Seriously good prosecco

Can anyone point me towards a very, very good bottle of prosecco- there is no budget. I don't drink so I would have absolutely no idea if the stuff I would potentially be buying is only fit for cleaning the toilet.

Its needed for a gift for someone who I know drinks the stuff and has gone above and beyond to help me out.

Thanks.

Sainsbury’s Cognieliano (purple label, taste the difference) is my absolute favourite (and I’ve drank a lot of the stuff)

Lidls had a beautiful pear-like crisp one with a green label last year that was superb, but when I bought it at the beginning of this year it was nowhere near as good. Different batch I guess. The Sainsbury’s one above is consistent.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 23/04/2021 14:15

Hmm if it’s a gift though that might not be the right fit. The problem is, Prosecco really isn’t something that needs to be expensive to be good. Don’t they drink champagne?

MissyB1 · 23/04/2021 14:20

The only one I really like (and I’ve tried loads) is Asda extra special. Although my sister swears by M&S.

If you want to buy Champagne instead definitely look at M&S.

Alessandro Gallici Prosecco is good OP

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 23/04/2021 14:22

Champagne.

HowToBringABlushToTheSnow · 23/04/2021 14:22

Whispering Angel is the best though, absolutely gorgeous prosecco

ChubbyLittleManInACampervan · 23/04/2021 14:23

Champagne

Or, just as good as champagne , “Cremant”

Sorry that's rose. I'll get my coat Hmm

I would always go with champagne (Bollinger is the best imho) but if they don't drink champagne then get as expensive a bottle of prosecco as you can but make sure its a D'Oc and not a Spumante. D'Oc is the better tasting.

Plump82 · 23/04/2021 14:26

My sister gave me a bottle of Aldi Organic Prosecco and it's delicious and very drinkable!!

FantasticMissFox · 23/04/2021 14:26

Prosecco is made with the worst of the grapes, so there isn't really one that's better than others. I'd go champagne or cremant.

TheDogsMother · 23/04/2021 14:27

The Adnams one is lovely.

BigusBumus · 23/04/2021 14:34

The problem with Prosecco is that it suddenly became very popular 10 years ago and the price and therefore the quality has become really low.

Its popularity forced many of the old Cava houses to close. Only the really decent ones remained and upped their game and now the quality of Cava available quite surpasses the bog standard Proseccos out there.

There is a fabulous Cava called Anna in a white bottle that is sold in Waitrose for about £13 I think which is much more like champagne than any of the Alka Seltzer-like Proseccos about.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 23/04/2021 14:40

Cava has definitely upped its game!

AngusThermopyle · 23/04/2021 14:43

I'd go with a nice crémant instead of prosecco, or a champagne, but this is quite nice (to me 😬)
Don't know if they stock it elsewhere.

Crémant de Loire Blanc de Blancs, for £17.99 at]]

Janaih · 23/04/2021 14:44

My favourite ones are
M&S
Asda extra special
Martini (make sure its prosecco not asti)

Frexinet and Cordoni cavas are very tasty too.

Cowbells · 23/04/2021 14:46

I agree that Cremant de Loire is much nicer than most proseccos. You can get a really good one for around £12-15.

Also, if they love sparkling wine generally, the best British sparkling wines are incredible. Same price as champagne but every bit as good. Camel Valley and Bluebell Hindleap are my favourites - both just under £30 a bottle so a proper thank you present.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 23/04/2021 14:47

A brilliant U.K. ‘champagne’ is Nytimber. It’s lovely.

Kracken · 23/04/2021 15:36

This prosecco is really lovely and they also do it in a magnum size! www.nakedwines.com/products/sacchetto-col-de-l-utia-prosecco-superiore-organic-2020

Kracken · 23/04/2021 15:40

Sorry, I cannot get this link to post right! If you Google 'naked wines prosecco sacchetto' it does come up.

DinosaurDiana · 23/04/2021 15:41

I much prefer Prosecco to champagne.
The Sainsbury’s pink Taste the difference is delicious

actiongirl1978 · 23/04/2021 15:42

Prosecco is pretty poor tasting.

We drink Cremant now. Usually the ones from Waitrose but I am sure if you look at the wine society you'll find more expensive options.

On champagne we had Pol Roger for parents golden wedding last week and it was seriously tasty.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 23/04/2021 15:45

Had a fab Lidl Cava can't remember than name helpful--

Mammymar · 23/04/2021 15:45

Aldi do a lovely prosecco and the Graham Norton one is nice too. If your friend likes prosecco, go for that and not champagne. I've also found the cheaper bottles are nicer so wouldn't waste money on an expensive bottle. Is there any way you can find out what prosecco they already like?
