What a week 😭tragic

OP posts:

@Bagamoyo1

What breaks my heart is that the amount of public money that will be spent on a lavish send off for a 99 year old royal would probably have saved Nikki and many like her. Sorry to make it political but cases like this always make me reflect on the priorities of spending.
Don’t be ridiculous. He’s having a small funeral with 30 people. It’s awfully tragic about Nicky, but off loading your upset on someone else is not good.

@TheGumption

Oh gosh aren't you so superior, not knowing who she is 🙄 I feel so sad for her and her family. I know she struggled with this for so, so long. It's desperately sad that treatment never worked long term for her.
This pisses me off too. There's such snobbery around reality TV viewing. Like you're some kind of thick chav who probably can't spell your own name properly if you watch Love Island, Big Brother, X Factor etc...

DH and I went to a party at someone's house back in 2013/14-ish, and a couple (an ex colleague of the man who invited us, and his wife,) decided to come sit next to us. DH said 'good party, nice food. Me and Patti will take off around eleven, and go watch the final of Big Brother that we're recording... do you watch it?' SHE said, 'Oh my God, hell no! We have taste, and class, and a brain bigger than a grape!'

I just grabbed DH's arm, turned my back on the two of them, and walked off pulling DH along with me...

Horrible stuck-up arseholes. Hmm

And yeah, people saying 'I never heard of her' on a thread posted to show respect to her, are the same as those 2 people at that party ^

Really has been an awful week. This young woman, a handsome Prince Philip and beautiful baby azilia cain is now loosing her battle, I dread to see the news

JustJustWhy · 10/04/2021 19:25

@sonofbobandflo

Don't look at the crowdfunder page, I've been told the photo is awful. Poor woman to have died like that and to have her photo posted online.
The photos were published with her permission on the GofundMe page.
EmeraldShamrock · 10/04/2021 19:26

Social media has a lot to answer for. It makes me so angry.
It is wrong to blame SM. If SM alone was the reason everyone would be slim.
Aneroxia is a serious MH issue I'm involved in a support group the majority of girls don't care for social media.
It is a form of self harm and usually flows after a previous MH episode or trauma.

YouAintKingDingALing · 10/04/2021 19:28

So so sad. Her poor mum and sister.

Exhausteddog · 10/04/2021 19:28

This is unbelievably sad.
I'm really sorry for your loss @LittleDorittFlowers

Both myself and my Dsis had anorexia and the nhs provision varied wildly between our treatments. My Dsis asked for help with it when she was at university and the person she spoke to didnt believe her. She ended up having to take a year out and suffered for the next 10-15 years but thankfully recovered.

They really shouldn't have printed them aneroxia is a competitive sport plus a risk they'll be used for jokes.

wheresmymojo · 10/04/2021 19:32

RIP

The photos of her in the last month are shocking and very, very sad.

Taken far too young Sad

Anon778833 · 10/04/2021 19:32

I read her autobiography quite some time ago and she was a very severely unwell anorexic from the age of 7. Her doctor said she had by far the most severe case he’d ever seen. She basically grew up in hospitals and clinics like Rhodes Farm and was unable to work for long in any job. She was very open in her autobiography about everything including that the only way her medical carers could get her to gain weight was to tube feed her under sedation.

It’s incredibly sad but she has never really been well and people laughing at her on Big Brother should have known it was obvious she had severe mental health illness.

RIP

KeyboardWorriers · 10/04/2021 19:32

I agree with@EmeraldShamrock please dont reduce anorexia to something that can be caused by trivia like social media. It has far deeper roots than that, often caused by an awful trauma (or repeated trauma) and there is also thought to be a genetic element that makes some people more susceptible.

There have been anorexics since the beginning of history (I know, I read a lot about it as my way of "self healing"). Long before social media or even "the media" existed.

itsgettingwierd · 10/04/2021 19:34

@AbsentmindedWoman

Eating disorders are fucking ruthless.

Does anyone know, did Nikki ever have a period of respite from it at all during her life? I see on this thread she had written books about her struggle - at that point, was she hopeful she was in recovery?

I say this as someone in recovery myself for many years, very thankful, but always aware of how lucky I am - there but for the grace of God go I.

I watched a documentary she did maybe 5 ish years ago?

She said she had periods where she was in control but it was so exhausting it often lead to relapses. She was such a sad character in it. (I have paraphrased what she said)

This is truly awful Sad
Anon778833 · 10/04/2021 19:36

There is no way her anorexia was caused by social media or going on BB. She lived more of her life as a child in hospitals than she did at home. Sad

R3dFish · 10/04/2021 19:36

Simply not true it’s caused by trauma. It’s caused by a variety of things. A quarter of suffers are autistic.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 10/04/2021 19:39

@LittleDoritt
i am so sorry for your loss Thanks

itsgettingwierd · 10/04/2021 19:39

And yes to the photos.

You can't help but tear up looking at them. That poor poor woman. She must have been suffering horrendously. She must have been in immense pain.

May she now rest in peace.

ConnieCaterpillar70 · 10/04/2021 19:40

She should never have been allowed on BB. She was far too fragile. Her family and friends must be absolutely devastated, especially after such a brief surge of hope after the fundraising.

It's such a devastating illness. Rest in peace, Nikki Flowers

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 10/04/2021 19:40

So very sad, her poor family RIP Nikki Flowers

The PP said 'often caused by trauma' not 'always caused by trauma'.

DaisyDreaming · 10/04/2021 19:41

@AbsentmindedWoman I was under the impression she was never fully in recovery at any point. She certainly had better times but everything I’ve seen indicated it was a constant battle and exercise was her main way to cope and she had to conclusively exercise to let herself eat

DaisyDreaming · 10/04/2021 19:42

*compulsively

(Nb I didn’t know her but from everything that was said over the years and her book that’s the impression I got)

TroysMammy · 10/04/2021 19:42

That's sad. My Dad used to find her highly amusing when she was on tv shows other than Big Brother her squealing at things gave him the hysterics.

DaisyDreaming · 10/04/2021 19:43

@AbsentmindedWoman I hope your recovery is life long Daffodil
