Yes, that much I understand - of course. I’m just wondering about the mechanics of the last couple of days of her life. Would the private clinic have decided she was too ill for them to treat and sent her home? Knowing she would probably die soon? Apologies if this is mawkish, I’m just interested in the process.

Sarahtrue11 · 11/04/2021 14:10

@nolongersurprised

Excuse my ignorance, but I’m struggling to understand how she could have died a day after being discharged from the hospital.

A life of anorexia ravages your body. The heart loses muscle and the conductive pathways can be damaged. If the metabolic rate is slowed because of starvation the heart rate slows too.

Excuse my ignorance as well, but I thought that they were not allowed to discharge anorexia patients until they met a minimum weight.

Just from my brief knowledge of my cousin's friend who had Anorexia. She had to meet a minimum weight before she was discharged, every time.

I presume that health services were more difficult to access during Covid too.

GabsAlot · 11/04/2021 14:11

she had anorexia from a child nothing to do with sm-also she was in hospital several times and had treatment but it never worked for her

I do agree that vetting for tv realit shows are poor and she should never have been on yet she went on the canadian version and ultimate bb aswell

Cactus1982 · 11/04/2021 14:14

Apparently Nikki was so frail that she’d fallen and broken her pelvis in two places and broken her wrist fairly recently. I’m sure she’d said in an interview that she had osteoporosis because she never went through puberty.

Watchingthetelly · 11/04/2021 15:18

Just watched Pete’s video and now I’m in floods of tears. It seems so silly when I didn’t personally know the woman but she was just such fun and so endearing - it felt like I’d spent a summer with her when I was a BB fan watching. Desperately sad.

Iveforgotten · 11/04/2021 20:21

I really am very sad about this. I think the most sad I’ve been for a ‘celebrity’.

Anon778833 · 11/04/2021 20:25

I agree, @Iveforgotten. It’s the same for me. Despite all her problems, I think Nikki was a kind hearted person and had a lot to offer the world.

nannybeach · 11/04/2021 22:05

OneofPansPeople, if you bothered to pay attention, it was to do with her catchphrase!!!!!A lot of people put "Who is she"

Pot kettle springs to mind- if you bothered to pay attention you’d know her name is Nikki Grahame not “Nicky Graham“.
midsomermurderess · 11/04/2021 22:35

Good grief.

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 11/04/2021 22:48

I think that fact that she was still so close to some of her fellow BB contestants from absolutely years ago (she was often pictured with Imogen Thomas as well) says a lot. She was clearly very loved.

nolongersurprised · 11/04/2021 23:09

Short term weight gain won’t negate the effects of organ damage from a life of starvation though. Without knowing what Nikki’s decisions were about treatment, it’s entirely feasible that she seemed relatively healthy, and then her heart stopped. It’s an illness with a high mortality.

The “not allowed” to discharge until a particular weight gain is a medical decision, not a legal one. It has to be presented as non-negotiable though.

Iveforgotten · 11/04/2021 23:09

I feel so sorry for her poor mum who she admits being utterly vile to (although that was the illness). How heartbreaking to watch your daughter do that to herself and to have to take all the abuse from her, trying to help her and still wanting a relationship with her...It doesn’t bear thinking about. Sad

Adarajames · 11/04/2021 23:11

Who is she?

kittensarecute · 11/04/2021 23:51

Poor woman, so sad and unfair. Rest in peace x

Chanel05 · 12/04/2021 07:16

So very, very sad. I have thought a lot about her this weekend and hope she is at peace. I had seen the pictures of her online, yet was still shocked to read that she had passed away.

I saw her about 11 years ago in a small book shop in London and was internally alarmed at how thin she was.

I feel that she has been exploited at times for her mental health issues. Only 3/4 years ago she appeared on a show called "In Therapy", yet this was a one off show for her, with maybe a handful of visits to a therapist. This was never designed to give any support, particularly when she clearly needed very extensive therapy, but simply was recorded to give viewers something to watch. I did watch it and only now do I realise that I shouldn't have. Yes, she would have been paid for it, of course, but this show was certainly not therapy. It can't have helped her in any way and I don't think that any amount of money would have saved her, when her eating disorder was so deep rooted, with relapse after relapse.

Rest in peace Nikki.

Tootshoots · 12/04/2021 15:40

Did anyone think it was odd that there was no mention of her on this morning? Given that her mum did an interview a couple of weeks ago on this morning about her declining health. One of the guests ( I cant remember his name) very briefly mentioned her and Dermot very briefly mentioned her in a short health segment with a doctor. But they really didn't talk about her at all, no condolences nothing. Dermot was a BB presenter and Alison a contestant. Very strange!

SheldonesqueHasGotTheWeevils · 12/04/2021 16:11

Because with the best will in the world, they are not journalists and are better at fluff and filler than they are at serious subjects.

It isn’t a subject that you can guffaw or giggle over.

If Ruth and Eamonn had been there today it would have been mentioned and handled with sensitivity.

But you didn't put Who is she???!!!, who is she !!!??? etc which would have meant we knew you were quoting her catchphrase

Who is Nicky (sic) Grahame wasn't her catchphrase, I'm sure you can see why we everyone misunderstood you

Well I didn't know her well enough to be familiar with her catchphrases. If you bothered to be a little more thoughtful you'd have realised that you misquoting her catchphrase was likely to be felt by some to be in poor taste. But knock yourself out with your excessive exclamation marks and tone deaf post.

Maybe. It's still very odd though. They could have said something! They spent enough time talking about the Duke of Edinburgh.
SheldonesqueHasGotTheWeevils · 12/04/2021 18:35

It is strange. No denying it.

Maybe it was too close to home. I don’t know. Sad

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🙄🙄

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 12/04/2021 21:40

I agree it is very strange if they didn't do a piece on Nikki on This Morning? Especially, as PP said, with all the links with the show (Dermot, Alison, her mum's appearance).

Maybe it was too upsetting for them, but that doesn't usually stop them covering stuff, they have done lots of things that have been close to home before.
