Oh it's missing the second half, sums up my day. The other bit says but right now you're being an asshole

squishymamma · 17/05/2021 18:55

Evening all!

@drumst1ck glad to hear all went smoothly and that your kids are enjoying their little break. Bet it's heavenly for the in laws too!

@Motherofmonsters crossing fingers that the impetigo clears up fast - especially since DS doesn't seem too bothered about it and I imagine quite enjoys preschool (not to mention it's a nice breather for you!)

@Chocolatetrifle that's so sad about the bird! We had a bird fly into our window, it dropped down onto the balcony and was breathing heavily so I figured it'd fly away when it had recovered...10 minutes later it had died. I felt so guilty for being the one with the window Grin

It's Norway's national day today so we've been celebrating with friends, lots of junk food and champagne. DS went down surprisingly easy tonight, but he's formed a habit of waking up at like 2am and being wide awake so I'm dreading tonight. Might go to bed early just to get enough hours in!

squishymamma · 17/05/2021 19:01

@footprintsintheslow I've never heard of the term 'praise refuser' before. Have no experience of this aspect of toddlers yet so can't give any advice, but it sounds really exhausting, especially with a baby. Sending a virtual wine/hot beverage!

@squishymamma nor me but she actually said "have you heard the phrase praise refuser" like it's an actual thing.

Motherofmonsters · 17/05/2021 19:51

Any one else feel like the world is against you, trying to do double bedtime and DD will not go to sleep. I've been stuck here forever and DS is yet again waiting ages for me. Sorry I've not contributed much today other than throwing myself a pity party. Tomorrow I will be a non shouty, positive, upbeat mummy.. (hopefully)

Lostthetastefordahlias · 17/05/2021 20:24

Don’t apologise @Motherofmonsters we are here for the shite days as well as the inspired ones! Makes the (many) days when my sanity is hanging by a very thin thread seem more normal. Just hope tomorrow is kinder.
@footprintsintheslow I would also love to know how to deal with my nearly 3 yr old completely ignoring me ha. The only things I have found that work sometimes are saying “in 5 minutes we are going to do x” (if its a planned activity). If she is ignoring me sometimes I say “please look at my face” and then repeat instructions, sometimes works for some reason; also saying “i’m not going to change my mind” sometimes focuses her. But really I have no idea Grin

OhToBeASeahorse · 18/05/2021 05:56

Gosh praise refuser struck terror into my heart - that sounds exhausting.

@Motherofmonsters dont feel bad, I know exactly what you mean. Liie please I just need a bit of good luck.

DD woke up at 4.50. DH has got her back off but she woke DS up. So we are now downstairs watching Duggee while my eyes quietly burn.

squishymamma · 18/05/2021 08:29

@Motherofmonsters hope the night went well in the end, and like the others said, don't worry about being negative here - it really helps me to know we have this place where we can just complain with no judgement Smile especially as DM just says "well he is just a baby"...yes, I know, but I also would like to sleep and have a kind of good time too!!

@OhToBeASeahorse lots of caffeine required this morning then? We were also up at 5am but managed to get DS back to sleep until 6.30, which for me is a major victory. HV appointment today and his MMR vaccine so a day off nursery, I'm trying to work in the meantime and he's not having any of it. Also has a mini waterfall coming out of his mouth so I'm guessing tonight will be fun if there's vaccine-related effects and teething...

Hope you all have a good day Smile

Motherofmonsters · 18/05/2021 08:32

Morning everyone, thanks for letting me moan. I may explode otherwise. I've got my positive hat on although DS unprompted has just informed me that today is a grumpy day....

Motherofmonsters · 18/05/2021 08:34

On no @ohtobeaseahorse sounds like it's going to be a long day. I hate when they wake up early.

Hope the jobs go okay @squishymama it's always daunting to see how they react.

Chocolatetrifle · 18/05/2021 08:38

@OhToBeASeahorse, ugh, it's awful when they get up so early, it just makes the start of the day so hard and the day seem long. Hope you are ok.
I've never heard of a praise refuser either. My DS1 does sometimes seem to not like praise and goes shy but other times enjoys it. I do think it's all down to mood.

@Motherofmonsters, how are you feeling today, how was the night?

@squishymamma, good luck for the vaccines, lots of cuddles tonight I think and Calpol.

Am attempting to get everyone ready to go to the park/playground before it rains but teeth cleaning and getting dressed are being refused! Want to get out and back before it rains.

Hope everyone is ok and has a nice day

OhToBeASeahorse · 18/05/2021 09:32

@Chocolatetrifle the morning battles are so frustrating. We realised we didn't really have any routine for the morning so we've started insisting on getting dressed and brushing teeth straight after breakfast. It means no taking it easy but after about a week the tantrums stopped. Instill have to carry him upstairs usually cos he doesnt want to go but its cut out the 'after this Duggee..' nonsense.

We managed to get a swim slot for 8am today,it was brilliant, DS loved it

OhToBeASeahorse · 18/05/2021 09:33

@squishymamma good luck with the jabs - never s fun experience

PinkDaydreams · 18/05/2021 09:47

Morning all!

Well my moan about the lack of sun must have worked as it's sunny today! DS is in nursery so I plan to get some work done in the garden......after my cup of tea and jammie toast Grin

Sounds like we are all having a tough time with sleep, across all age ranges too. My 3 year old ds woke at 2am until 5.30am yesterday which really isn't like him.

squishymamma · 18/05/2021 09:59

DH has taken DS for the visit and I'm experiencing really mixed emotions about it, it's the first time I haven't been there but I have so much work to get done...I'm sure I'm just being silly as DS doesn't share my hatred of needles but I hate not being there to cuddle him through it Sad so yes definitely lots of cuddles (and plenty of Calpol) tonight!

