My mum reckons most people will be watching BBC. What are you watching? BBC for me and my mum (separate homes)

'For those in peril in the sea' Beautiful
The Sailor's Hymn 😥

BBC. For some reason watching ITV for something like this seems wrong, not sure why.

It must be so tough for them all, knowing their grief is being played out for the country to see.

ApplyWithin · 17/04/2021 15:17

The music is just beautiful.

UsedToBeSeventeen · 17/04/2021 15:17

Can you imagine the headlines if Harry had sat next to her?

korawick12345 · 17/04/2021 15:17

@Roszie

It's inhumane for everyone who has had to sit by themselves during the pandemic.

No way the queen would want to be seen to be treated differently. Even if she could have had Harry or someone.

Oh i totally agree, I think they way people have had there grieving impacted by the pandemic is one of the most upsetting aspects.
KingscoteStaff · 17/04/2021 15:17

BBC

Yeap Queen gets it unlike some political figures.

diddl · 17/04/2021 15:18

@Eggsley

I think the fact that there are only 30 people allowed there means it seems much more intimate than I would have expected. It's very moving.
Probably more how he would have wanted it?

People who genuinely knew him & cared about him?

I agree, it just feels so cruel on a human level, as another PP said it is one of the greatest cruelties of this pandemic.
ShurImGrand123 · 17/04/2021 15:19

Watching on the BBC, my first thought was I wonder if Kim Jong-un is taking notes? He loves a military occasion.

SirSamuelVimes · 17/04/2021 15:19

The people who organised this have done such a good job. To have stripped it back to such a degree but still feel stately is a real achievement.

RampantIvy · 17/04/2021 15:19

BBC has far to much talking and commentary

Eh?
There has been hardly any commentary.

Grumpylate20s · 17/04/2021 15:20

Watching it on ITV cos I like the narrative better.
Falling asleep though. Sleep dep is real

Eggsley · 17/04/2021 15:20

@diddl yes I agree.

I meant it seems as though the cameras shouldn't be there really, like they are intruding on a family's grief, even more so than if the chapel was full of people.

ScienceSensibility · 17/04/2021 15:20

My gosh when I realised they were taking the coffin UP those steps!

Magnificent work from those chaps. Outstanding. My legs would be shaking with the responsibility.

I think the cap and sword are sewn onto Prince Philip’s standard. Given the flowers didn’t move an inch, they must be sewn as well?

Watching Sophie bowing with her arms around her children, also bowing, was a terribly moving moment.

Welby has an awful speaking manner. His reading sounds like he is giving his takeaway order over the phone.

This.

Whatever you think of a monarchy we can say that PP and the Queen have always followed the rules and never put themselves as above them.

She will have staff in her bubble as well - her lady in waiting travelled in the car with her.

Tana433 · 17/04/2021 15:20

Not a royalist by any means but this makes me proud to be British. Beautiful and dignified send off. Our poor Queen she looks so lost. God love her.

I think though that the procession & surroundings would always make it stately.

Yes it is very good indeed and quite appropriate in the current situation. I liked the Land Rover touch.

@eddiemairswife

BBC on the red button; no Huw Edwards, just the ambient background music/noise.
If only I had known that - Huw Edwards just didn’t shut up, and ruined it. I would have preferred to have just heard the bands.
HouseofWindsor · 17/04/2021 15:22

Beautiful music and hymns- well done Prince Philip.
