Would you go hairdressers with unwashed hair

Finally my hair appointment today!
I last washed my hair on Monday, usually only wash it once a week, would you wash it today before going to the hairdressers?
Friend says she would never go to the hairdressers with unwashed hair which made me think maybe I should wash it this morning but I really can't be bothered

My hairdresser likes it if I turn up with dirty hair for colour.
I think her reasoning is it takes the dye better.

Arrierttyclock · 15/04/2021 08:37

I wash my hair once or twice a week but deff wouldn't wash it for the hairdressers! If you're getting a colour it goes on better with unwashed hair anyway

BobbuhT · 15/04/2021 08:38

Why would I if They are going to wash it anyway. I would not go out full stop with greasy hair so my hair would only be on day two or 3 max if it's winter and I haven't sweated.

Not freshly washed, not stinky and greasy.

SmashedAvocado · 15/04/2021 08:40

I’d have washed it last night considering I had an appointment today in your situation but I wash my hair daily and would have washed it and left it damp before a hairdresser appointment so they didn’t need to wash it anyway. Couldn’t bear someone having to put their hands through my dirty oily hair!

Chunkymenrock · 15/04/2021 08:41

I go for a colour and cut every 6 weeks or so and the colour is put onto dry hair, and so as long as it isn't greasy or dirty then I wouldn't wash it first.

freeandfierce · 15/04/2021 08:41

I'm a hairdresser - don't wash it! No need to and depending what you're having freshly washed hair makes the service more difficult.

Justfornothing · 15/04/2021 08:41

I really can't decide.

I'm having a colour and cut. It's doesn't feel greasy but because I have quite dark roots it looks more greasy than it usually would,m

Thank you, that's decided for me - I'm not washing it

Definitely don't wash it.

Since COVID my hairdresser has asked everyone to wash their hair before coming to minimise risk.

LaceyBetty · 15/04/2021 08:46

For colour you go with unwashed hair, but I wouldn't go with hair that hasn't been washed since Monday. Just one day not washed (ie not washed morning of appt but washed the day before).

BobbuhT · 15/04/2021 08:47

Covid infested hair 😂

ADragonCalledKeith · 15/04/2021 08:48

I don't. When I was a bit more flush with cash, I'd book a trim that day just so I didn't have to wash and blow dry my hair! Pisses me off having to do it all the time.

IliveonCoffee · 15/04/2021 08:49

I don't wash it. I tend to arrange my hair washing around the appointment, so its not grotty but does benefit from the wash at the hairdressers.

Tbh I think my unwashed hair is the least of the hairdressers problems...my hair is inevitably a ball of frizz and split ends, with barely any resemblance of a style left. Its almost like I come out a completely different person by the time I'm done.

Queenoftheashes · 15/04/2021 08:50

How bloody ridiculous. Why would you wash it twice in a day? I go with filthy hair normally, as per the hairdresser’s instructions.

SpringtimeSummertime · 15/04/2021 08:51

@HavfrueDenizKisi

Well my theory is if you go in with your hair looking it's best - washed and styled but needing a trim, then the hairdresser has to improve on that. But if you rock up with unwashed hair scraped up into a ponytail they have a lower starting point!! Just one of those odd things I do; so I'd say wash it. 😁
Me too! They can see how I like it styled if I do it myself before the appointment. Much easier for them to see what’s left of the previous cut too.
HedgleyTheHedgehog · 15/04/2021 08:53

@SummerHouse

I would not wash it. I would also not clean before the cleaner came round. If I had a cleaner.
I work with somebody that arranged for an oven cleaner to come to their house. The evening before they cleaned their oven so it wasn't too bad for the oven cleaner

I've never been able to get my head around this

dementedpixie · 15/04/2021 08:54

Freshly washed hair is harder to manage when doing a colour. My hairdresser prefers if you go with unwashed hair

Barney60 · 15/04/2021 08:54

I wash mine and style it, so i can explain exactly how where i want it cutting, and what im aiming for.

CoffeeWithCheese · 15/04/2021 08:54

I tend to wash mine the day before - but I'm always going to have the shit bleached out of it and then a colour over the top and it's what my hairdresser says works best for her and my hair.

Oh and be prepared for the envious looks you get from other women if you've managed to get a hairdresser appointment this week - I've had a few openly looking daggers at me when I popped into Tesco post hairdo on Tuesday (and really obviously just having had it done)!

Lorw · 15/04/2021 08:55

I don’t wash mine beforehand and only wash once a week- my hairdresser would be fuming if I washed it before going to an appointment because it would be frizzy and unmanageable 😂

Twoforthree · 15/04/2021 09:00

I go TO THE hairdressers with unwashed hair.

Sorry, couldn't help that.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 15/04/2021 09:01

I’m laughing too. Getting close to someone, especially around the face is fine but dirty hair is a risk? Grin such horseshit.