I'm wondering if our collective sleep problems are due to the sun rising much earlier? We at least have no blackout blinds but are 100% going to invest when we move next month. Very keen to see if it helps. Though that doesn't really explain the 2am waking...toddlers are such an enigma

Motherofmonsters · 18/05/2021 10:19

I think I've got your rain @pinkdaydreams, it's absolutely pouring down. Good job I can't really go anywhere.

We've got a black out blind and it does help with DS but he know looks behind it to see if it's sunny. He won't sleep if it's sunny so he's going to sleep really late. Luckily he just plays in his room though.

MonkeyPuddle · 18/05/2021 10:35

Morning all.

Hope we all have better days!

Blackout curtains definitely improved DS’s sleep, luckily he never gets out of bed without being told he can, he literally shouts ‘mummy mummy mummy’ in the morning until I tell him to get up.

I’m home with the baby today, managed to pull my back and it’s bloody agony, max doses of paracetamol and ibuprofen and a hot water bottle, fun. Especially as DD just wants me on the floor with her all the time while she rolls about.

Have fed DD some prunes as she’s constipated so I’m waiting for the inevitable bumplosion.

Chocolatetrifle · 18/05/2021 11:38

@MonkeyPuddle ouch, that sounds painful. Hope you feel better soon.

footprintsintheslow · 18/05/2021 11:41

@Lostthetastefordahlias thanks for the reply I must remember to do these things.

I found a good 'at your tea' game which I can't believe works. You get them to close their eyes. You put food in and they guess what food it is. It's ridiculous but she loves it and works well with a roast dinner rather than a one pot thing obviously.

@squishymamma hope the vaccine goes well. Well done for having it done.

@MonkeyPuddle hope your back gets better VERY soon as it's agony isn't it.

Toddler at nursery with H doing drop off and pick up so it feels like we've had a loooomh break today which is fab. I've managed to to a bit of gardening so I feel good. Off to a new baby sing rhyme class (outdoors). I've been doing it online so it'll be great to see them in real life

Chocolatetrifle · 18/05/2021 12:51

@OhToBeASeahorse, yep, teeth and clothes on after breakfast, not sure why DS1 doesn't like cleaning his teeth though. Trying to get him to show his little brother how it's done. It's a battle most days, it's like he can't be bothered with it and getting dressed is too much effort. Found it helps to get him to do as much of getting dressed himself, he ends up with his vest in a twist over his head!Smile.

Made it to the park, really pleased as DS1 allowed a similar aged boy to use the slide before him and the other boy was just shouting 'no, no , no!'. Then Ds1 gave the boy his toy that had fallen on the floor.

Unfortunately he didn't want to walk home or stand on the buggy board, so had to wheel the peak with him sort of sitting/lying on the buggy board, dragging his feet all the way home. Then hi flushed his brother's socks down the toilet, so I guess it's all swings and roundabouts at this🍫❣️

Chocolatetrifle · 18/05/2021 12:53

-posted too soon! At this age! Love that the random emojis that just typed then mean love chocolate!

@footprintsintheslow, your baby class sounds lovely, hope you have a great time.

Have a great afternoon.

footprintsintheslow · 18/05/2021 18:10

@Chocolatetrifle @OhToBeASeahorse can I get in on the teeth brushing chat. I brush the 3 year olds teeth as soon as she gets up on nursery days so it's done out of the way as if I don't do it immediately I forget altogether. I know I should do it after breakfast but I like to get our battle out of the way. We also get dressed before breakfast which is risk but again it's done. Then eating porridge can have as much time as it needs.

The socks made me laugh @Chocolatetrifle Laugh a lot so thanks.

Baby sing thing was nice. It's actually inside the grounds of a castle and the sun was out so it was lovely. We then came home and made a giant pan of soup to clear the fridge out before going on holiday. Toddler loved cutting the courgette up so we've had a really positive afternoon. H is grumpy which is taking the shine off but there we are. 🙄

Lostthetastefordahlias · 18/05/2021 18:30

Always one of them isnt it footprintsGrin. Have a lovely holiday.
We found a playground with a roundabout today which was very popular for some reason. DS has been a moany baby all afternoon, tried everything to no avail and my nerves are in shreds. 30mins to bedtime

Chocolatetrifle · 18/05/2021 18:30

@footprintsintheslow Grin, I could give you a list of what he's flushed down the toilet recently! ( underpants, bouncy ball, toothbrush, I think the worst was one of those Spanish style hand fold up fans that went down my Mum's) I'm praying the toilets don't block.

Have you tried the light up toothbrush? You can get a Peppa Pig one your DD might like? We've had some success with a toothbrush song, Elmo from Sesame St does one on You Tube. Also the Wiggles do a brush your teeth song.

Men, honestly their grumps are very annoying, they are worse than toddlers at times. When are you off on your holiday? Will be something to look forward to Smile.

MonkeyPuddle · 18/05/2021 18:33

@Chocolatetrifle oh I’m sorry but toilet socks has made me smile!

My back has eased up, have found that my massive pants hold the hot water bottle in the right place, another plus for massive pants.

@footprintsintheslow that baby class sounds fab! In a castle! How exciting!

DP has DS and the baby in the bath. The baby has just done a poo in the bath Grin and I’m just sitting and drinking my cup of tea.
