My mum reckons most people will be watching BBC. What are you watching? BBC for me and my mum (separate homes)

@Rillington, its a funeral, not karaokee. No one needs you singing along. They have it covered beautifully!

Nanny0gg · 17/04/2021 15:30

@Tullyjune

These singers are incredible. Is their main job being a chorister? Do they sing elsewhere professionally, like the west end? Or are they unpaid?
I assume they're choristers

Watching Sky....

I am glad they are focusing on the singers and long shots. Not a royalist, but it is somehow very touching.

Does anyone know why the lady chorister is in black not white and red?

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 17/04/2021 15:30

I’m so sad for the Queen sitting alone, and all the people who have had to do so alone this year. One of the most devastating of the covid restrictions.

Wowthisisreal · 17/04/2021 15:30

@ScienceSensibility I agree with you about the COVID aspect. I find I am in tears because this feels like a national funeral for all those who have died and I'm crying for all those who lost loved ones over the past year and sat alone at funerals.

It's so cruel.

Tullyjune · 17/04/2021 15:30

@Nanny0gg is that a full time job I wonder?

ILoveYou3000 · 17/04/2021 15:31

William and Harry both crying 😢

GreenSlide · 17/04/2021 15:31

I found myself getting a bit teary when they brought him out of his home, and I'm not a royalist at all. PP and the Queen are like a pair of grandparents that you never go to visit but are still really fond of.

She looks so small all on her own. I wonder if she'll do a Queen Victoria and wear black forever now?

Agree. It's hitting home how many have faced this over the past year.

And many of them premature deaths or horrendous ones.

LagneyandCasey · 17/04/2021 15:33

@Rillington

Sky for me. Not loving the music. I like when you can sing along. I can't even understand what they are saying.
Really? It's a funeral and Prince Philip apparently chose the music himself. I think it's beautiful.

I hope they hug when the cameras disappear.

They understand grief more than most - they were so young when their mum had a very public and premature death.

CockneyCutie · 17/04/2021 15:33

Was doing ok watching this until I saw the Queen, so tiny, sat on her own... oh dear, started welling up - then when “For those in peril on the Sea” was played, I was in floods! My long departed DDad was ex-Royal Navy WW2, and we had this hymn at his funeral. Brought it all back.
It must be unbearable not having your loved ones sat with you... we seem to get through funerals with hugs, little squeezes of hands, little whispers of support - but this situation seems so cruel.
Much love to all of those who have had to go through funerals in this pandemic, it must be heartbreaking for you. 💐

Allington · 17/04/2021 15:34

Yes, my father died in August at 93. It does feel symbolic of many deaths.

elp30 · 17/04/2021 15:34

Im in the US and I'm watching it on the Sky News app on the Roku.

It's very moving since there is no commentary.

BBC. ITV don’t do these events as well, they’d probably also drag out Slebs like Amanda Holden or Barrowman to kill time.

The men are (professional) Lay Clerks of the chapel choir ie regular members so are wearing their normal garb - cassock and surplice. She's a professional singer but not a usual member of the (all male) choir.

The music is beautiful. Glad they aren't doing many royal family close ups. Must look up the order of the garter. It added a strange touch of Carry On in to the solemnity
