Just watching Bones for the first time and absolutely gutted about Sweets which made me wonder which other tv deaths have upset MNers.

Lots of potential for spoilers here so apologies in advance.

Georgia in Line of Duty, plunging out of the window.
All the kids who died on the farm safety video 'Apaches' from the late 70s scared me shitless!

maddiemookins16mum · 23/04/2021 21:34

OMG, I have just started watching Greys. Only on series 3 - the boat accident. I’m gutted, but keeping these answers from DH.

MissisBee · 23/04/2021 21:34

Sybil in Downton Abbey. Her acting was so brilliant but then she haunted me when I was in hospital with pre-eclampsia a few years later.

In Line of Duty there was an officer who was murdered just after she'd come back from maternity leave. I found that very difficult to deal with and still think about her poor baby 😭

The dad in The Champ. I was really young and absolutely unconsolable.

Kenny McCormick in SouthparkGrin
Hodor

Denny in Greys Anatomy

Cried so much my teenage boys came upstairs to see what was the matter

Mercedes519 · 23/04/2021 21:36

The years and years one got me as well. I read an article at the time and originally Russell Tovey was going to survive and do the whole series. Then they realised how much more powerful it would be if he died when he didn’t need to be on the boat... and they were right. One of those moments that stay with you.

Like Lucy in ER when she realises that she is going to die. Moments when you’re just sat staring at the screen long after it’s finished.

PPCD · 23/04/2021 21:37

I can't believe noone has mentioned Mossy in Topsy and Tim Grin

Snorkelface · 23/04/2021 21:37

Another one for Mark Greene in ER - still feel sad whenever I hear the Israel Kamakawiwo'ole version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Andi2020 · 23/04/2021 21:39

Hayley in coronation street

ElaborateSalad · 23/04/2021 21:39

Yvonne from Bad Girls. Fatboy from Eastenders.

My viewing is generally more cultured, I swear!

HeronLanyon · 23/04/2021 21:41

flouncing around I remember that death in MASH. used to watch with my family as a kid one of the few things we were ‘allowed’ to watch. Cried a lot. Good memories.

StationView · 23/04/2021 21:41

@CEJJMM

Simon Donovan - West Wing
YY - a few of us have mentioned him. I only watched 'The West Wing' a few years ago and I was properly shocked when he was shot. I couldn't talk to anyone about it, though, because it had happened fifteen years previously!
UserEleventyNine · 23/04/2021 21:41

Matthew in Downton Abbey for me. I didn’t see it coming at all and it was Christmas Day.

Wasn't it the same Christmas that Arthur died in Merlin? My mum was a fan of both and she thought it was a very depressing Christmas.

Welshponyslave · 23/04/2021 21:41

Richard Briars’ character in Monarch of the Glen, I was still in a state the next day 😂
Rachel from Cold Feet
Poussy and then Pennsatucky.
Quite a lot of the Walking Dead deaths. God Sophia when she came out the barn! Also Hershal, I still get upset about his death. Then Beth, Carried out by Darryl. Abraham and Carl.

iklboo · 23/04/2021 21:42

Christopher Eccleston in Cracker. Killed by Robert Carlisle.

EmeraldEagle · 23/04/2021 21:42

Katie in Containment, didn't for a minute think she'd actually die! Was in bits 😭

HeronLanyon · 23/04/2021 21:44

dream I confess my first thought was the end of the Gregory peck film The Yearling. I cried so hard about that horse I was sick and had to be put to bed.

HalfBrick · 23/04/2021 21:44

Love that 3 of Russell T Davies' programmes have been mentioned. He's the best TV writer.
Mine is also Cucumber, Jesus H, I don't watch anything violent for a reason! This STILL plays on my mind.

Death in film - Thomas J (Macauley Culkin) in My Girl, watched it when I was about 12 😭😭😭

Robin233 · 23/04/2021 21:44

Some one mention Lance pryce in mad men played by Jared Harris.
Also George VI - the crown
Valery. - in Chernobyl
He seems to die in everything he does - very underrated actor.

DitchinVirgin · 23/04/2021 21:45

Oh and Bea in Wentworth. Such an incredibly awful life and a triumphant but such a sad death to watch.

Costaheaven · 23/04/2021 21:45

Rachel in Cold Feet - so well acted by Adam et al

Twinwife1018 · 23/04/2021 21:45

Lucy Knight in ER no doubt! That scene with Carter , can still remember watching it age 15 or so and it shocking me.

That and McDreamy on Greys

Peanutbutterandbananatoastie · 23/04/2021 21:46

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

Thomas J in My girl. He can't see without his glasses 😭
How could you make me cry like that? I know I haven’t seen that film I was little but it always makes me cry, I’ll never forget that glasses line.

As a lot people have said Lucy in ER.

The Red Wedding.

Shane, Angel’s boyfriend in Home and Away, couldn’t remember his name so looked up Angel on Wikipedia, man those storylines are wild!
