Inspired by another thread by HensTeeth44, here is a thread for lovers of fan fiction either writer or just an avid reader.

I do have some unfinished Harry Potter fan fic to share but I'm at working at the moment.

Dont be afraid to share your favourites.

I'm sat at work trying figure out if I can write some fanfic and work at the same time.

I cannot.

I'm looking after my DC at a park and vaguely kicking around some ideas about what the Room of Requirement might provide you with for sex.

Interested in this thread?

I wonder if the room of requirement is a perve. Will it turn into a sex dungeon if you ask?

OP posts:
bunglebee · 23/04/2021 11:32

Right? Does it give you what you want, or what it thinks you'd want? The kink potential is endless.

MrsGulDukat · 23/04/2021 11:34

And the beauty of it is, you'd never have to clean it because it all disappears.

I'm a fanfic fan - I've posted a James Bond one on AO3 but others are in such niche fandoms I'd be outing myself.

I tend to read fandoms where the stories are mainly at least literate and interesting. Which means I rarely glance at HP unless I get a recommendation, as it's so hard to find the good stuff.

At the other end of the spectrum, Dorothy Sayers fic is invariably excellent but so hard to meet that standard that there's almost none of it.

I often search AO3 for 'completed works only' and >2500 words, as most of the unreadably-bad works are very short. FF.net tends to have even higher dross ratio in the fandoms I've looked at, so I haven't checked for a few years.

Any other tips for finding good stuff apart from avoiding fandoms beloved of teenagers? Some older fandoms are quite good - Serenity/Firefly, Bond, The Professionals, Chalet School and Antonia Forest...

MrsGulDukat · 23/04/2021 12:11

Go for explicit or mature mostly. Check for tags too.

bunglebee · 23/04/2021 12:19

When you find a quality author, check their bookmarks/favourites. Odds are they will have bookmarked only good stuff.

ShakeaHettyFeather · 23/04/2021 13:41

@MrsGulDukat If only... The amount of totally unrealistic sex scenes produced by virginal teenagers...

But tags reminds me - if the list of story tags is longer than say 20, don't bother with the story. Especially if any of them include 'ha ha' in.

Recs from good authors are definitely a rabbit-hole I run down!

MrsGulDukat · 23/04/2021 13:49

Good point.

I only use a handful of tags at most. No point banging a load of tags in.

OP posts:
MrsGulDukat · 23/04/2021 13:51

I like to think my sex scenes are pretty good. The only thing I struggle with is the kissing part.

MrsFionaCharming · 23/04/2021 13:57

I love fanfiction, but I think I spend as much time filtering tags as I do reading, particularly in HP. The exclude tags function is so useful though, being able to instantly filter out “incest”, “vaginal fishing” and “harem” do make it much faster to find something semi decent.

Few things are as disappointing as when you get really into a show, go to check and there’s only a handful of fics!

MrsGulDukat · 23/04/2021 14:13

Vaginal fishing?

Lord I hope that's a typo.

YouJustDoYou · 23/04/2021 14:17

I used to read seaQuest waaaaay back in the day (over 20 years ago), there's still the odd story posted on it even now!

MrsFionaCharming · 23/04/2021 16:01

😂😂 that should have said fisting

MrsGulDukat · 23/04/2021 16:06

@MrsFionaCharming

I thought it was fisting but its AO3, you never know.

OP posts:
MrsGulDukat · 23/04/2021 22:36

So it turns out vaginal fishing is actually a thing.

OP posts:
MrsFionaCharming · 23/04/2021 23:43

Only one hit on AO3 😂

I mostly used to read Star Trek fanfic with a smattering of Mass Effect fic.

After binging The Expanse, I've read a few decent fics for that show. Surprising amount of Avasarala/Draper on there, wasn't aware they were considered a common headcanon.

I only have one cringey fanfic to my name, a Star Trek Voyager one written over a decade ago, where Tom Paris has erectile dysfunction. Blush

MrsGulDukat · 24/04/2021 11:29

@QuibbleTribble

No Maximum warp for him then.

bunglebee · 24/04/2021 11:47

I'm still holding out for those Bucky/Sam recs, especially after last night's finale!

peachgreen · 24/04/2021 14:22

All of these @bunglebee. Perfection. archiveofourown.org/users/notcaycepollard/pseuds/notcaycepollard
