Would you go hairdressers with unwashed hair

Finally my hair appointment today!
I last washed my hair on Monday, usually only wash it once a week, would you wash it today before going to the hairdressers?
Friend says she would never go to the hairdressers with unwashed hair which made me think maybe I should wash it this morning but I really can't be bothered

My hair needs washing at day 5. I'd go up to day 3. 4 is a bit of a gamble. My hair washing revolves around sweaty exercise.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 15/04/2021 09:06

I don't. Especially as others have said if I'm paying for a wash and blow dry there's no point.

Also, I wash my hair when I get home after a hairdressers appointment to wash out the last shards of loose hair. Unless I've paid for a blow dry.

Usually I get a dry cut then I can wash my hair when I get home and style it the way I want to. The products that the hairdresser uses are very nice but I don't want to smell like a hairdressing salon !

ToffeeNotCoffee · 15/04/2021 09:10

That's to say, I don't wash my hair before going to the hairdressers. No point.

I wash mine daily so not been in this situation
But I'd wash it if the last time had been Monday ...going with one days worth of u washed hair I could manage but not three/ four days

LadyDangerfield · 15/04/2021 09:12

If its terribly greasy, I'd wash it the day before the hair appointment. Washing it twice in one day will turn my hair into straw.

LolaSmiles · 15/04/2021 09:17

I wash mine twice a week and my colour takes better when it's not freshly washed. In the week running up to my hair appointment, I move my washing days so that when I go to the hairdressers I have day old or 2 day old hair.

BiddyPop · 15/04/2021 09:20

When I used to go to a salon, I always went with unwashed hair - it's part of the experience to get it really well washed and the head massage part, so I always felt I should let them do their job fully.

Now, the hairdresser comes to me, and it works out easiest for me to have a quick shower and wash it shortly before he's due (he will wash if we're doing colour - but it's awkward how our bath and shower are set up so he can't do the same kind of deep clean massaging wash, hence it's generally easiest for me to do it beforehand altogether rather than be left with a flooded floor).

I think, if I was lucky enough to get a salon appointment once they reopen, I would wash myself at home in the morning, have it dry going in so they see the real state of it, but it only needs misting with a spray bottle or a quick rinse depending on how they prefer to do it, but limiting my time indoors by not needing full wash.

(In reality, my own stylist knows it well and as a long and loyal client, he will fit me in relatively quickly - so I will photograph it in the morning to show the state and wash shortly before he's due, I think).

Announcement last night that salons might be allowed reopen before the end of April - TG!!

EasterEggBelly · 15/04/2021 09:21

@BobbuhT

Covid infested hair 😂
This made me laugh too.

I would never wash it the day of an appointment. The first thing they do is wash it!

I mean in all honesty if a hairdresser is asking everyone to wash their hair because of covid, then I’d probably go somewhere else. How on earth do they check? And what do they do if they don’t believe you? Mind boggles.

CoffeeWithCheese · 15/04/2021 09:23

The amount of bleach on my hair nothing would bloody survive anyway!

Hallyup5 · 15/04/2021 09:24

I'm paying them to wash it so it'd be a waste of both my time and money to do it myself.

SmileyClare · 15/04/2021 09:33

Well hindsight is a wonderful thing Op but I agree with this poster. You should have planned it better, maybe next time wash it a day or so before?

You're having colour on your roots which I imagine is quite a big job after lockdown. And you say it looks greasy on the roots? I think it's a bit off to make your hairdresser spend a long time working with hair that's a bit greasy and unclean from old skin cells and sweat.

Sorry, but I think it would only be ok if you were getting it washed immediately in the salon.

Oh well, it's not the end of the world and your hairdresser will have a mask on if your hair's a bit whiffy Grin

QuimReaper · 15/04/2021 09:37

I hate and despise going to the hairdresser for many of the reasons outlined on this thread. Firstly, my hair is thin, fine, flat feathers and I appear to be the only human on earth who can style it so it looks good (fair enough, I have the most experience), but I utterly resent using my heated rollers to make it look lovely only to go and have it washed out again. As other posters have said, I've found that unless you make the effort to walk in looking fully-styled, they don't bother, which drives me insane.

Secondly, I've come to accept that I cannot have my hair cut if I have anything to do afterwards, because it still tends to look shit even if they do make the effort. The last hairdresser I went to offered to curl it with GHDs for me, and then said it would be £10 extra! WHAT FOR? I would love to be able to go to the hairdresser as a treat and then swan out to dinner or something, but I have to go straight home. It all feels so futile.

So with these combined, my method now is to either get an irritating local woman to come and cut it all over the kitchen floor just to get rid of the loose ends, or - now that she's abandoned me - use Treatwell to find a local basic cut going for pittance, turn up looking shit, walk out looking like shit, go home, and try not to think about it. Inevitably this means my hair's been an all-one-length trim job for years now.

I so long for the hairdresser experience everyone else seems to have, but I've concluded my hideous hair isn't worth it and possibly it's a myth in the first place.

ineedaholidayandwine · 15/04/2021 09:39

I do as i have bleach and they recommend not having a clean head as there would be no oils to reduce irritation.

emmathedilemma · 15/04/2021 09:53

No, they wash it for you! It doesn't need doing twice in one day. I've gone with post-run hair before now because i'm not going to wash it and have them wash it an hour later.

Lalliella · 15/04/2021 09:54

If it’s yucky to touch then I’d wash it but otherwise not bother. My mum washes and styles her hair before she goes to the hairdresser and cleans her apartment before her cleaner arrives. Don’t be my mum!

Silverfly · 15/04/2021 09:56

I wash my hair once a week and I wouldn't do a special wash if I was going to the hairdresser.

Crimeismymiddlename · 15/04/2021 09:57

Yes absolutely, just out of politeness.

FunnyWonder · 15/04/2021 10:03

Unless I'm having a dry trim, I don't bother. Would you wash your car before taking it to a car wash ... to be washed?

eaglejulesk · 15/04/2021 10:10

Why would you - they wash it anyway.

WrongKindOfFace · 15/04/2021 10:23

@Gigia

Since COVID my hairdresser has asked everyone to wash their hair before coming to minimise risk.
Even for a morning colour appointment? That’s crackers. Plus I don’t see how washing your hair is going to reduce the spread.
WrongKindOfFace · 15/04/2021 10:24

Mine would usually be washed the day before. But possibly in the morning if I had a late afternoon appointment.

JustSleepAlready · 15/04/2021 10:37

If hairdresser going to wash it don’t bother now. If not, then yes, wash your hair. That’s like going to dentist with manky teeth. Yeuch.

Beautiful3 · 15/04/2021 10:39

My hairdresser told me not to wash it before coming in, as the dye takes longer to take.

ChrissyPlummer · 15/04/2021 10:45

No, I’m having mine bleached and you shouldn’t wash just before bleaching.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 15/04/2021 10:54

Due to the Covid rules, I was told I needed to go with newly washed hair( day before)
