairs but cant see them well enough to get at them with a tweezer. I stood up before and my knees and ankles all made a loud cracking sound, one after another. My left hip is sore and I dont know why. Im not 50 for another 4 weeks 🙄
