My mum reckons most people will be watching BBC. What are you watching? BBC for me and my mum (separate homes)

BBC

God that was upsetting.

Beautiful too, especially the music and the glorious weather but very sad - the carriage and the sugar lump tub and Charle's face.

Very poignant.

The queen was stoic as usual.

I don't like now we do trad funerals in UK.
Not more than Razzmatazz... Although Peter o toole daughters did waltz down the ailse at his funeral.

If you've heard or seen African Christian funerals.. Seem warmer.. Warm singing.. Priests seem to actually mean what they say...

Something rousing...

The unique part was the land rover.

I'm not too familiar with African funerals but I know the sort of singing you refer to. Lively, warm harmonies, regular beat etc.But this wasn't the occasion for that.

English Church Music is very different and,if you're not familiar with it or not naturally attracted to it, it can seem less immediate. Its complexity does not mean it has less impact; the harmonies of,say,William Byrd or Thomas Tallis are just amazing.

But horses for courses and all that. You don't have to like it but maybe best to be a bit more restrained on an emotional day for many.

Can't think how you don't like the organ, though. You need to hear it played properly Wink

TheBullfinch · 17/04/2021 16:37

Charles' face obviously.

SallySycamore · 17/04/2021 16:38

The only bit about the music I wasn't sure about (although I can understand why they did it) was replacing the treble with a soprano. She was a fantastic singer, but it didn't sound quite the same.

In reply to the question posed in the thread title:

FR2 (French domestic TV channel), where it was broadcast in full.

Not much if anything said by anybody in the studio during the service itself, just a translation of anything being spoken.

Some comment afterwards but overall nicely done..

Mammyloveswine · 17/04/2021 16:41

Why did the bbc news say Prince Phillips "children, grandchildren and great grandchildren" were there..there were no great grandchildren there?

Obv edwards children are the youngest grandchildren so wonder if the newsreader got confused?

Whereverilaymycat · 17/04/2021 16:42

I watched the Royal family channel on YouTube. I quite liked just watching it without any presenters etc. Normally I watch the BBC.

Lampzade · 17/04/2021 16:42

I always watch royal events on BBC.
Just has more gravitas

ineedaholidaynow · 17/04/2021 16:43

@Mammyloveswine I noticed that

ServedWithAReg15 · 17/04/2021 16:43

I noticed that Mammy, i think it was a mistake, there were no great grandchildren behind the coffin (that I saw)

GillBungalow · 17/04/2021 16:43

Lady Louise and Viscount Severn (Prince Edward and Sophie’s children)
DeciduousPerennial · 17/04/2021 16:45

No, I’m getting confused now!

ServedWithAReg15 · 17/04/2021 16:45

They said following the coffin, i don’t they followed the coffin, I do think it was just a mistake.

Radio4Rocks · 17/04/2021 16:47

I think someone needs to get a dictionary and look up the meaning of droll.

Embarrassing.

ScandiNoir · 17/04/2021 16:47

Always BBC

1forAll74 · 17/04/2021 16:51

Always BBC.

After feeling quite sad about the funeral, the overuse of the word 'droll' by someone who doesn't even know what it means has rather cheered me up Grin

It was a simple dignified service and I thought the music was beautiful.

Yes - this sums it up well.

Inkanta · 17/04/2021 17:23

Very beautiful and moving. Wasn't expecting to cry - just the family there made it personal, and his beloved Land Rover and horse and cart.

Dontjudgeme101 · 17/04/2021 17:23

Bbc

ginghamtablecloths · 17/04/2021 17:23

BBC - they are traditional for these things, they just are.

@ApplyWithin

I was wondering where Sarah Chatto was as well.
On (youtube) I think that at about 1min24 that's her to the left of Princess Anne. Don't blink though!
